The only decent copy (nitrate) of this film survived in the Finnish Film Archives possession and was used for the new restored version (2004) done by Bundesarchiv-Filmarchiv (Berlin) with the support of Waldemar Bonsels-Stiftung.
Filmed in May 1924, completed in 1925, released in 1926.
A 40 minute cut of the British version of Maya is retained in a private archive in Scotland on original 35mm nitrate stock. The archive had also reprinted sections of the film to super 8mm format in 1987 having claimed UK rights and then a full reprint in 2000 for preservation. The 35mm original is the only other known copy of Maya and is scheduled for a 4K transfer possibly in 2015.
