bitter ending
trashgang14 January 2015
Hot Love was available on a compilation, a bit hard to get, made of 12 shorts done by Buttgereit of the famous Nekromantik flicks. But at this writing is rather simple to get hold of it, it has been reissued and lately it came as an extra on the UK release of the Nekromantik Blu Ray.

It's made just before Nekromantik but don't expect that this is a shocking flick. The sound has been overdubbed and it sounds a bit laughable but still worth picking up because for a extreme low budget the effects used as for the vagina are rather okay. You can spot also that they had a lot of fun making this, the acting is below zero and you can see them look toward the camera or they can't hide a smile on their face. But again, the end is not what you might expect from the story. No gore or nudity attached, just a normal story with a bitter ending.

Gore 0/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 2/5 Story 2,5/5 Comedy 0/5

Buttgereit as usual

Warning: Spoilers
"Hot Love" is a German movie from 30 years ago and it was written and directed by the infamous Jörg Buttgereit. If you like him, you probably read my review title as a recommendation to watch this movie. that is totally not what it is. With "as usual", I mean the video quality is very bad, the acting is totally amateurish and the action is simply uninteresting. His films always try to be as shocking as possible and still have zero cinematic value, even if they occasionally achieve it. This one here is about romance again as well, but also about violence, like "Nekromantik", his trademark movie. The version I saw was only 30 minutes long and not 40 like listed here on IMDb, but that was more than enough. The only somewhat positive aspect I can see here is that Buttgereit was only in his early 20s when he made this one and it would be way worse if he was an established filmmaker and made such a piece of crap. Then again, he did later in his career. Highly not recommended.

hey! this is buttgereit - so this is not for everybody

Longer than your usual short, but quite shorter than a normal film this one starts off like a love story with cheap camera and turns out to become..... hehehe , everything that Buttgereits work is about. Amateur but fresh camerawork, perfect (as all Buttgereit long films) ending.

Clearly, to those who don't know the guy (director of cult hit Nekromantik) this is only for those who can appreciate in a way or another sick humour, or sick situations in general. In this one, unlike all his next films (Nekromantik 1,2, Schramm - I consider these serious films) raises a smile. The splatter element is here but in earlier stages.

I bought a special edition VHS in Berlin, which also includes all his early works like HORROR HEAVEN (excellent satire of horror s***!) or THE GOLLOB (Maybe his best short!). Surprisingly, I almost enjoyed all his early works (that definately dont take themselves seriously) more than his more "serious" ones.

For what it's worth this is something I would like to do - I mean - if i made some short films, they might look and sound like this. Thats why I like Jorg :)

Quite possibly the best short film ever
bigredmachine55200214 December 2001
This short was only about 30 minutes long, but its got a great story to it and the music is fantastic. The story is this: A guy loves a girl and he sees her one day with another guy (buttgereit), he freaks out, commits suicide, then she has a baby, and... I won't spoil the rest for anyone who gets ahold of this incredibly rare film. I highly recommend it to any true horror fan.

Decent Short from the Cult Director

Hot Love (1985)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

Fun, if a bit too long, short from director Jörg Buttgereit has a young man falling in love with a girl. The man feels that everything is going good until one day he sees the woman in the arms of another man (Buttgereit). Seeking revenge, he ends up raping the woman and then killing himself. She then gives birth to a baby and.....

I'm not going to spoil what happens but if you're a fan of the director then you should get a small kick out of this short film. If you find the director to be horrid and your hate his "style" then it's best that you just skip this one all together. The first portion of the film really plays out like a goofy little love story but it's the second half where the director's (bad) tastes come into play. Is the film a masterpiece? Absolutely not but at the same time it's certainly a fun little movie, although there's no question that it should have been shortened a bit.

I like this

Story is quite simple and so much familiar. But the music that Daktari Lorenz has composed are beautiful and touching. (I love German musicians; Beethoven to Scorpions) Which made this movie special. A requiem, not only for losers, but winners. Who wants to fight with sense of guilt? But nobody can refuse living.

Both Buttgereit and Lorenz, they are really a poet.
