Sex & Nudity

  • Ultimecia, the villain, wears a dress that exposes her cleavage.
  • A girl looks at a swimsuit magazine and makes a comment. She becomes intrigued.
  • In the Balamb school rules, one of the rules mentions the penalty for breaking the rule causing "Sexual harassment" and getting expelled from the military school.
  • One of the items is a magazine called "The Girl Next Door," in the descriptions indicates that it's an adult magazine.
  • A Guardian Force named Siren is seen with almost her almost exposed body as she casts her silence spell with her harp.
  • A character named Edea wears a dress that reveals minor cleavage.

Violence & Gore

  • Frequent moderate violence. Some blood and some science Fiction blood.
  • In the opening Squall duels with his gunblade with Seifer. Then Seifer knocks Squall down and cuts Squalls face causing blood to spill leaving Squall with a cut on his face, he then retaliates by cutting Seifers face.
  • In the turn based battles Squall can be seen attacking with his gun sword, Zell can be seen punching and kicking monsters, Quistis can be seen using her whip and blue magic, Selphie can be seen using her nun chucks, Rinoa can been seen using her boomerang weapon and Irvine can be seen shooting his rifle gun at monsters. Also magic spells and GF summons can used to kill monsters.
  • Fujin can be seen kicking Raijins ankle in the Balamb school cafeteria.
  • In the Balamb Port Town a little boy can be seen shoving a little girl down before running away.
  • A war scene with the soldiers getting attacked by the bombs in the town of Dollet can be seen as the SeeD army approaches Dollet in a submarine.
  • Some of the Dollet soldiers can be seen wounded.
  • If Squall didn't destroy the Spider robot on the Dollet bridge, then a cut scene can be seen with Squall trying to escape and jump in a submarine while Quistis shoots the Spider robot with the machine gun before getting blown up.
  • In the residential house of Timber a mother can be seen spanking her little boy on the butt and scolding him for trying to take money from strangers.
  • Seifer breaks into the Timber TV station room and kidnaps Vizner Deling, he holds him hostage and threatens him with the gunblade. Sorceress Edea convices Seifer to join her and he let's Vizner Deling go.
  • Squall is captured, restrained and tortured for information.
  • Warden kicks the Moomba in the stomach.
  • Zell gets kicked in the stomach by Warden the security guard. Later Warden gets attacked by Squalls Gunblade.
  • Squall gets ambushed by a Galbadian soldier in a flying mobile suit and after escaping in the emergency exit door, Squall and the soldier punch and kick each other until the soldier or Squall falls to their death.
  • In the mini game Laguna Loire can be seen fighting a real Ruby Dragon with his sword and the dragon bites back at him for the film he is acting in.
  • In the space ship a group of monster aliens called Propagators will lie dead on the ground if you kill them and will disappear if you kill them in pairs.
  • Some of the Esthar soldiers can be seen wounded in Esthar City.

Profanity

  • Swear words such as "Damn", "Damned", "Dammit", "Hell", Hellfire", "Ass", "Bitch", "Crap", "Crappy" and "Piss" are said sparingly. But none of it's spoken, since the entire game is subtitled.
  • Zell is well known for name calling and swearing in the game from time to time including calling Seifer a "Bastard.", "Frickin' Hell", "Fart" and the use of BS and other name calling names.
  • Laguna Loire climbs down the cliff and slips off and says "Oh Sh--" although he never finishes his sentence before falling in the ocean.
  • One of the Minotaur Brothers at the Labyrinth uses the word Bastard.
  • During the riot at Balamb Garden, if Squall chooses not to help out the students, then they will escape and the staff member will call them a "Slippery Bastard."
  • Cid Kramer in Balamb Garden swears at Master NORG and calls him a "Greedy Son of a bitch."
  • Master NORG calls Squall and his team a "Bastard"
  • One of the citizens in Deling City uses the word "Bastard."
  • Zone at the White SeeD ship also calls Squall "Son of a bitch."
  • One of the students at the Galbadia Garden uses the word "Bastard."

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • One of the GF and power items is called "Marlboro", this is named for the famous brand of cigarettes, and the power invoked by the player linked to the GF is called "Bad Breath", one of the symptoms related to smoking
  • Smoke from the cigarettes in the ashtray can be seen inside the Timber Maniacs office.
  • A drunken man can be seen at the Timber pub and another drunken man in the back alley.
  • Laguna Loire and Julia talk about drinking wine as they are talking in Deling Hotel bedroom.
  • In the Dollet bar, a man mentions that he hits the day with a cold drink. The bartender tells Squall that they're too young to drink.
  • Laguna Loire mentions in a timber maniacs magazine article that he gambled his money away in the city of Dollet.
  • A drunken man by the Fisherman Horizons Hotel talks about booze he made.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Deals with themes of abandonment, death, war, depression, and so on
  • Although Final Fantasy 8 has a cheerful atmosphere compared to Final Fantasy 6 and Final Fantasy 7 which was dark. There are however dark moments in the game involving war, violence and scary monsters.
  • Some of the monsters may be frightening.
  • The music in the game uses scary organ music at Edea's parade as she attacks Squall and also at Ultimecia castle and at the final boss fight.

Sex & Nudity

  • A guy and a girl share their first kiss as a couple during the ending.

Violence & Gore

  • The villain, Seifer, chains Squall to a wall and tortures him with electricity. It's definitely one of the darker scenes in the series and very frightening for younger children.
  • Sorceress Edea kills Vizner Deling by choking him to death and throwing him down.
  • Sorceress Edea causes the icicle to stab Squall in the chest and having him fall off the parade float unconscious.
  • A war scene between the Galbadian Garden and Balamb Garden can be seen with Galbadian Soldiers attacking the students on motorcycles and flying Mobile Suits.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • At the end of the game, there is a frame in which for a second, Squall can be seen with a pitch black hole through his head. This scene can be very disturbing for many people, including children.
  • At the missile base the Galbadian soldiers launches the the missiles at Trabia Garden. If Selphie fails to tamper with the missile accuracy on the computer, then a cutscene shows Balamb Garden getting destroyed by missiles and its game over.
  • A cutscene with Galbadian Missile Base getting blown up may be too scary for those sensitive to bombings.
  • The war between Galbadian Garden and Balamb Garden can be seen with Galbadian Soldiers attacking by motorcycles and flying mobile suits can be a little scary to watch.
  • The scene with Rinoa getting possessed by Sorceress Ultimecia can be disturbing for kids to watch.
  • The monsters at the Lunar Moon swarming down to Earth may scare kids.
