While many children of famous actors follow their parents into the profession, it is pretty rare that the child equals or surpasses the achievements of their parent. A few names come to mind: Jane Fonda, Michael Douglas, Angelina Jolie. And Jeff Bridges definitely belongs on that list.
His father was the highly successful actor Lloyd Bridges, who appeared in over 100 films and starred in multiple TV series including the popular “Sea Hunt.” Jeff’s brother is the Emmy Award-winning actor Beau Bridges.
Jeff’s career had an auspicious start when he earned an Oscar nomination at age 22 for his second film “The Last Picture Show.” Still regarded as a classic, the film featured an all-star cast of experienced performers and introduced a bunch of new young actors such as Cybill Shepherd, Timothy Bottoms, Sam Bottoms and Bridges.

Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky co-star Burt Young was as important and memorable to the franchise as Stallone himself. But the decisions Stallone made for Rocky V jeopardized his friendship with Young for quite some time.
Burt Young wouldn’t talk to Sylvester Stallone after the way his character was written in ‘Rocky V’ Sylvester Stallone and Burt Young | Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic
Rocky V has always been a sore spot for both Stallone and some of the franchise’s fans. Stallone’s iconic character ended up back where he started. Between losing all of his money, and the havoc boxing wreaked on his mind and body, Rocky moved back to Philadelphia. The film focused on how the sports star, who was now living a very modest life, was grooming the next generation of boxer.

“Poor Things” looks set to be a major Oscar contender this year. It just won the Golden Lion at Venice and Emma Stone just took over the top spot on our Best Actress Oscar odds chart. Supporting players Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo look set to match an Academy Award record.
“Poor Things” tell the tale of Stone as a young woman brought back to life by a scientist in the Victorian era. Dafoe plays the eccentric scientist, complete with a peculiar Scottish accent and killer prosthetic makeup design, while Ruffalo hams it up as the scientist’s lawyer, donning a hilarious English accent and turning up the camp to 10. Both performances are now being touted as strong Oscar contenders in the Best Supporting Actor category, which could see Dafoe and Ruffalo earn their fifth and fourth nominations respectively.
Dafoe was first nominated in 1987 for Best Supporting Actor for “Platoon.

It was a long time coming, but Sam Elliott finally earned his first Oscar nomination for “A Star Is Born” (2018). He contended as Best Supporting Actor for this musical drama about a failing rockstar (Bradley Cooper) who falls in love with a rising pop star (Lady Gaga), but can’t kick his drug and alcohol addiction despite the best efforts of his girlfriend and his older brother/manager (Elliott). Let’s take a look back at 15 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
In a career spanning 50 years, Elliott has received scant awards recognition for his film career. He has, however, contended at the Emmys for his work in “Buffalo Girls” (Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor in 1995) and “Robot Chicken” (Best Voice-Over Performer in 2013). He competed at the Golden Globes for “Buffalo Girls” and once more for “Conagher” (Best TV Movie/Mini Actor in 1992).

Actor. Producer. Golden Globe winner. From his boxing days as Rocky in Philadelphia to his current reign as Tulsa King, Sylvester Stallone has taken on countless titles. The one he’s clearly a champ at now is being a #girldad, which is probably why Stallone is so fired up to be sharing the screen (and more at-home time) with daughters Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet in The Family Stallone, a sweetly comical docu-soap. It’s not the action icon’s first time stepping into the reality TV ring — back in 2005, he cohosted Season 1 of The Contender, a boxing competition from Mark Burnett — but this one allows him to capture moments of the heart instead of punches to the gut. “I know what it’s like to live our private life, but I want to [preserve] it. I want to make a real, long memory of it,” says the Italian Stallion turned ol’ softy.

Since making his screen debut at age eight opposite his father, Lloyd Bridges, on TV’s “Sea Hunt,” Jeff Bridges has enjoyed an acting career that now spans a whopping 65 years. His resume mainly consists of film roles, but he has occasionally ventured back to the small screen, most recently as the star of “The Old Man.” Having already picked up Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for his performance on the FX series, he is naturally one of the strongest contenders for this year’s Best Drama Actor Emmy. If his likely bid results in a victory, the Best Actor Oscar winner will join a distinguished group of leading men who were lauded by the film and then TV academies.

Two decades after he initially became a Screen Actors Guild Award nominee and 13 years after he won Best Film Actor for “Crazy Heart,” Jeff Bridges has received his first television acting notice from the organization. This Best TV Drama Actor recognition comes for his work on FX’s “The Old Man,” which constitutes the first regular small screen role of his 65-year career. If he succeeds on this bid, he will be only the sixth man to win individual SAG Awards for both film and TV performances.
Aside from his win, Bridges’ SAG Awards resume consists of four film nominations for “The Contender” (supporting), “Seabiscuit” (ensemble), “True Grit” (lead) and “Hell or High Water” (supporting). His challengers in this year’s TV drama actor contest are all, unlike him, also nominated in the corresponding ensemble category. When the Emmy Awards 2022 nominations were announced on July 12, producers were not included among the nominees in many categories. That is standard procedure by the Television Academy as they vet the possible producers. As of last night, those names have been added to the Emmys.com website.
Who are the 50+ celebrity producers who just received extra nominations? Many were expected, such as Jason Bateman (“Ozark”), Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), Bill Hader (“Barry”), Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”) and Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”).

Created by Taylor Sheridan, 1883 is the highly anticipated prequel to the Emmy-nominated Yellowstone.
1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America.
It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana.
Elliott is set to play Shea Brennan, a tough as nails, handsome cowboy with immense sadness in his past.
He has the herculean task of guiding a group from Texas to Montana, and he does not suffer fools.

Although Gary Oldman spent the first three decades of his career being criminally overlooked by Oscar and Golden Globe voters, he was recognized much sooner by his peers in the Screen Actors Guild. Before winning Best Actor for “Darkest Hour” in 2018, he earned his first SAG bid in 2001 for his supporting part in “The Contender.” Now, 20 years later, his performance in “Mank” has brought him back for a third time.
Oldman faces off against Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”), Chadwick Boseman (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”), Anthony Hopkins (“The Father”) and Steven Yeun (“Minari”) in the race for Best Actor. While Oldman is the only one to have previously scored an individual award, the late Boseman did triumph as a member of the “Black Panther” ensemble in 2019. Yeun is a first-timer, while Ahmed has one past nomination to his name and Hopkins has six.

For the first 30 years of his career, Gary Oldman was a go-to answer for the question, “Which overlooked actor is most deserving of awards recognition?” Besides being honored with a SAG nomination for “The Contender” in 2001, he wasn’t shortlisted for any major American awards. In 2012, he finally achieved redemption by earning his first Oscar bid for “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.” He then dominated the 2018 season with his portrayal of Winston Churchill in “Darkest Hour,” snagging dozens of trophies, including a Golden Globe from his first nomination. Now, with a second Globe bid for “Mank” this year, he has proven to be more than a one-hit wonder in the eyes of the HFPA.
At the upcoming Golden Globes, Oldman is up for the Best Drama Actor award against Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”), Chadwick Boseman (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”), Anthony Hopkins (“The Father”), and Tahar Rahim (“The Mauritanian”). Rahim and...

Keep your eyes peeled for a potential awards ambush by under-the-radar war film “The Outpost” at the Golden Globes and Oscars. While the film is currently lingering outside the upper echelons of contenders according to our combined odds, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and motion picture academy love war movies, and if enough of those voters see the film, they might find it hard to resist this 2020 success story.

The Outpost is one of the more underrated films of the year. Rod Lurie’s war epic is distinctive, visceral, and a true experience that honors soldiers, while remaining clear eyed about whether they should be in danger in the first place. It’s truly an achievement by Lurie. Now, in honor of Veteran’s Day, the flick is returning to theaters for a special engagement, with added footage, making this a new Director’s Cut. For those who haven’t seen the work yet, it’s truly something, and where available, definitely benefits from top notch sound. A bit more about it can be found below… This is what I had to say about the movie when it first came out in my rave review: “Rod Lurie has a palpable passion for the material, without question, and that helps set it apart. Lurie has always impeccably cast his flicks,...

About 20 years ago, Conor Oberst, the singer-songwriter who fronts Bright Eyes, sheepishly warbled his way out of Omaha to become an emo heartthrob and a baroque-folk New Dylan. But Oberst was never one for sitting still artistically, and he ping-ponged throughout the aughts, from synth–rock to punk to rustic folk, moving to New York and then Mexico, finally going on indefinite hiatus altogether after 2011’s The People’s Key.

“The gates of Heaven and the gates of hell are claimed to be in the same spot. During the firefight, Cop Keating was like the gates of hell: violent, bloody, and full of sorrow. However, watching men sacrificing themselves to protect each other, I could see the true form of brotherhood and love, making the firefight at Cop Keating like the gates of heaven as well.”

Editors Note: Journalist-turned-filmmaker Rod Lurie just oversaw the release of The Outpost, an adaptation of a book by CNN host Jake Tapper on the courageous stand made by a small group of U.S. soldiers against hundreds of Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. Films are often graded by box office grosses, something that has become a meaningless metric in a pandemic that has shut movie theaters around the world. Lurie, who has directed such films as The Contender, The Last Castle and Straw Dogs, here describes what he has found as he has been forced to look past that measuring stick.
Michael Cieply wrote an article on Deadline on Sunday wondering how exactly movies are going to keep “score” these days. It used to be box office. But even when the major studio films are released later this year they will enter into theaters with limited capacities. How much can they possibly make?...
