A Mexican Affair Created and performed by Rafa Reyes Produced and directed by Jeremy Williams The Metropolitan Room, NYC Saturday, April 8, 2017
What keeps A Mexican Affair -- cabaret show headlined by Rafa Reyes and backed by a fine Latin group -- going? It is the immense personable charm and contagious self-delight of Rafa himself, coupled with the powerful support he receives from the quintet behind him. This young singer from Mexico, who came to the United States to attend New York’s American Musical and Dramatic Academy, certainly has “that something” and it bespeaks of the kind of presence that compels an audience to stay with him and see what will unfold. That’s no mean feat in the world of solo cabaret performing (or in solo performing of any kind). The seasoned New York cabaret audience knows immediately if the performer in front of them is up to something,...

A lesbian and homophobe walk into a nightclub on this week’s Empire — but not to worry, they’ve got common interests: Namely April, a sparkly, sexually fluid and verrrry sexually available young woman who’d like to teach the world to sing. (And by sing, I mean, “check out the pistol-shaped tattoo on her inner thigh… and then explore other nearby landmarks.”)

Santa Monica, Calif. — It's been four years since Natalie Cole received a kidney from a Salvadorian donor, and the singer says it not only connected her to Hispanic culture, it has given her the strength to record her first post-operation album – totally in Spanish.
"I don't believe in coincidences. I believe everything happens for a reason. That this was a Latin family, I feel like I'm part Latino now. That (made) the desire to make this record became even stronger," Cole said recently during a private listening session of "Natalie Cole En Espanol," released this week.
This is Cole's first album since she received her kidney in May 2009. Her donor was a young woman from El Salvador who died while giving birth to a baby boy, Lucas, said Cole (the Grammy-winner received the donation after suffering from hepatitis C, a liver disease spread through contact with infected blood).

Michael Chiklis enjoys calling the shots.
He does that to a certain degree as a star and co-executive producer of the CBS drama series "Vegas," which has just moved to Fridays. However, he does it much more with in this week's (April 12) episode, since he also directed it.
"It was a blast," Chiklis tells Zap2it. "This is a big show, and the production value is so high-end, I had a great time getting behind the camera on it.
"When I started the series, I knew I was going to want to direct, so we talked about it right from the outset. It was agreed that I would direct at least one episode every season, and this year, I agreed to wait until the back nine. We wanted to get the show up and running and established first, and it worked out perfectly."

The nominees for the 2012 Latin Grammy awards are in, and Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra tops the list with six nods.
Guerra scored two of the 10 "Best Song" nominations for his "Azul Sabina" and "En El Cielo No Hay Hospital." The Dominican singer’s unique blend of merengue, bolero, bachata and rock has already earned him 12 Latin Grammys.
The list of nominees released Tuesday by the Latin Recording Academy includes both established musical titans such as Cuban jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, and relative newcomers, including Afro-Colombian hip hop group Choc Quib Town.
Brazil's Caetano Veloso, who first came to prominence in the 1960s playing a samba-infused style of rock known as Tropicalia, is up for four awards. Caetano will also be honored as the "2012 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year."
The Latin Grammys are scheduled for Nov. 15 in Las Vegas and will be televised by Univision.

If you missed the last moments of last week’s Chuck, “Chuck vs. the Cubic Z,” speed thee to this recap!
This week’s episode, “Chuck vs. the Coup d’Etat,” begins immediately following Chuck’s almost proposal. Sarah asks if Chuck is, in fact, proposing, but he assures her he is not. Both voice lame excuses before running out of Castle in opposite directions. The picture freezes as it is revealed that Morgan and Chuck are reviewing the video of the “proposal.” In a relationship made up of awkward moments, this is the most awkward moment in all of Chuck and Sarah’s relationship. What’s really torturing Chuck is the question: Would Sarah have said yes if it was a real proposal? Sarah, unfortunately, isn’t talking to him about the situation at all. Morgan asks Chuck a more important question: Would Chuck have been happy if Sarah said yes?...

Wow -- that was one filled-to-bursting "Chuck" on Monday (Oct. 11). Between the return of Generalissimo Goya, Chuck's big conversation with Ellie, Casey owning every scene he was in, the Awesome statue, Morgan and Alex ... you get the idea. Lots and lots of stuff going on.
All of it, though, came back to relationships, and all of them had significant developments. So let's break it down.
Chuck and Sarah: After the not-proposal of last week, Morgan tells Chuck that he and Sarah are "crap communicators" -- which, really, no argument here. Aided by self-help guru Dr. Fred's latest book (side note: Why would there be a book signing at the Buy More?), Chuck initiates a series of "useful" but occasionally very silly conversations, bringing up Sarah's defenses and her essential fear of commitment: "Why do we always have to talk and change things? Why can't we just be?"
They each...
