As the BBC prepares to launch the drama set in Sheen’s hometown of Port Talbot, he told Deadline the pandemic and other recent events played an important role in shaping the script and believability of the three-part series, which is one of the broadcaster’s most anticipated of the year, bringing together three of the nation’s supreme creative talents.
Starring Sheen, who is making his directorial debut, Luke Evans (The Hobbit), Callum Scott Howells (It’s a Sin) and a wealth of talented Welsh actors, The Way tells the story of an ordinary family caught up in an extraordinary chain of events that ripple out from their home town. Definitely a treat of completists, “Yellow Door: '90s Lo-fi Film Club” starts by mentioning Bong Joon-ho's previously unknown first film, a stop-motion animated short titled “Looking for Paradise” that he made in his home basement in 1992, before it dwells in the history of the particular club, which, apart from Bong, also had Choi Jong-tae translation of English books about cinema, being among the most interesting and entertaining aspects of the narrative.
Bong Joon-ho emerges as the protagonist, with him having the most screening time, while the occasionally contradictory testaments about the past, by the people participating in the documentary, induce the film with the “Rashomon” effect, as Bong himself mentions at some point. The changing of offices, the actual yellow door, the upscaling of the club, and Bong's proceedings during his time there take a large part of the documentary. Lastly, the current lives of the people talking...

Get ready for Evil Dead-esque gory mayhem in Visitors. Dig the trailer…
Also recently added to Screambox is Door, an extremely rare home invasion slasher movie from 1988 that has never been screened outside of Japan and has just been remastered. The final 20 minutes are bonkers!
In the film…
“A lonely housewife is held hostage in her own apartment by an increasingly deranged door-to-door salesman in this forgotten home invasion masterpiece.

A musical inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow‘s ski trial is opening soon!
Earlier this year, the 50-year-old actress was involved in a civil trial after retired optometrist Terry Sanderson sued her, alleging that Gwyneth collided with him from behind while he was skiing with an instructor at Deer Valley Resort in Utah in February 2016.
Gwyneth was awarded a symbolic $1 at the end of the trial, as Terry was ruled 100% at fault for the crash.
Keep reading to find out more…
Gwyneth Goes Skiing, a comedy musical based the trial, will open on December 13 at London’s Pleasance Theater.
The synopsis reads: “She’s the Goop-founding, Door-Sliding, Shakespeare-In-Loving, consciously-uncoupling Hollywood superstar. He’s a retired Optometrist from Utah. In 2016, they went skiing. On the slopes of Deer Valley, their worlds collided, and so did they — literally. Ouch. Seven years later in 2023, they went to court. Double ouch. This is their story.

EbonyLife CEO Mo Abudu has called out TV’s gatekeepers, saying they must stop the excuses and begin to order African show with global budgets.
In a keynote interview at Mipcom Cannes this morning, Abudu argued commissioners needed to order more programs with Black or African narratives, and that their budgets need to begin to mirror those of big-ticket titles such as Netflix’s Stranger Things.
Her company has development deals in place with the likes of BBC Studios, Netflix, AMC and Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures, but Abudu said content commissioners remain reticent to order Black or African shows en masse. “I continue to see very little on TV for me as a woman of color. One wonders why,” she said.
“Look at the pyramid of local content versus global content: Where are African or black shows sitting? Probably at the bottom,” she continued. “How many Black or African global shows are there,...

Netflix has a treat in store for superfans of Korean cinema. The streamer dropped the first trailer Tuesday for the upcoming documentary Yellow Door: 90s Lo-fi Film Club, described as “a cinematic ode to the golden era of Korean cinephilia.” (Watch the trailer below.)
Directed by Lee Hyuk-rae, the new documentary takes viewers back to Seoul in the 1990s, when film clubs were exploding on Korean college campuses, providing young students with a creative outlet and a platform to study the art of cinema. Much of today’s global boom in Korean popular culture can be traced back to this formative, freewheeling period. The country had just emerged from the trauma of the student pro-democracy protests of the 1980s — and their often brutal suppression by the former authoritarian government — but the 1990s became a dawning, carefree era of greater freedom and cultural exploration among the country’s youth.

Ann Wilson of Heart has unveiled the single “This Is Now” from her upcoming album with her backing band Tripsitter. The LP, titled Another Door, arrives on September 29th.
Wilson wrapped up recording sessions for Another Door before her 2023 tour. The album features all-original material, and marks the first time since the 1970s that the singer-songwriter has released a full-length album collectively with a band. In addition to Wilson, Tripsitter features bassist Tony Lucido, guitarist Ryan Wariner, drummer Sean T Lane, and guitarist-keyboardist Paul Moak. The album also features contributions from guitarist Tom Bukovac.
Another Door makes a bit of history for Wilson, as it’s the first time in her career where she was the sole lyricist. “This is an exciting time in my creative life; so much new and fresh to remind me of why I love my calling,” she said in a statement.

Screambox is once again heading to Fantastic Fest (September 21 – 28), bringing two brand new Japanese horror films that are going to absolutely blow your collective minds.
The first is Door, an extremely rare home invasion slasher movie from 1988 that has never been screened outside of Japan and has just been remastered. The final 20 minutes are bonkers!
In the film…
“A lonely housewife is held hostage in her own apartment by an increasingly deranged door-to-door salesman in this forgotten home invasion masterpiece.”
Directed by Banmei Takahashi, the story behind Door is extremely interesting.
Many of you may remember Director’s Company, a Japanese production company from 1982-1992 that was made up of many legends of Japanese cinema including Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Sogo Ishii, Shinji Somai, and others.
They made many amazing Japanese films but also broke ground for genre cinema in Japan including the cult classic Evil Dead Trap. Before Evil Dead Trap they...

Bifan has established itself as one of the most significant festivals in Asia regarding the genre cinema of the region, with their program always being quite interesting through its focus on Korean cinema firstly and then of Japan and the rest of the region, along with a number of international titles. As such, the fact that the local industry is in trouble was more than evident this year, when genre movies in particular suffered, mostly due to issues with writing and also due to financial ones. It is true that Korea's top filmmakers are at the top of the world, but it has become obvious that below that level, the quality drops significantly.

The internet loves to hate “The Idol,” but that doesn’t mean the show’s future has been set in stone. HBO has denied a report from Page Six claiming that Sam Levinson and The Weeknd’s controversial drama series will not return for a second season.
“It is being misreported that a decision on a second season of ‘The Idol’ has been determined,” HBO’s official PR Twitter account tweeted on Thursday, hours after Page Six’s report. “It has not, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you Sunday night.”
Page Six’s story quoted two anonymous sources close to the production. One source claimed that The Weeknd, or Abel Tesfaye, was not planning a second season of the series, and that the show was always “intended to be a limited series.” HBO has not explicitly marketed “The Idol” as a limited series, so it...
