Didn't Stick Around much
militantofnothing2 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Before taxi there was this pilot called "Stick Around". Unlike taxi, this show focused on the year 2055 where people have robots as servants. The show sticks to the traditional sitcom formula but the year that its based on make it much more original. The pilot focuses on a couple and there robot servant(andy kauffman)who appears to be a much older model, which explains the reasons to a lot of his malfunctioning.

Despite that the show had way more potential than taxi,it didn't go further than the pilot which is a total shame. I believe Andy Kaufman playing a incompetent robot goes more with his unique persona and acting.

Fans Of Andy Kauffman definitely should give this is a look.

A Kaufman Joke?
gabrielkoot20 July 2018
Is this an Andy Kaufman joke on the audience or a real series? It is supposedly a TV pilot from the seventies about a couple who have an "old" robot that breaks down all the time. This is Kaufman and the show is set in 2055 and has a lot of jokes about present day 1970s. The male of the couple wants to sell Andy because he breaks down all the time and drops trays of dishes etc. Also he runs an antique store that has stuff from the seventies in it and he's wrong about what all the stuff is used for etc. He thinks a toilet is art, stuff like that. Also Andy works with him at the store polishing ladders and wrapping customers' purchases etc very poorly, so it makes no sense why he would have this robot with him at work let alone at home where he also just breaks stuff and makes snarky comments. They get a new robot and put Andy up for sale, yada yada the show makes no sense and has the worst theme song in the history of TV.

Wow, was this bad!

I am surprised I never heard of "Stick Around", as it was terrible AND starred Andy Kaufman. Apparently, it was so bad that this pilot episode was not approved as a series...and it's easy to see why.

The show is set in 2055 and Andy is a robot owned by a knucklehead who owns an antique store. I say knucklehead because he seems to know nothing about the stuff he's selling and he spends much of his time arguing with Andy. It gets worse when their store is robbed and nice Andy helps the robber.

Andy Kaufman sounded just like his character from "Taxi", Latka. Fortunately for him and the world, the show bombed with the network and he soon went on to "Taxi"...a very good and successful series.

Apart from having a horrid title song, the show had a horrid laugh track...which only made it more obvious that the show wasn't funny. The only thing really funny about the show is laughing at how bad it was...and it was pretty awful.

Well It Was Original
elliot_gordon126 July 2018
This was bizarre and not particularly funny but you can't say it wasn't bold or original. Andy Kaufman plays a robot in the year 2055 who is breaking down and his owners consider selling him. He also helps them by working in their antique store which sells things from "present day" 1970s but they don't know what the stuff really is, for example how to use a handgun or that a toilet is not a piece of art.
