Gotta tell ya, I loved the Alice books growing up. Those with the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory books were great reads as a kid. It's one of my favorite rides at Disneyland, one of my favorite Disney cartoons (yes, they combine elements of Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Who cares.) and I even loved American McGee's Alice PC game. But will Burton's vision of the tale be as twisted as American's was? Honestly, I would have loved to have seen an adaptation of that video game more than anything else, and even though one was in the works, it's been a slow moving project for quite some time. For now I'll take what Hollywood gives me when it comes to Alice. But enough of McGee's Alice, let's talk Burton's Alice. Former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar has moved on from slaying vampires to becoming the Queen of Hearts in a new movie adaptation of Alice In Wonderland. The actress will star in Alice, a big-screen adaptation of a video game based on Lewis Carroll's classic tales, according to the trade publication Hollywood Reporter. The popular electronic game, American McGee's Alice, has the famous fictional character returning to Wonderland as a troubled adult, seeking to confront her childhood fears and cope with her parents' tragic death.

Universal Pictures is making Alice, an adaptation of video game American McGee's Alice, with Sarah Michelle Gellar attached to star for director Marcus Nispel. Alice is based on the Electronic Arts game created by American McGee, a lead designer of the Quake and Doom series of games. EA's game is based on Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland novels, which are in the public domain. In the game, Alice has grown up to become a disturbed young woman. After her parents are killed in a fire, Alice returns to Wonderland, a dark and threatening place of looking glasses, mysterious potions, nonsensical tea parties and talking animals, confronting her fears and the wicked Queen of Hearts.
