The film was controversial because Rani Mukherjee's character, a teenage girl, smokes in the film. Many critics thought this may convince many female teenagers who look up to Rani to smoke.
In the year 1983 Dharmendra produced a film titled Bichhoo with Sai Paranjpe as the director. Raj Khosla was originally supposed to direct the film. After he passed away , Sai Paranjpe took over as director. Now she needed a producer so she approached Shashi Kapoor. Shashi declined the offer because he told her in the movies he produced, he selected everything. Shashi told her he selected the story, cast, composer etc. Sai then approached Dharmendra who loved her previous film Sparsh. He agreed to produce the film for her. Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi signed for the lead roles. Then things went wrong and the film was shelved after the first shooting schedule. After about 17 years, the title Bichhoo was given to this movie.
The Hollywood film The Professional was first to be made as Mrityudaata with Amitabh. Later Mehul Kumar dropped the subject and decided on a different script. Later Tinnu Anand wanted to make the film with Amitabh after Major Saab. He to dropped the idea. It was finally made as Bichhoo.
Bichhoo was liked by masses very well...it was semi hit on those days but due to its popularity and huge demand for repeat value in b&c centres it becomes big hit now
