Weird and a lot of fun...

I liked this film, as it had a very, very weird sensibility--and it certainly isn't like any other cartoon I've seen in a very long time! FRANK THE WRABBIT is a film sponsored by The National Film Board of Canada, a government agency that gives grants to film makers. It begins by introducing Frank, a rabbit who is different--different because he's smarter than the other rabbits. His life is good until one day when the carrot patch he lives in is harvested. Incensed, Frank goes in search of who stole HIS carrots. This takes him to a market where the guy in charge chases Frank. To escape, Frank hides among the dead rabbits for sale. An unsuspecting family buys Frank for their dinner and when they get their "dead" rabbit home, he magically comes to life! There's much more to the story than this but I'll let you see it for yourself. The bottom line is that the story is extremely clever and made me laugh. While the animation quality wasn't great (it appears that they simply colored in the pencil sketches) but it works with this film because of its wacky style. Simple, perhaps...but very effective.

Overall, a cute and funny cartoon that's one that adults and children can enjoy. However, be forewarned that it now might have you think twice before you eat meat...especially rabbit, or shall I say 'wrabbit'?
