Just okay.
cinephile-2769029 October 2018
I used to have this on VHS. I would watch it and make it up to about a half hour and give up. I sat through the whole thing once and I still did not care for it.

The movie does have cheesy but enjoyable jokes. For example, Felix follows a light that talks, and he falls in a hole that he leads her into. He then says: "I think I'm beginning to fall for you!" I enjoyed stuff like that.

I COULD nick pick what snippets of the movie I enjoyed. Everything else was boring and not compelling. And some characters have annoying voices-like Felix, and the villain's also evil nephew.

Oh, and the nephew has a random shot of him picking his nose for 3 seconds, with sound effects. He never does that again, so what was the point of that? Linus in the Charlie Brown specials sucks his thumb, continuously-it's a part of his character. But this nephew picks his nose ONCE for no reason at all. What a waste of paper for that to be drawn!

Oh, and speaking of which, this is not the best looking animated movie, either. Oliver and Company and The Land Before Time came out the same year, and both look way better!

Just skip this movie. The good moments are not even really worth it. There are much better movies to show your kids.

Not that bad but still kind of awful
caricatunssss26 November 2018
The movie has a lot of problems, such as the non-stop pacing, the bouncy weird animation and the unnecessary stupid scenes. But still has it's good things. Characters are boring and annoying at times but some of them have it's own personalities and make them interesting. There are many silly scenes, but i think that was on purpose. The film is weird but is weird because the writers tried to make this weird, and they made a perfect job on doing that, a weird nonsensical film. It doesn't have sense, but it isn't supposed to have sense, that's the fun about this film. Everything is weird and it feels like an acid trip, but a fun acid trip to unplug your brain for a moment. Not as terrible as people says but is true that some scenes are stupid, annoying and the animation is awful. Bad, but not that bad.

This was really put into theaters? Wow.

Warning: Spoilers
I remember watching this on VHS as a kid, and even then, it seemed odd. So, when I got the chance to watch it again, I had to take it and confirm that, yes, even before I developed any sort of taste, there was a reason

You've got:

Colliding art styles: Felix retains some of the start-stop jerkiness often found in old cartoons, while the princess shows some (but not quite enough) fluidity. The rest of the characters are bouncing, flailing, late-'80s style messes. Ugly as sin, and made worse by repeated scenes, which only get uglier the second time through.

For a kid's movie, why the heck is there a scene with mutant seahorses trying to attract the attention of a pair of legs by flouncing their boobs about, and a gag where a young fox is straining to pee on Felix's magic bag?

There's almost no plot. It's more like a series of events that just kind of happen, but never once feels tied together. It doesn't make sense, not in a surreal and zany way (cf. Yellow Submarine), but in a wholly pointless one. There's no depth of character, either; they're all just things moving around on a screen, without motivations or logic or plot.

Presumably, the Professor and Poindexter characters are a tie-in to the old show, but they add absolutely nothing to the movie. In fact, there's a number of scenes that don't seem to do anything besides take up time.

The audio frequently fails to match up with the animation, from the music scenes to voices. And voices are regularly obscured beneath the score and sound effects. But that's okay, because voice acting ranges from apathetic to obnoxious to hammy and overblown. Not that there's much to say. If there's not a groan-worthy line exposition occurring, there's a constant babble of lame puns instead.

It's watchable as an animated train wreck or distraction for kids with undemanding tastes, but an animated classic it is not. Oh, the songs are kind of catchy, in an embarrassingly cheesy manner, though.

Felix The Cat, The Not So Wonderful Cat.
kylehaines9631 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Felix the cat is a cartoon from the 1920's. It was very good and pretty funny. But some Idiot in Hollywood thought that this would transfer well into film. That person should have their brain examined.

The film is about Felix the cat who travels to the land of Oriana to help Princess Oriana to fight off her evil uncle after a science experiment and wants to rule the land of Oriana. There is also a sub-plot about how Felix's Magic bag keeps getting stolen by this mad scientist.

This is a loud and obnoxious film filled with bad characters, stupid story and the sound mixing with characters is awful. Sometimes you cannot understand what the characters are saying. Felix is very dull and kind of sick at times because he sees corpses and starts laughing. Stay away from this awful film and stick to the classic cartoon.

Rated G.

1hr 22min/82min.

Just watch the cartoons and not the movie
daikaiju195428 February 2013
This is the most annoying animated movie from I have ever seen. It never lets up for a second. The only way I can describe this movie is a bunch of kids jumping up and down on a bed yelling.

The film was made in 1989 and it's opens with an introduction by Felix the cat. However this intro is a CGI head that might scare people out of the theater. The rest of the film, however, is rendered in hand-drawn animation. So the CGI Felix head is compliantly pointless. the rest of the film is a just a noise, noise, noise that insults your intelligence.

There have been many movies based of of other cartoons but they mostly suck.

Such as Speed Racer(2008) Scooby Doo(2002) Garfield(2004) Yogi Bear(2010) Alvin and the Chipmunks(2007) Underdog(2007 The Smurfs(2011)

My advise to you is to keep away from this one and stay with the cartoons.

Nice animated film, not the best but not the worst either
TheLittleSongbird21 May 2010
I watched Felix the Cat: The Movie for the first time today expecting it to be terrible, as I had heard people say it was bland, uninspired and an insult to children. After seeing the film, I was surprised at how much I liked it, even with its problems. As a lover of animated movies, I will say I have been better, but I have also seen a hell of a lot worse as well.

Felix the Cat: The Movie was overall an enjoyable if somewhat unexceptional animated film. There are some moments when the animation is nice, with some pretty colours and I liked the animation on the robots and Duke of Zill. And I thought Princess Oriana was absolutely beautiful. But it is also rather inconsistent as well, there are parts in the more dramatic parts when some objects become static and the lip synching is sloppy on occasions. I had no problem with the story, I loved the concept, it was original and quite unique and the film started off really well. But it is in the latter half when the film does drag, but the real bummer was the rushed, abrupt and misplaced ending that could have been so much more.

There are many good things though. The music is great, with wonderful haunting incidental music and the music with Oriana dancing in the bubble was gorgeous. The song "Who is the Boss" is also delightfully catchy, it is strange but in a good way and it is intriguing as well. The story moves along quickly, yes there is a plot even if it is rather strange in places, and there are some humorous moments whether visually or audibly. The dialogue is fun, it isn't bland or sappy it has humour and it made me laugh. I liked Duke of Zill's dialogue, and I liked the character as well. He was underused, but I loved how he was animated, how he was voiced and I loved his flashback back story explaining who he was and how he became to be the way he was. Felix is a protagonist who may grate to some, but I think he has a likable and endearing personality and the voice didn't grate on me. In fact, the voice acting was very well done, Peter Newman was superb as Duke of Zill and Wack(who you don't trust at first but you do sort of like later) and Maureen O'Connell at least emotes. Chris Phillips is good as well as Felix, and Alice Playton(Blix from the 1985 fantasy film Legend) is decent as Madam Pearl.

Overall, not a perfect animated film, but even with its problems, it was enjoyable. 7/10 Bethany Cox

The animated Titanic films were worse
ericstevenson29 August 2018
I was interested in seeing this movie because Doug Walker ranked it as the worst animated movie ever reviewed by the Nostalgia Critic. Yeah, it's probably one of the worst I've ever seen too, but at least it's not in my Top 5. I remember back when this movie had a score of like 6.4. It seems like it went through massive down voting because of the Critic's review. Well, it really does deserve it. The worst thing about this movie is how bad the animation is.

Everything just looks so shoddy and the dubbing is horrendous. I believe this was a film made in Hungary? There's just so much going on and many of these scenes are completely pointless. Well, the plot is that Felix goes to another dimension to save a princess from the Duke of Zill. The most insane part is probably when the princess has tears that come to life and activate the interdimensional transporter. Maybe I would have to watch more of Felix the Cat, but I doubt this is loyal to the original character. *1/2

Wonderful beginning, horrible ending
blueflower_phoenix19 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I will be fair with this movie. Even though it's one of my more beloved movies I would watch when I was a kid, I will admit that the movie's not the best. Shoddy animation and inconsistent character designs (Princess Oriana, for example, looks like she belongs in a different movie altogether.) go hand-in-hand with hauntingly beautiful music and rather clever ideas that, for lack of a better term, are pretty bizarre. Especially keep an eye out for Wack, a reptilian ringleader with a lisp and a sentient scepter armed with a long tongue.

The movie starts out alright. Introducing almost all of the cast right from the get-go and immediately presenting the beautiful world of Oriana captures the audience's attention very quickly. In just thirty minutes, the viewer watches a Felix explores a mine, enters another dimension, escapes a giant shark/manta ray monster, travels through a swamp, and gets captured and placed as an attraction for a circus. There's more attention to detail in the first half than in the second half of the movie. Strangely enough, the ringleader Wack has a lot more show time and personality than the main villain himself. The escape from the circus is more thrilling than the final battle against the Duke of Zill.

Sadly, this movie has a very strange case of misplaced climax. Once Wack's circus is destroyed, the movie really seems to slow down. It almost feels like the movie makers were setting up for a very complicated final showdown against the Duke of Zill, only to find out that the deadline they had to meet was a lot sooner than they realized. You watch as Felix builds acquaintances with characters like the Mizzards and Tim, only to see them rendered useless in the later scenes. (Especially with the Mizzards, who disappear into a suitcase and "conveniently" show up five minutes before the credits) Instead of actually fighting the Duke of Zill, Felix throws a book at one of the Duke's strongest robots to "conveniently" destroy the entire army and the Duke of Zill "conveniently" disappears with a "I'll be back". If you look closely, you can even see some animations from the previous act cycled to fill in for lost time.

It's a good movie, but for limited audiences. If you love Felix, by all means, buy the movie for you or for your children. Few people aside from children, people who grew up with the film, or avid fans of Felix will enjoy this movie. Once you get past the shoddy exterior, one will discover a fun and enjoyable experience for their children.

This was a good movie for a character older than Mickey who deserves more support and attention!
whackamolewv27 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Felix the Cat Movie was amazing! (Spoiler warning) It was intriguing to see Felix the Cat go into a different dimension to meet a princess. Felix the Cat deserves so much more support. The first Felix the Cat cartoon was made in 1919 and that was before the first Mickey Mouse cartoon, so basically Felix the Cat was the Mickey Mouse before Mickey Mouse! I'm tired of people comparing Felix the Cat to awful bootlegs like that stupid Bendy and the Ink Machine game and that tall, stupid Cartoon Cat. Cartoon Cat is some stupid rip-off of Felix the Cat that doesn't deserve to exist. I hope Felix the Cat will get more cartoons and become a star again!

Not as bad as the Nostalgia Critic thinks, but unevenly paced
Stompgal_8725 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Felix the Cat was a cartoon character I was somewhat familiar with as a child. When I was browsing a list of Nostalgia Critic episodes on Wikipedia, I was surprised to stumble across this film since I never knew it existed. I watched his review of this film on YouTube and it started with a repetitive outburst because he found it horrendous. I disagree with him to some extent because there are some parts of this film that were better than others after also having seen this film on YouTube.

This film started off fast-paced due to seeing a fair amount of the first half in the Nostalgia Critic's review; however halfway through the pace began to slow down. There were also a few moments that made me think, "What's going on?" such as a fox cub looking as if it's about to pee on Felix's bag; Felix pointing at a skull, laughing at it and pulling a funny face at it (some may find this disrespectful); and Princess Oriana appearing with her hands over her face during the wacky show scene. There is also a minor use of scene repetition such as when Princess Oriana dances in the bubble and Madam Pearl watches out for her. Before this scene, I found Felix's jokes a tad lame. I agree with TheLittleSongbird with regard to the ending since I also thought it was rushed. The animation is consistent for the most part, but it is quite rapid when Felix tries to catch Orinana's tear due to the noticeable motion blur. In terms of the lip-sync, it was out of place about halfway through, but I saw it as a result of how the film was uploaded since some videos I've seen on YouTube had lip-sync problems. As for the sound, some of it did drown out the dialogue. Felix was the star of this cartoon, but I also liked Princess Oriana and her change of heart towards him.

Overall, this film wasn't as bad as the Nostalgia Critic said in spite of its uneven pace and inconsistencies with sound and lip-sync. 7/10.

What the Hell is this? IS this dubbed? Did it make sense in ANY language???
mamamiasweetpeaches26 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
My husband brought home this DVD yesterday: THE FELIX THE CAT MOVIE. He bought it for a buck. We,as a family, watched it. I have never felt more like I was tripping on acid without actually tripping on acid as I did watching this movie! (Forget PINK FLOYD THE WALL....I can handle That! FELIX...No, just too weird for words!) One of the first things I noticed, aside from the all around poor quality, was it seems like this movie was dubbed to Engish. Makes me wonder what language it was originally made in. The second thing I noticed was that a lot of the characters in this Don't SEEM TO GO TOGETHER! It feels like they took stock footage from three or four different cartoon shows and melded them all together to make a movie! The princess from another planet looks like a wanna-be Disney princess ala Cinderella. Felix looks like....well, Felix.....an old school cartoon a la Betty Boop. Then we have the "Let's Be Modern" bad guy who looks like a cartoon version of something you might see in a Power Rangers show. (Where is his head???? How does he see, talk, or breathe with that kettle on his head?????) There were a lot of characters in this and they jumbled them all together...without much success. This was a movie that was so heinous and horrible that I actually stuck it out until the end. I had to! I had to know where this was going! I had to see if the final conclusion would sum the whole story up and make it somehow make sense. It did not. And then I was just glad it was over. My six year old popped it out of the player and put it with her collection...so I guess I'll be seeing it again some day. (Damn!) I went on Knower Of All Knowledge www.IMDb.com today to see if they had this movie in their records. They do! And, boy oh boy, was I shocked to find out this flick debuted in the '90s! It looks so much older than that! I thought for sure it was at least as old as the '70s! (A musical number played by a band of cats in the film had me thinking maybe...maybe early '80s). Nope. Some poor saps had to actually sit in a movie theater with their kid(s) and watch this garbage from beginning to end...and pay to do it! I weep for them!

Good film but not the best
johnmathieson-245112 December 2023
I watched the film on the official YouTube upload from the official Felix the Cat YouTube channel. It was a great watch even tho the plot didn't make sense. This movie deserves more love and I'm upset that it flopped, the animation had potential it's a great movie for Felix lovers, I suggest you watch this film it's good. Even tho Felix can be annoying the movie still works I think that the SG head of Felix at the start and the end credits of the film worked. Felix deserves more love, the second movie Felix saves Christmas didn't work but the first movie does work. This is the best movie for a character that has been around since 1919.

Who made this?!
rorymacveigh18 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I think this film wasn't actually meant to be a film at theatres, nor was it meant to be a kids film at all, but in fact was meant to be an American Torture weapon for captured Soviet Spies who suffered from epilepsy. In fact, I don't think you need epilepsy to suffer some really rotten memories from this one. Let me put it this way, its cheaply made, its poorly animated, the dialogue is crass, the sound management sounds like it was done by a 3 year old banging away at the console, the movie never knows when to stop making noise for a few moments, the images seen are enough to leave children mentally scarred and the story is practically non-existent.

Let me break it down. First things first, the problems with this film can be found within the first 2 minutes.

One, the animation is a joke, with the dialogue and the lip movements never matching up, as well as it not having any rhythm, like every other frame was left out to save on cost, so it makes the whole thing rather jumpy.

Two, the sound management is totally unmanaged. There is too much speaking and most of the time its pasted over someone else's dialogue whilst that other person's dialogue is much more important. It's like it's afraid that if the noise stops for a second the viewers will lose all interest. Also, background noises are for some reason given priority over the dialogue as most words can't be heard over a trivial sound in the background.

Three, the characters are just stupid. The Princess is a complete Bimbo who disbanded her army even though the threat of invasion by her uncle loomed over them. Felix is mentally sick, laughing at the dead and talking to himself. And everyone else is just there to make noise and make this movie justifiable, with none of them really making any pivotal points in the story.

As for the story, I don't even want to go there, you folks can try and figure it out, as for me, I have much better things to waste my time on rather than fathoming out what some idiot in Broadmoor could have written in half an hour.

Overall, its a miserable excuse for a film, it's just a waste of animation and film time. I don't think any child would find this enjoyable, and if they did, I'd have them see a Psychiatrist pronto!

Felix's Embarrassing Feature Debut
elicopperman25 January 2022
Felix the Cat was the original star of animation going as far back as the late 1910s and early '20s, but his fame deteriorated by the '30s. It wouldn't be until the late '50s when animator & cartoonist Joe Oriolo revived the character for television and brought a whole new generation into the character's heart. Fast forward to the mid 80s, when Oriolo's son Don attempted to bring back the famous cat in a feature length pilot for a potential new series. After being released to dismal reviews and poor financial return, it spawned a minor cult following on TV and home video releases. Looking at the final product, there's too many reasons as to why.

The movie follows Felix the Cat who is suddenly put on a quest to rescue the princess of the ultradimensional kingdom Oriana. She has been taken prisoner under rule of her villainous scientist uncle the Duke of Zill and his mechanical, geometric army. Now even though this premise does sound fitting for Felix in his crazy adventures, the movie fails to properly establish much about the cat's origins from his series. Instead, it cuts right to the chase in showing the downfall of Oriana, thus sidelining Felix to more a hero needing to rescue the macguffin than a legitimate movie centered around a talking cat with a magical bag of tricks. As a result, any newcomers to Felix will more than likely be confused as to what's going on and even fans of the series will feel disappointed that the show's main antagonist, the Professor, is reduced to nothing more than an added plot convenience. Because the movie's pacing is all over the place, there's not much worth caring about Oriana, the princess, Felix or anyone else for that matter, so what we're left with is a jumbled plot with no proper cohesion.

To make matters worse, the ultradimensional land of Oriana is way too bizarre for its own good. While a lot of the creatures that inhabit the land are fascinating on their own, they're barely looked upon as anything more than nasty rough goons. Not to mention, since over half the movie takes place with our lead characters as prisoners in a circus, there's surprisingly nothing truly exceptional about what should be a unique land out of our world. The most we get are mouse-lizard crossbreeds, an appealing con artist for a ringmaster and a useless bore of a hillbilly minion. Also, it's really pathetic when your princess is so bland and unlikable that the Duke of Zill is a far more sympathetic character. Not even Felix is much to care for since he blabbers on way too much for anyone's tolerance and has the humor of a clown performing at a funeral. Speaking of blabbering, the movie has way too much ADR and gushy sound effects for its own good, even to the point where it feels like a tumor rotting in your brain. Never has one feature with a talking cat for a star ever felt so painful to bear.

If there's anything worth noting about the feature, at least the studio behind the animation, Pannonia, did the most with what they were given. Considering how insane this movie feels with its premise, the character designs and animation do fit with the cartoony and surreal aesthetic the film is attempting to go for. Even a lot of the effects animation and backgrounds are colorfully crafted, minus an unnecessary CG Felix model at the beginning. Also, with some exceptions, the soundtrack does slap on its own, as it utilizes hardcore 80s rock and experimental synthesizers to carry the tunes. Unfortunately, even with all of the talent showcased on screen, not even the trippiest visuals or the catchiest musical number can make up how messy the plot is. Because the film cannot focus on anything or anyone throughout its runtime, the cool and bizarre is only used sporadically and often feels more tacked on than charming. In other words, instead of feeling like we're witnessing something truly unordinary, the movie just goes through one fever dream after another.

Too bizarre to find appealing and too rushed to be a welcome introduction, Felix the Cat the Movie fails to revitalize the famous cat into a new generation. Despite a lot of talented artistry and songs sprinkled throughout, the clunky story, incorrigible characters, horrendous sound editing and insipid world-building are more than enough to keep this film at the bottom of the barrel. Unless you're a curious fan of the cat's filmography, the best advice is to stay away from this disaster at all costs. One can only wonder how such an ambitious project fell so drastically apart when it was passed down from one generation to another.

A rare gem
MemoryMaker13 February 2011
It's honestly quite rare to find non-Disney animated movies of this caliber. I remember renting this on VHS when I was a kid.

When I was working at GamesStop a few years ago a snagged this one under the table because we didn't have it in our DVD inventory. After googling it, I've learned that there's never been a US DVD release of this movie, so I'm honestly unsure where my copy was produced. It's got a red case with a big picture of Felix on the front.

Regardless, I've enjoyed rewatching this movie after growing up. I'm honestly quite impressed with the story. In truth though, it's stunted by a poor presentation. Corny lines are kind of fun, but the story itself is good enough that it's unfortunate the dialogue and character development aren't taken as seriously.

All in all, I enjoyed this movie and think it's definitely worth a view. It's an easy way to distract the kids for 90 minutes. I only wish it was available on Netflix. It's a hard one to find, good luck.

Hopelessly muddled story and badly conceived animation sink this one
lemon_magic12 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I think I see where the creators were trying to go with this weird melange of mixed story elements and bland artistic choices. But for me, it didn't work at all.

First, the story itself. I don't remember much of Felix from my younger days, but I have half-remembered images of an irrepressibly cheerful kitty who pulled amazing things out of his "Bag Of Tricks" and tickled my younger self with his magical "anything can happen" existence. And it's obvious that's what the film makers are trying to do here. But to me,now, it feels forced and phony and annoying.

I found some of the original Felix cartoons on YouTube to see if my adult tastes and sensibilities were to blame...nope, those old cartoons are still weird and goofy and incredibly creative.

But you know what else they were? They're SHORT.

And there's the problem. Felix is a character meant to show up, do something outrageous and tricky, and LEAVE. If you keep him around for 90 minutes plus, you have to try to flesh him out, and add to his backstory...and the creators just don't have the ability to do this convincingly. Now Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett (from this generation) or Theodore Sturgeon, or even R.A. Lafferty...THOSE guys could have come up with a way to fill things out and come up with a story that justified this much time with the character without exhausting our patience.

I might have been able to live with a poor story if the actual animation quality had been better, but to me, that's where the film really falls down. You'd expect this level of animation for a weekly kids cartoon on TV, not a feature release.

The character designs were generic and undistinguished, and the animation was pure hack work. I understand that good animation is hard, hard work; it takes time, talent, money, and inspiration. "Felix" was completely lacking in inspiration and talent. Or else the talent didn't have any time or money. Once every 3-4 minutes, there would be a nice flash of something decent, but if you blinked, you'd miss it.

Also, the sound was mixed and synched so badly that half the time I couldn't make out what the characters were saying. The voice acting appeared to be the stuff from the first couple of takes from actors who spoke English as a second language. And there were musical numbers that were neither funny or charming.

A kid might like this. A LITTLE kid, who hadn't grown up with Warner Brothers, Ralph Bakshi, Disney, Don Bluth, and Pixar and didn't have any taste for "the good stuff". Or an adult who saw this as a kid and has fond memories of it.

I wasn't expecting much, and I got even less. File this one with "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" and "The Magic Voyage": animated bologna that does nothing to make you believe in the power of animation to tell stories that live action can't.

A terrible, wonderful hot mess of a good time.
jamjohnx321 July 2014
I don't know what the scriptwriter was thinking when he scribbled this up. I don't know what the many eyes poring over it once it was conceived thought about it, how the movie even got green-lit, and how anyone that read it could think, "This is the PERFECT movie for Felix the Cat!" What I do know is that they were all high as a kite, and I'm glad that it happened.

Felix the Cat: The Movie was created on acid, and you'll feel like you've dropped some yourself when you watch it. 1950's era Felix and his friends are dragged into a 1980's nightmare. From a purely critical perspective, the movie isn't very good; it's barely passable. From a human perspective, it's a unique, unforgettable experience that is an (poorly) animated smörgåsbord of crazy.

Taking classic cartoon characters and giving them theatrical movies has overstayed its welcome by now, but Felix was one of the first to do it. You're either going to pioneer a bunch of copycats (Scooby Doo) or be hated and resigned from ever trying again (Tom & Jerry). Felix slides under the radar and sits somewhere in the middle. It's my honest opinion that if it wasn't so obscure, it would be a cult favorite.

The basic gist of the movie's plot is that in an alternate dimension, Princess Oriana is forcefully dethroned when her villain-uncle, the Mysterio expy named the Duke of Zill, returns from exile and forcefully takes the throne. Her desperate plea for help manifests as a transdimensional tear that finds Felix and leads him (and the snooping pair of the Professor and Poindexter) to an elevator that takes him to Oriana's world. From there, Felix falls pray to the freakish nature of the land of Zill and is eventually enslaved. Using his magic bag of tricks, Felix finds the Princess and they escape, heading for the castle in an attempt to take down the Duke of Zill.

This movie is such a mixed bag. The animation suffers but the music is great. The story is out of place for something revolving around Felix the Cat, yet the setting is intriguing. The inhabitants of Zill all have monstrous designs, but are otherwise fun-loving people. When you see the state of their world versus the pristine land of Oriana, it makes you wonder if the Duke is really that bad, and just why they were content to see the princess forced to dance in a bubble if they considered her the source of their misfortunes. These are subtleties in the movie you won't see mentioned by people looking to trash it. If Felix wasn't a hopeless optimist with an annoying voice and plenty of crummy jokes, this movie would be a lot darker.

My favorite aspect of this movie, however, are the frequent moments where you just have to stare in disbelief and wonder if that really happened. Besides several bouts of terrible animation that border on hypnotic, there is a scene where the good guys are attacked by flying menaces known as "headhunters" that presumably decapitate (!) their victims, which features a quick frame of a bloody (!!) Oriana that they probably meant to delete. That scene is eventually topped when the characters are suddenly attacked by a man-eating dragon that randomly spouts Marlon Brando lines. I really thought someone had messed with the version of the movie I was watching when that happened, but I gained some respect when I realized it was intentional. Honestly, who *wouldn't* want to be attacked by a man-eating dragon spouting Marlon Brando lines? You're not going to get this kind of satisfaction from Frozen.

This is one of the few movies that I think legitimately qualifies as "so bad it's good."

EVIL!

"Felix the Cat: The Movie",More like "The Felix Horror Picture Show", filled with evil themes involving demons, scary images, and a notorious ruler. The classics from the 1920s and 1930s have the magic that cherishes animation collectors. This crap should have stayed in it home country, Europe, just like the Croatian animated masterpiece "The Magician's Hat", which is more watchable and likable compare to THIS! Stick with the classics, which are the real deals.

Overall, the movie was good, although Felix himself can get really annoying.

In general, this was an interesting movie, using some of the world's first computer animation for special effects. Made right after Czechloslovakia was ridding itself of Communism, this production had a wonderful team of voice actors playing a diverse cast of characters. Overall, the movie was good, although Felix himself, his personality, and his voice can all get really annoying. The animation was quite interesting, as well as the artwork gone into it. It may not be the best movie for everyone, but has always been one of my favorites. I suggest you at least try to see it.

Poor Felix used all his 9 lives when this came out.

I like Felix the cat. Never mind Mickey Mouse, Felix was really the first cartoon character to actually have a personality. But sadly Felix is one unlucky black cat, and this movie is real proof of it. If really deranged animation is your guilty pleasure, I know it's mine, then by all means watch this because it makes Ren and Stimpy look like Filmation. But if you like animation where the protagonist doesn't laugh at dead people's remains or say "woah" every two seconds in an annoying voice, and the characters' dialogue actually makes sense at least 90% of the time, then better leave this one in the bargain bin. I read that Dreamworks now has the rights to Felix. Maybe they can do better with computer graphics than this movie did.

"Boy you could use a map? Ah ha ha ha ha."

That quote right there, that quote easily tells you right there that Felix The Cat is a downright insane person that would look fine at a local Asylum.

Come to think of it, so does this film too. It constantly strangles itself like a crappy Poundland Bart Simpson knockoff and shoves so much weird and trippy imagery down our eyelids and our throats that there is literally, and I mean LITERALLY, no room to breathe for an actual story.

Or actual characters too.

Felix The Cat: The Movie is an 82 minute hellhole, hold on, what am I even saying lads, this is not a film, this is an exercise in constant unbearableness. An exercise even someone like Winnie The Pooh would give up after 4 seconds.

I, one of the few poor unfortunate souls (Disney reverencing aside) actually had this sucker on DVD. And even as a young lad I thought, watching Superman watching The Three Stooges watching Laurel and Hardy watching paint dry would have been more enjoyable than this.

Literally right at the start, the film throws you out of your comfy sofa with noise. "Oh the noise! Noise! Noise!" The Grinch basically summed the film up there.

The film never once SHUTS UP, once one character's talked, then another talks and random sound effects are put here and there. It's as if everyone part of the production thought "Oh no! The film's gonna be crap if it's quiet! Oh my! The kiddie winks will get bored if we don't give em noise!" and they ran around the studio shouting and yelling and thought "Yeah, that would make a good film."

No, it didn't lads. No, it bladdy well didn't.

Also I think this must be the first animated film where you'll want everyone dead within under 4 seconds...

The incredibly irritating and rather psychopathic Felix who could make even Hannibal Lecter cry in his sleep.

The two random guys who want his bag.

The unbelievably retarded princess who actually withdrew her army at the start despite the fact she KNOWS she needed them. (What a dumbarse.)

There is literally not one single human being or animal to root for here, you'll want to literally blow up the dreaded place.

Oh yes and what about the abysmal animation that looks rushed, unfinished and probably has tons of errors?

To those saying it looks like a Saturday morning cartoon, trust me, it wouldn't even look good as a Saturday morning cartoon. Even those choppy 70's cartoons look better than this.

Voice acting is unbelievably grating. I actually came out with a massive headache shortly afterwards. (I'll take all those bad things I said about you back Scaredy Squirrel, you ain't as grating as these miserable lot here.) There's not even a famous person(unless you count Alice Playten from Ridley Scott's Legend and the Disney version of Doug). Not to mention it hardly even matches the chuffin lip synch and in some parts it's so bloody loud you can't even understand what they're saying. Christ el mundo, was all this sound editing done by a one year old? Even then they would have done better.

Felix The Cat: The Movie is an unbearable psychedelic trip that not only hurts the eyes but blows up the ears as if it's some crappy Michael Bay film. Even as a drug it still wouldn't be fun in the slightest.

Everything grates on your nerves within 1 second and it completely spits on the legacy of this beloved character.

Easily one of the worst animated films ever made and a horrible experience I never want to revisit again.

Now run away children, run as fast as you can and never look back at this damn thing.

AAAAARRGGGH!
