Expanding SNL characters past their initial 5-10 minute lifespans is always a risky endeavor. Some of these characters prove particularly malleable and successful in a longer format - such as Blues Brothers and Wayne's World - while most are awful trainwrecks like It's Pat! and Ladies Man. So I'm iffy about expanding the David S. Pumpkins sketch any longer than it already is. To be fair, his... Read More...

Will Arnett has a solution for the oft-reported division in America, and it starts with a woman playing the harmonica with a tarantula in her mouth. Yes, really.
The 47-year-old actor serves as executive producer and judge on ABC's The Gong Show, a revival of the beautifully bizarre amateur talent competition, which ran originally in the late 1970s with host Chuck Barris.

The Frankenstein Chronicles is a neatly stitched drama with a compelling, sympathetic lead in Sean Bean's John Marlott...

1.3 All The Lost Children
“What would we not do to defeat death, Mr Marlott? Might we not defy God’s laws in order to be reunited with those we love?” asks The Frankenstein Chronicles’ Mary Shelley this week, under some gentle interrogation regarding the murdered, mutilated and missing children in the capital. At this stage in his investigation, Marlott has an intriguing list of leads, taking in literary legends like Shelley – still a controversial figure in the nineteenth century, having been accused of blasphemy in the creation of Frankenstein (there’s thanks for you) – and lowly grave robbers like Pritty, still on the run after escaping the watch of deputy Mr Nightingale last week.

The West Wing “Pilot”
Written by Aaron Sorkin
Directed by Thomas Schlamme
Originally aired September 22nd 1999 on NBC
It’s hard to argue that The West Wing isn’t Aaron Sorkin’s most successful television show. It ran for eight seasons (five more than his second longest series), outlasting even Sorkin himself (who left after the fourth season), on network TV at a time when the bar for ratings success was much higher than it is now. It racked up 26 Emmy wins in that time, including four consecutive Outstanding Drama Series awards from 2000-2003. And it arguably represents the last great drama of the pre-Sopranos era (even though it ran concurrently with The Sopranos for most of its run). Most importantly, in terms of its success, its setting proved the perfect vehicle for Sorkin’s writing. He consistently fills his shows with smart people, extremely dedicated to their jobs, who...

The grey clouds and rain didn't stop people from having a good time this afternoon at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. And I'm not just talking about what you saw during the telecast on IFC. The cameras couldn't capture everything. So with that, here are five things you didn't see on TV… 1. Ladies Man: Brad Pitt was the ultimate gentleman. When 12 Years a Slave was named best feature, he blew a kiss to Lupita Nyong'o on his way up to the stage to accept the award with his fellow producers. When he made his way backstage, he didn't take off to do some press until Angelina Jolie assured him, "It's Ok, baby. Go ahead. I'm Ok here." He later grabbed onto her when...

The Warner Archive Collection has finally released the elusive Liberace feature ‘Sincerely Yours’. Originally released to theaters in 1955, this film is a curio of the times, the studio system and most importantly a snapshot, (in color no less; more on that later) of the early stages of the musician’s career.
To be fair to the movie, we need to turn our mental clocks back to the mid- 50s (so lines such as ‘They’ll love him in San Francisco’ wouldn’t bring immediate chuckles). That upstart- television- had been keeping audiences away from theaters in droves. Things on Jeopardy! got a little steamy last night thanks to the first-round category "The Sexiest Potpourri Ever." They weren't kidding: All the answers had a sultry edge; Alex read each of them in a seductive (well, more seductive than usual) voice; and a soft-core porno soundtrack jazzily accompanied each clue, giving everything a vague "Ladies Man" vibe. The only thing missing is some kind of "let's make it a true Daily Double" pickup line. (A Daily Double entendre? Har, har.) Don't let anyone tell you Jeopardy! isn't hilarious.

Phoebe Price is very well known in certain circles, just not the circles she wants to be known in.
The D-list 'celebrity' who once appeared in an episode of The X-Files as 'Marie - Customer with Car' has been trying to make it big in Hollywood for years and has never quite got there as yet - but that's certainly not going to dampen her spirits.
Ms Price is very popular with photographers around the world and loves to slip into her bikini
Ms Price was born in Alabama in 1972 and always had a passion for modelling but her main goal was to be become an actor. It seems that the overly-photographed actress is available at every opportunity and is just about willing to pull any stunt on the red carpet to get noticed.

The latest MTV original movie takes on a topic many of us are far too familiar with. In "Ladies Man: A Made Movie," Toby wants to become a "stud" and convince all of the girls that he's friends with to see him in a different light (i.e. not as their gay best friend).
To do that, Toby decides to get a "Made"-style makeover and enter the Mr. Olympus pageant, but will he ever figure out that all he has to do is be himself to get the girl? Probably. But it'll will be fun watching him get there.
"Ladies Man: A Made Movie" will premiere on Tuesday, April 9 at 9 p.m. Et/8 p.m. Ct. In the mean time, check out the movie's Facebook page and watch the "Ladies Man Guidebook" after the jump!

Ladies man Harry Styles reportedly doesn't want to lock down his relationship with Taylor Swift. Uh oh. Harry Styles and Taylor Swift have been spending quite a bit of time together lately, but the One Direction pop star isn't ready to fully commit to the country cutie. "Taylor and Harry have been quietly seeing each other again," an insider told Radar Online. "When Taylor dates someone, she jumps in full force, but Harry is being a little more cautious this time around." The two musicians briefly dated last April, but split when Taylor discovered photos of Harry kissing American model Emma Ostilly. "Taylor really liked Harry and even though they weren't exclusive, he hinted at making it official with her just before he took off to Australia… [one morning ] Taylor had all these texts from Harry begging for a chance to explain and telling her not to believe everything she reads," the source said.

Earlier this month, TV Fanatic sent intrepid reporter Sean McKenna to the Atlanta set of Necessary Roughness. What did he discover there?
A few season two scoops from producer Kevin Dowling and, below, an interview with Tk himself, Mehcad Brooks. Read on to learn what it's like for the actor to play such a playful and dark character...

Cocky. Ladies Man. Super Star.
These are just a few of the words to describe Necessary Roughness' football champ, Terence "Tk" King, but the actor behind the confident swagger is certainly more modest and humble when it comes to discussing his work.
Mehcad Brooks sat down and chatted about his character's journey for season two and getting the chance to explore a more dramatic take in addition to Tk's usual no care antics.
"Tk and I are really different. Like he, he’s not even a dude I would hang out with.

Top Ten TV to Film Adaptations This weekend 21 Jump Street scored the top spot at the weekend box-office and Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall are busy preparing a sequel and after posting my review someone on Twitter told me one of the reasons they liked it was because it was a huge improvement compared to most TV-to-film adaptations. While I enjoyed it, I wasn't as excited over it as some people seem to be and I never even thought to compare it to other TV-to-film adaptations, especially considering a film needs to stand on its own, whether it's simply better than other films that tried to make the leap from the small screen to the silver screen is irrelevant. But it did get me to thinking... what are the best TV-to-film adaptations? So I started the process of compiling a list and while 21 Jump Street is a good flick, it...

Psych entered a mental hospital this week... to hilarious results.
As usual, the USA hit has given our Round Table panel plenty to analyze, as Chandel, Priscilla, Alexis and Beth all do below. Pull up a figurative chair and join them, won't you?
-------------------------------------------
What was your favorite moment and/or quote from the episode?
Chandel: Probably seeing Shawn asleep in the mental institution, holding that bear. It was pretty cute and he looked so peaceful!
Priscilla: My favorite quote is what Shawn said while he was driving the medicine cart. I choked on my dinner when I heard him say he was "the ice cream man except with barbiturates!" Can Psych-Outs be the favorite moment? Tim Omundson scaring Dule was definitely a golden moment, but my favorite from the episode has to be the scene at Molly's house. I loved how creepy Gus was getting his groove on to Kenny G's "Songbird.

Ladies man Gerard Butler may have laid eyes on Ashley Greene. Less than a week after being seen riding on a Harley Davidson motorcycle with Jessica Biel, the Milo Boyd of "The Bounty Hunter" was hit with report suggesting that he got flirty with the former girlfriend of Joe Jonas.
According to New York Daily News' Gatecrasher, 41-year-old Gerard was spotted "chatting, flirting and laughing" with 24-year-old Ashley at the after-party of 2011 Cfda Fashion Awards on Monday night, June 6. It was further noted that the actress famed as Alice Cullen in the "Twilight Saga" series seemed amused by the actor.
Gerard reportedly came solo to the bash. When he wasn't talking to Ashley, Katherine Heigl's co-star in "The Ugly Truth" was seen enjoying Lady GaGa's performance. Words are, he stood near the front of the crowd and was singing along as the eccentric singer delivered her hit single,...

There are nights where the Idoldome feels like a bundle of nerves, as determined by the state of the wary contestants, so much so that the entire audience, by sheer proximity, feels jittery, too. And then there are nights that are completely the opposite, where the studio positively bubbles over with effervescence and confidence. Last night was blissfully the later, as the Idoldome brimmed with the power of the warblers — singing their favorite “Songs from the Movies,” led by Paul McDonald’s upbeat “Old Time Rock and Roll” (pictured here) — on the warpath toward becoming the next American Idol. Who can say what it was?...

Y'all want this party started, right? Y'all want this party started quickly, right?
Okay, just checking. That was rhetorical; we know you guys love your parties. So get your dancing pants on: Deadline is reporting "SNL" producer Lorne Michaels is about to cast Kenan Thompson in a new flick called "Party Starters."
And here you thought Michaels could never match "Night at the Roxbury."
So just what is "Party Starters" about? According to Deadline, it's "an original high-concept comedy set up at Paramount Pictures about that sort of entertainer guy who gets the old people up to dance at weddings and keeps the party rolling." Sure, why not.
Of course, we understand if you're not totally jazzed about this project just yet. After all, when it comes to putting "SNL" stars into feature films, Michaels hasn't exactly been Scorsese; films like "MacGruber," "Ladies Man," "I'm Pat," "Stuart Saves his Family" and.

Michelle Williams cozied up to her My Week With Marilyn costar Dominic Cooper last night at a London party for her film Blue Valentine. The duo have been shooting together for the last month, even enjoying a brief cameo from Emma Watson. Ladies man Dominic, though, has had enough time off to make the party rounds and hang out with January Jones. Michelle and Dominic mingled with producer Harvey Weinstein, whose company is behind both the Marilyn Monroe project and the movie they were celebrating yesterday. Harvey, Michelle, and Ryan Gosling are all united in their frustration at Blue Valentine's Nc-17 rating, and they're apparently getting a legal team together to battle the label they think is unfair. Michelle, who's looking good with Ryan in their new poster, is also said to be worried that the Nc-17 association will diminish their chances at the Oscars next year. View 2 Photos...

I’m sure by now, everyone has seen the movie Animal House, or the hundreds of movies it spawned, like American Pie. Well, have you ever thought ‘gee, that would make a sweet show, but they should do it in the ‘80s, when everything was cooler?’ Well, if you did, then you should check out Glory Daze on TBS, starting Tuesday, the 17th, at 8 pm.
The show starts off introducing a few freshman to the campus, which fit the archetypes perfectly. We have the Asian, the jock, the geek and the guy trying to get laid. After a really funny scene with Brad Garrett as a parent, we get a scene to establish we are still in school with a hilarious professor played by Tim Meadows (SNL, Ladies Man). Big Brother’s Mario Mugan has admitted that he regularly attends sex parties on the outside world.
Despite claiming that he has only slept with seven men and two women, Mario admitted that he liked to attend both gay and straight orgies.
He told The Sun: “I’ve been to both kinds of sex parties, people don’t even care.”
John James looked shocked by the revelation and asked for more details on the events. Ladies man Jj Bird filled him in saying:
“It’s like a gang bang basically John, everyone has sex with everyone else.”
Mario went on to claim that while he attends the parties, he never participates. We don’t think we believe him….do you?

Australian singer reportedly revising script for new version of the 1994 cult horror film
He was named one of Variety's 10 most promising screenwriters in 2006, but since then it has all gone rather quiet on the film front for Nick Cave. This could change after a report by The Wrap that the Australian musician is penning a forthcoming remake of The Crow, the cult comic-book adaptation from 1994.
The new version is being directed by Blade's Stephen Norrington, who appears to be back on the Hollywood rollercoaster after declaring a few years ago that he would never direct again. That statement was said to be a result of his experience working on the poorly received The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with a difficult Sean Connery.
Norrington wrote the screenplay for the remake of The Crow, but Cave is apparently revising it. The new version is said to be closer in spirit to...

HollywoodNews.com: By Kelcey Bridges: Lets face it, teen idols grown up. One minute they’re singing “Lets Get Together” in “The Parent Trap” – and the next, they’re inmate #2409752. Well, maybe that’s just Lindsay Lohan. Either way, they don’t stay young forever. Just ask Kirk Cameron, Corey Feldman and Drew Barrymore. In 2010, we have quite a few teen stars of our own – but where will they wind up in 10 years?
Justin Bieber
For now: He’s the latest teen sensation sweeping the nation. However, soon his voice will change and he won’t stay 16 forever. Will the “Bieber fever” die out?
In 10 years: Biebs will be in his mid 20’s – 26 to be exact – and I have a feeling much of his popularity will follow him into adulthood, along with his swagger. However, that all depends on how well he can grow and evolve along with his fan base.

Title Weekend Total Analysis The Karate Kid $56.M $56.M Biggest summer opening for non-superhero/non-ogre movie paves way for even more '80s remakes. The A-Team $26.M $26.M Loads of negative buzz put a damper on B-movie's opening weekend. Shrek Forever After $15.8M $210.1M 3-week winning streak snapped, though now it's officially a mega-blockbuster (+$200M). Killers $8.2M $30.7M Critically savaged Kutcher-Heigl action-comedy somehow stays in Top 5 in its 2nd week.
Bomb of the Week: One word: MacGruber. With about a $4M take, it earned less in its first weekend than the latest SNL movie, 2000's Ladies Man. Our team of interns is investigating, but a mere $1,607/screen average for a wide release's opening weekend has to be the worst of 2010.

You knew that the blood was on the floor the moment the critics, like Lisa, took out the long knives and began to slash away. Yet even given the worst. dumb. movie. ever. spitballs that were hurled at it, the box office returns for MacGruber had to be scary, and a bit of a shock, even for those who avidly follow the genre it belongs to: the bad Saturday Night Live movie. Now, I’m tempted to say that “bad Saturday Night Live movie” is a perfectly redundant phrase. I mean, just let your mind drift back over all the Lorne Michaels-mentored,...

I feel a little bad for all of those people, which is probably the majority of you, who don't watch "Lost," have never watched "Lost," and never care to watch "Lost." Poor bastards. It's been a rough week. It's like Super Bowl week for those who hate football. The good news, at least, is that no one has paid any attention to the "American Idol" finale this year. Small blessings, I suppose. One more day, and we'll all shut up about it.
Anyway, I'm dedicating this weekend's box-office report to all of you who have had to suffer through the last week and, to a lesser extent, the last six years. On your behalf I say: Fuck the Losties. Shut up about that goddamn show already (for the rest of you, both Seth and Dan have reviews of the finale up.)

Just like with The Simpsons, there’s a line dividing audiences when it comes to Saturday Night Live. Is it still funny? Are its glory days behind it? Or has the show finally come into its own? Still others think it’s never been funny. Whatever your opinion, the movies that have stemmed from SNL are just as mixed. The Coneheads, Wayne’s World, its sequel, A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, Ladies Man, It’s Pat, The Blues Brothers (and its god awful sequel), and now MacGruber are part of a dubious history of filmmaking. While often critically panned (since The Blues Brothers and Wayne’s World, no SNL film has reached above a 60% at RottenTomatoes), their box office performances are even worse. It certainly lends some credibility to the idea that SNL’s best days are far behind it. So what of MacGruber? Does it fit within the...

This weekend, the fourth and presumably final Shrek lumbers into 4,359 theaters, surpassing Shrek 2 as the broadest release ever for an animated movie. Included in that sum are 2,373 3D sites, topping Alice in Wonderland (2010) as the biggest release yet for the format. Also opening is Saturday Night Live-based action comedy MacGruber at 2,551 theaters. Shrek is one of the few franchises to gross over $1 billion, and it did it with only three movies. Shrek Forever After follows the series' pattern of opening on the weekend before Memorial Day and arriving three years after the last movie. Whether it continues the series' tradition of breaking the animation opening weekend record with each release is another matter, but it will have an uphill battle following audiences' mixed reaction to Shrek the Third and Box Office Mojo reader polling that indicates far less interest than Shrek the Third had. MacGruber (*1/2 out of 4)
If Pixar and its animated output is Hollywood’s safest bet, then full-length features derived from brief “Saturday Night Live” skits have to be the industry’s riskiest gamble. It’s possible you’ll end up with a “Blues Brothers” or a “Wayne’s World,” comedies that extend their single-joke premise and expand the universe for their potentially amusing characters. But more often than not, you’re destined for an unimaginative dud like “The Ladies Man,” “It’s Pat,” “A Night at the Roxbury,” “Superstar” and, now, “MacGruber.” Why do studios continue to green light such projects? Russian roulette players have better survival rates.
The running gag in a “MacGruber” sketch is that the incompetent hero, played by Will Forte as a poor-man’s version of Richard Dean Anderson’s television adventurer MacGuyver, usually explodes right before he does something lewd or ridiculous.

Every week we look around and try to come up with ideas for Top 7 lists at The Scorecard Review. Some are easy to think of like Top 7 Superhero Sequel Seconds as a nod to Iron Man 2. Other times, we have to dig a little.
With MacGruber opening up on Friday, May 21 and me being a bit of a “Saturday Night Live” geek, I figured there couldn’t be a better time to whip up a “Top 7 SNL Movies of All Time.”
Complete MacGruber coverage including reviews and interviews
Now, when I say “bit” of a SNL geek. What I mean to say is, I haven’t missed an episode in probably a decade. If I had to place a bet on the matter, I would say the over/under on episodes missed in the last 12 years would be three. And I would take the under. Don’t get me wrong,...

Let's play Rank the "Saturday Night Live" Movies!
We'll go first. "The Blues Brothers" did it first and, arguably, best. "Wayne's World" has got to be up there, and for some strange reason, we have a soft spot for "Coneheads." At the other end of our highly subjective spectrum, we've got "It's Pat," "The Ladies Man" and "Blues Brothers 2000" duking it out for last place.
Where might Will Forte's "MacGruber" fall? The early buzz on this adaptation of a sketch about a wildly incompetent action hero is largely positive. Forte himself isn't bothered by the comparisons to "SNL" flicks past. If you ask him, the varying reception of those films is about on par with the way decades' worth of movies...
