The movie had to be shot in only three days, the period of time the video equipment was on loan. The total budget for the film was 240.000 pesos, around 100 US dollars.
Useche explained to a Colombian newspaper that the title Vana Espuma comes from an expression used in the 1619 play Fuenteovejuna that he found echoed in the Spanish translation of Freud's book On Dreams. In the introduction, Freud talks about other scientists who discouraged his work on this subject saying that dreams are "Schaum" (froth) a word which translated into Spanish as vana espuma (Idle Mist).
