a classic Nintendo game
malisteen23 July 2000
As classic platform games go, this title is really cream of the crop. It is loosely based on an old comic strip, which was also very good, and later inspired the movie "Little Nemo, Adventures in Slumberland," which was also very good. Original gameplay, surreal settings, and great graphics (for an NES game) make this one a real gem. Unfortunately, Like most classic NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) games it's a little hard to find nowadays, so if you see it somewhere be sure to grab it while you can.

Pure magic!!

This is a fantastic fantasy video game based loosely on a comic. The best thing about "Little Nemo" is the fun factor. This is a game that you won't ever get tired of. I can remember perfectly most of the magic stages and how mysterious and magic they were.

Nemo was a really likable character mainly because he's the same age as most of the players of the time. That's why the game is so great, because it travels the player to a new dimension where you can really feel you are Nemo!

Also, the music is extremely good, catchy, mysterious, nostalgic...

Do yourself a favor and quit the dust off your NES and "Little Nemo" cartridge. I regret for not having my NES on good conditions. If you have the chance, PLEASE live this dream adventure and give a good review about it. This game should be played by many future generations.

Dream Warrior

This game is another of my favorite video games of all time as wells as Licensed Games. This game Little Nemo was based on a comic strip series from yesteryear which in turn had a film adaptation in 1989 which was solid. This game is another great example of a Licensed Adaptation done right as of course it's by my favorite video game company Capcom whom have plenty under their belt.

The plotline is similar to the one in the film, where Nemo is your typical imaginative kid that goes into the Dreamscape, whether by his own making or not is up to you. But unfortunate the Nightmare King has escaped and it's up the Nemo to free the realm of dreams from the demon. Yeah, pretty basic but kind of cool as it's a fantasy plotline but this fantasy world is in the realm of dreams which we know anything can happen and anything to everything is possible.

The graphical presentation I thought was great, really liked the designs of the levels really have that feeling like your playing an animated cartoon but also just have that surreal quality of being in a world of dreams. Each of the levels are something different and just have surprises you would unexpect. The levels feel like a Lewis Carroll or Frank Barum fantasy come to life as they are all strange but beautiful at the same time, I don't want to give too much away as there things you have to see for yourself to believe. From the mushroom level which contains all kinds of oversized mushrooms but my favorite is Toy Land which is awesome as it's a moving level where your riding a toy train, I always love those moving levels just the constant speed and thrill on the go.

Character animation is also great as Nemo looks the same along with supporting characters like Flip and those cute loveable Forest Goblins who supply information in the game as well as help fill in on the ongoing story as you progress. Along with enemies who are unique and animated well like giant nasty snails, nasty giant worms, flying giant carpenter ants, and other creepy crawlers. Thought the one set of enemies that get under my skin are those floating skull floaters, those thing are so bothersome there like heatseekers as they slowly descend down they just always go wherever you are, like those damn birds on "Ninja Gaiden" also really bothersome.

The music in the game is excellent, this game has some of the most memorable tracks and some of them are my favorites. A couple of my favorite are the first and seventh level in my book, each of there are just sound so good in their own way it's almost hard to pick out favorites so their all worth listening too.

The gameplay is very good, the control is basic and responsive. This game really is a unique platformer in some ways. For one thing as Nemo your ineffective unless you can find certain animals and creatures in your journey, you have to first feed them Candy. Once they ingest enough of it, they take a siesta and then that's your chance to jump on them to metamorph and inherit their abilities. Each of the animals have their strengths and weaknesses, all have their uses in certain areas of the level. My favorite power the bee as you get to fly and shoot out singers, I just always like characters that fly. Really like the final boss battle against the Nightmare King whom like in the film looks scary as he looks like a giant bat, I thought was cool as you got to use the giant magic staff and just blow him away with it with light beams.

Other thing is in layout, this game isn't just the typical point A to B basic platformer. It still is but it has a nonlinear element which is similar to the game "The Goonies". Like in that game you have an exit but in order to use it you have a set of keys you have to find which are in different places of the level and it's up to you to find them. This makes the game unique because there really weren't that many platform action games like this at the time that caused you to take your time and explore, you can't expect to get anything done with haste. The game is slightly on the hard side but it's manageable, like in most games with a degree of difficulty their actually easy if you know where to go and what to do you can actually get through this game well.

What I also like about playing this game is in a way it has a timeless quality to it as it sort of has a two-way effect. Where when you play the game as a kid, it's fascinating and fun because this is the kind of world you imagine and dream about being in. But when you play the game as a teen and adult it has a throwback feel where you foundly remember being a kid and how surreal the world of dreams was when you were little but also just simply the joy of imagination as we've all continue to do it even as we get older.

This game is the stuff dreams are made of.
