The picture postcard which Mr Justice Manton casts a disapproving eye over shows a woman making a deposit at a bank. The caption says: "I Like to have something behind me, Mr Jones". To which Mr Jones responds "Aye I can see that, lass". The postcard, along with thousands of others was designed by Donald McGill. These so-called "saucy" postcards were mainly sold at seaside resorts and were very popular with peak sales of 16 million cards in one year.
