Musical Romance
coyets29 June 2005
Jasmin Schwiers, playing the role of Lisa, Alex's sister, was the highlight of the film. She conveyed a sadness and acceptance of fate without a hint of overacting. Alexandra Neldel, playing Alex, and Jürgen Lehmann, playing Tom, had much less demanding roles, and acted sufficiently well to distract the viewer from the paucity of the plot, the banality of the themes, and the mediocrity of the music. The other actors were also good enough for their undemanding parts.

There were some aesthetic scenes and plenty of changes in emotion, including more sorrow than is usual for musical romances, but none of this was sufficiently inspired to turn the unimaginative story into a good film.

To really enjoy such a film, it would help enormously to like the boy group music which was an integral part of the tale. I know that many people are fans of this type of music and presentation of songs, and they would surely enjoy it rather more. The music and atmosphere in the final scene provided a contrast, which was not only positive in itself, but actually made the end of the story rather more credible.

It was quite entertaining, but there are better stories out there to tell.
