The film was completed in 1988, but was not released in the U.S. until three years later.
This movie has not received a DVD/Blu-ray release in the United States possibly due to rights issues. It was only released on DVD overseas. Despite this, the film was uploaded to YouTube by the official Felix the Cat channel in 2023.
Was originally slated for a U.S. theatrical release on Thanksgiving Day of 1988, but postponed due to the bankruptcy of New World Pictures. It eventually got released straight to video in August of 1991 with frequent airings on The Disney Channel later that year.
Though animated mainly in Hungary's Pannónia Film Studio, and directed by Hungarian Tibor Hernádi, the film was not actually released in that country until 1999, 11 years after it had been completed. Since it remained obscure, Hungarian people didn't associate the movie and its overwhelmingly negative reception with their otherwise well-respected animation studio.
