This version of Datta deviates greatly from Saratchandra's original story for the sake of dramatic effect, for instance in the confrontation between Bilas and Naren during the forcible eviction of Naren from his father's house, or the bitter denunciation of Rashbehari by Bijoya at her wedding. The outstanding performance comes from the incomparable Utpal Dutt as as the sanctimonious hypocrite trying to enmesh Bijoya and grab her property.
