In the short video clip Jackson said the tour will start back up as the “State of the World” tour, named after a song from her seminal album “Rhythm Nation 1814”. Related: Janet Jackson Shares […]...

Janet Jackson unveiled the track list, release date, and titular single from her latest album, Unbreakable, on Thursday. The song (listen below) plays like a pleasantly retro-sounding, long-overdue love letter. To whom? Well, it's hard to listen to the outro and not think she's at least slightly winking at her fans: "Hello / It’s been a while / Lots to talk about / I’m glad you’re still here / I hope you enjoy." But Unbreakable, song and album, like much of Janet's prior material, will likely work on various levels. "Themes [of Unbreakable] will include, Janet's views on where we stand today as individuals and as the inter-related elements of a planet. Some of these relate to her convictions passionately expressed in Rhythm Nation 1814, including the need to bring things out in the open and to have a dialogue," notes a statement on her website. "The album also will mark the first...

At the top of a definite genre shortlist is William Wesley’s 1988 title Scarecrows, a little horror flick about the eponymous objects used to frighten birds away from crops. Unfortunately, to use a cheap analogy, their use as frightful entities on film is parallel to their safeguarding of crops, effective only to the cognitive capabilities of smaller creatures. While Wesley maintains an effective command of ambience throughout this nocturnal jaunt through the vegetation, a bounty of budgetary restraints, strained performances and belabored writing seemingly brought on by a limited concept mark the film as fodder for the Mystery Science Theater 3000 experience.

Janet Jackson stepped out for the Giorgio Armani 40th anniversary dinner reception in Milan, Italy, on Thursday. The singer and her husband, Wissam Al Mana, were spotted arriving at Nobu for the event, and she kept a low profile in a hooded blazer. We haven't seen too much of Janet since her brother Michael passed away in 2009; she hasn't walked a red carpet since October 2014, when she attended a Vogue event in Dubai, and before that, she stepped out for an amfAR benefit in 2013. Though she doesn't do very many public appearances, Janet has been devoting her time to various charity organizations, including Unicef. She also stays in communication with her fans on Twitter. Just last week, a mock "missing persons" flier of the singer went viral - fans urged the public to reveal "any information about Janet Jackson and her return to the music industry" - and Janet retweeted it with the message,...

Stepping out for some evening festivities, Beyonce Knowles took a stroll around Manhattan on Thursday night (October 30).
The 33-year-old “Crazy in Love” singer was joined by a few friends and showed off her natural beauty with minimal makeup, sporting a blue and red plaid top with a grey skirt.
Meanwhile, Queen Bey is wearing her influence on her sleeve this Halloween, as she posed in a Janet Jackson-style outfit for a fan selfie.
Knowles’ ensemble seems to be taken from Miss Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 album era, and includes a black baseball cap and some chunky jewelry.

This week marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In The U.S.A.” The album, which sold more than 15 million copies in the U.S. alone, is not only his best-selling title, it is likely his most misunderstood. The title track, about the disillusionment of the American Dream as seen through the eyes of a soldier returning from Vietnam, became a controversial lightning rod after then-president Ronald Reagan and other conservatives embraced it as a patriotic anthem. The album boasted a staggering seven top 10 singles (a record shared with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation 1814”) and catapulted Springsteen from star to stadium-filling superstar. Here’s a look back at the 10 best lyrics from the album.

Every Halloween party needs a playlist, and yours better be the gayest. To ensure that your guests are treated to spooky queerness, put these 20 tracks in your iTunes and legally marry the night.
1. Sharon Needles, “Every Day Is Halloween”
Sharon’s cover of the Ministry jam is sinister, cool, and effing evil, just the way she intended. Have you checked out her list of favorite horror movies yet? Just as terrfiying.
2. Janet Jackson, “Black Cat”
Janet’s rock anthem from Rhythm Nation 1814 warns partygoers to watch their step because, y’know, the kitty is coming out.
3. Madonna, “Supernatural”
Madonna’s spookiest jam is this Like a Prayer b-side that appeared in a fun house mix on the Red Hot + Dance LP. This is the only time Madonna has ever communicated with ghosts on record, as we’ve never been given access to her conversations with Frida Kahlo and Dita Parlo.

With its provocative cover of a topless Janet Jackson having her breasts cupped by an otherwise-unseen man, janet. (pronounced “Janet Period,” by the way) signaled a significant career shift when the album arrived in the spring of 1993. We’d seen a newly liberated, martial Ms. Jackson on both Control and Rhythm Nation 1814, and we’d gotten a glimpse of her startling lower register on that '80s love anthem/wordplay parenthetical, “Love Will Never Do (Without You).” But janet. brought us a supple sex kitten where a “Black Cat” had once prowled. “That’s the Way Love Goes,” the album’s lead single, slinked its way easily onto summer mix tapes, but the follow-up, “If,” released on July 13 of that year, was like a punch to the eardrum. After twenty years, the song still sounds as fresh as it did then; it may even come across as being fresher.

Janet Jackson has joined the exclusive billionaires club thanks to her mega-successful albums, tours and acting roles, Variety reports.
According to the publication, Jackson has raked in a total of $260 million in album sales thanks to her hit albums Control (1986), Janet (1993) and Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989), and another $81 million off music and publishing fees. Her sold-out world tours have earned her another $458 million, with an additional $81.5 million coming from tour sponsorships and licensing fees.

And let's not forget that Jackson is an actress too -- her roles in The Nutty Professor, The Klumps, Poetic Justice and For Colored Girls has banked her a whopping $304 million.
Though Jackson of course isn't the only billionaire in her marriage -- her husband, retail entrepreneur Wissam Al Mana (whom she married last year in a private ceremony), is a billionaire all on his own.

The best thing about award shows is they inevitably mess up. The Oscars infamously snubbed Brokeback Mountain for Best Picture, the Grammys crowned Milli Vanilli as Best New Artist, and the MTV Music Video Awards have these 10 gigantic snafus. Following last week's announcement of the 2012 Video Music Awards nominations, I'm looking back on the 10 worst offenses in the show's history. The #1 still makes me gnash my teeth.
10. James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" wins Best Male Video (2006)
"You're Beautiful" is one of the most cloying, hilariously weepy videos ever to be nominated for Best Male Video. So was its fellow nominee, "What's Left of Me" by Nick Lachey. In a year when balladeer schmaltz went up against the genuine phenomenon of Kanye West's "Gold Digger," you'd think the latter could've prevailed. Not the case.

Teenage Dream now has six top-five hits, tying Janet Jackson and George Michael's record.

What do Katy Perry, Janet Jackson and George Michael all have in common? Well, aside from making catchy tunes, they are also the only three artists to spawn six top-five hits from a single album on the Hot 100 chart in Billboard history.
Thanks to Katy's latest Teenage Dream single, "The One That Got Away," jumping five spots from #9 to #4, she tied the two pop stars.
It's been a while since anyone matched George and Janet. Michael did it in the mid-'80s with his album Faith, which included hits like the title track, "I Want Your Sex" and "Father Figure." Jackson followed him several years later with Rhythm Nation 1814, which launched hits like "Love Will Never Do (Without You)," "Escapade" and "Black Cat."

Katy Perry makes her way into the record books (again) this week, as “Last Friday Night” moves into the top spot on the Billboard Pop Songs chart. It’s the fifth single from her 2010 album Teenage Dream to land in the top spot, the most for any album in the 19-year history of the chart.
Perry is already riding high with nine MTV Video Music Award nominations, the most of any artist, and is just a few weeks away from celebrating Dream's one-year anniversary on the Billboard album chart, where it is holding tight at No. 20 in its 49th week of release.
While she can now claim the Pop Songs chart record, if “Last Friday Night” moves into the pole position on the Hot 100, Perry will tie a record set in 1988 by Michael Jackson’s Bad for the most number ones from a single album. The songbird is already the...

Welcome to No Fact Zone’s weekly roundup of cultural references on The Colbert Report. From Darcy to Danger Mouse, String Theory to Shakespeare, we’ve got the keys to this week’s obscure, oddball, and occasionally obscene cultural shout-outs (hey!).
Howdy Zoners! What a whirlwind week this was! It was a really fun ride for me – almost as fun as the rides at Great Adventure (which I have been to as well, Stephen)! I have to admit a soft spot for Stephanie Coontz, because as a Women and Gender Studies minor in school, I had the opportunity to read some of her work, and really enjoyed it. So, I was especially giddy when she was on. What was your favorite segment this week?

With the passing of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop leaves behind eight siblings, each of whom has at once point been a recording artist. From the Jackson 5, to Michael and Jermaine's solo careers, to Janet becoming one of the leading female artists of her generation, the Jacksons seemed born with music in their bones.
Rebbie (May 29, 1950)
The oldest of the nine Jackson siblings, Rebbie didn't get a shot at stardom with her brothers. It wasn't until 1976 that she began a professional singing career, albeit one in the background: She was a backup vocalist on albums by the Emotions and other R&B acts. In 1984, fresh off the record-breaking success of Thriller, Michael produced Rebbie's hit single "Centipede," which rose to #4 on the R&B chart.

Pop superstar Janet Jackson has reportedly been ordered to lose weight immediately - or face being dumped by her record label. The Rhythm Nation singer's career took a nose dive when her infamous wardrobe malfunction at 2004's Super Bowl saw her last album Damita Jo flop, and sources close to Jackson allege she has since been seeking comfort in food. Record label Virgin are so concerned about her extra pounds, they have reportedly hired a personal trainer ahead of promotion for her latest album. A source tells PageSix.com, "Janet had a really bad year. This new album is supposed to be pretty good, but Virgin feels it can't market it without Janet being back in fighting form, so they have hired her a personal trainer and put her on a diet. She has to lose at least 20 pounds." But a pal insists there's nothing to worry about: "Janet always gains weight when she's not working - and always loses it in time to promote her albums. Janet always takes care of it when it matters."...
