Shabana Azmi had the meatier role in the movie - she portrayed a woman who is in love with both the heroes simultaneously and has to choose between them. That was bold for a commercial movie of 1980-81. Reena Roy who had replaced Parveen Babi looked jaded and was not very convincing as the liberal woman addicted to drugs. Parveen was definitely missed.
After Jwalamukhi Prakash Mehra started Lawaaris. Again Parveen Babi was opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the film as she had gone away, Zeenat Aman did the role. When the film was released, Parveen Babi had come back to India and finally Prakash Mehra signed her for his next film Namak Halal and at last they worked together.
Parveen Babi was signed for the lead role. During the shooting of the film, she had an incident during a scene, that caused her to run off and lock herself in a room. She was diagnosed as schizophrenic. Prakash Mehra had no choice but to replace her. The scene was shown in the film Woh Lamhe. While Prakash mehra had signed Ranjeeta Kaur to replace Parveen, Shatrughan convinced Mehra to take his then girlfriend Reena Roy instead.
After the super sucess of MuqadarKa Sikander, Prakash Mehra srarted Jwalamukhi and another film incidently with same story tittled Jyoti Bane Jwala started and completed fast and released before Jwalamukhi. The tittles of both films start with. ' J' and Waheeda Rehman, Vinod Mehra and Kader Khan were in both films playing same roles.
The film was written for Amitabh Bachchan but he was unable to do the film.
