Kieran Culkin and Pedro Pascal clearly used the 2024 award season to keep their bromance-turned-playful feud alive.
Now that the season is (finally!) over, The Hollywood Reporter is taking a closer look at the interactions between the pair, who competed for several awards for best male actor in a drama series for their roles in Succession and The Last of Us, respectively. And they took nearly every opportunity they could — between red carpet interviews, acceptance speeches and backstage interviews — to comment on their ongoing lighthearted rivalry.
While fans for them both have been eating up all their moments caught on camera, circulating them on social media, The Hollywood Reporter is looking back at when it all started.
Beginning with the Golden Globes in January, Culkin ignited their faux-feud when he said during his acceptance speech for best actor in a TV drama for Roman Roy, “Suck it, Pedro. Sorry. Mine!” The...

The healthy competition between actors Pedro Pascal and Kieran Culkin has been the talk of the town for quite some time now. Pascal said that he’ll “make out” with Culkin after he managed to beat him when he won Male Actor in a Drama Series at the 2024 SAG Awards for his work as Joel in The Last of Us TV series. This was Pascal’s revenge as Culkin managed to beat Pascal at the Golden Globes.

The actor revealed that Culkin boosted his confidence as an actor after he praised him for his theatre acting but admitted that Culkin would deny this if they asked him to recall this story now. Kieran Culkin looks as though someone’s stolen a piece of his soul. We’re seated across from one another in the bustling lobby of the Pendry, a tony hotel in Park City, Utah, and the Succession star has just clocked a middle-aged man not-so-surreptitiously snapping several photos of him from across the room. He shifts uncomfortably in his seat and takes a sip of his pilsner before leaning over to me.
“I’m feeling very… exposed,” he says, his voice a hair above a whisper. “And if you ask them,...

Kieran Culkin won the 2024 Golden Globe for best actor in a TV drama, saying in his acceptance speech that he never expected he would be on the stage. “Suck it, Pedro,” he joked to his fellow nominee Pedro Pascal.
“I was nominated for a Golden Globe like 20 years ago, and when that moment passed, I still remember thinking, I’m never going to be back in this room again.”
“But thanks to ‘Succession,’ I’ve been in here a couple times. This isn’t mine, this is one for the team. I want to thank three amazing women in my life: my manager, without whom I wouldn’t have a career, my wife, Jazz, for putting up with this and all that comes with it, and my wonderful mom.”

Golden Globe winner, Kieran Culkin!
The Succession actor finally took home the award at Sunday’s ceremony, after three previous nominations for his role as Roman Roy in HBO’s acclaimed drama series.
This marks the first year Culkin competed in the lead actor category, alongside co-stars Jeremy Strong and Brian Cox — both of whom previously won the award. All three actors will go head-to-head again next Monday at the 75th Emmy Awards
Culkin also bested Pedro Pascal, nominated for his role in The Last Of Us, which the actor acknowledge in his speech. “Suck it, Pedro. Mine,” he joked, which earned a laugh from Pascal.
But, in reality, Culkin admitted the award was far from his alone, adding “This is one for the team.”

Kieran Culkin told Variety a “Succession” spinoff would be a “horrible idea” when asked about it on the Golden Globes red carpet Sunday afternoon.
Variety’s Marc Malkin then asked Culkin to explain his reasoning, which he responded to by saying, “Remember ‘Frasier?’ Yeah, we all loved ‘Frasier,’ but not every show can be ‘Frasier.'” (“Frasier” was a spinoff of hit series “Cheers.”)
He then said a spinoff based on the Cousin Greg character (Nicholas Braun) would make a good show and that Roman could make occasional appearances: “For like — entrance applause? Would that work in a show like this? That’s why I would do it.”

October is the time for horror, which makes it a great time for independent movies.
As long as independent movies have existed, horror movies have provided a huge bulk of the films made by artists outside the studio system. It’s one of the cheapest and easiest genres to make, with some of the best potential to make a profit, and has unsurprisingly thrived in the independent film market. Many of the most important and acclaimed American horror movies were independent productions. “Night of the Living Dead” practically created the zombie film, while the original slasher “Halloween” was a tiny budget indie made for just $300,000. Sure, there are plenty of quality horror films made by studios, but nothing beats the grit and pure terror that great indie horror films can provide.

Kieran Culkin and Claire Danes worked together on Burr Steers’ 2002 indie “Igby Goes Down,” in which Culkin played the angst-ridden 17-year-old title character to Danes’ slightly older Manhattan socialite Sookie Sapperstein. All these years later, Danes is visibly pregnant, and they chat like old pals about the difficulty of naming her third child with Hugh Dancy. “‘Cyrus,’ we came to pretty readily. ‘Rowan,’ we had to fight harder for. This one is impossible,” she says.
“I realized the movie you and I did together is over half of our lives ago,” Culkin says.
“It’s very nice to see you again,” Danes replies wryly, “in our midlives.”
But the two actors have serious business to discuss, with Culkin convincingly telling Danes that her show “Fleishman Is in Trouble” — particularly her portrayal of Rachel — “helped my marriage.” In Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s limited series, Danes’ Rachel Fleishman appears to be the careerist...

The dynamic sibling duo of Shiv and Roman Roy has been the witty lifeblood of "Succession" since its conception. It might not shock viewers to learn that Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook have a similar banter in real life that almost perfectly mirrors their characters — save perhaps for the constant back-stabbing. The two actors were so in synch that they would even swap dialogue with one another on-set. Some of our favorite Roman insults might have been written for Shiv, and vice versa. Even though their two characters are very distinct, they share an acid tongue that allowed some of their dialogue to be interchangeable.
Working with Snook is such a joy for Culkin that it doesn't feel like work at all. Acting with his Australian-born co-star feels less like a day of hard labor and more like a fun game of catch — if not a slightly dangerous one.

The final season of Succession premiered on March 26, and for the cast of the show as well as the fans, it is the end of an era. Kieran Culkin is one of the show’s fan favorites — and as Roman Roy, he has earned major critical acclaim. While Culkin might just be the most unexpected star to have emerged from Succession, show creator Jesse Armstrong was very confident about what the actor would bring to the table. In fact, in a recent Esquire profile, Armstrong revealed that it was Culkin who helped him realize that he was on the right path with the show.

Succession is one of HBO’s hottest shows, a series that has cemented the network as one of the best purveyors of black comedy and family drama. One of the show’s biggest stars is Kieran Culkin, a member of the iconic Culkin family and a talented actor in his own right. While Culkin has been performing since he was a small child, Succession is the show responsible for making him a star. Ahead of the finale, Culkin opened up about how his life has changed since Succession started, how sad he is that the series is ending, and why he doesn’t expect to stay in touch with his co-stars in the coming years.

When Succession debuted on HBO in 2018, the show didn’t take long to get the attention of viewers and critics. The series follows the family owners of a media conglomerate, and perhaps it’s most notable for its stellar ensemble cast. Over the years, fans have learned a lot about what it was like making the show, including how Kieran Culkin managed co-star Brian Cox’s on-set “outbursts.”

Succession features a stunning ensemble cast led by Brian Cox. The actor plays billionaire Logan Roy opposite Alan Ruck, Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong, and Sarah Snook. Much of the cast has received praise and accolades for their performances. And for Culkin, it marks the most lauded role of his career. Yet, even now, the actor refuses to speak with a notable pair of media outlets.

Since it premiered on HBO in 2018, Succession has gotten a lot of attention for its performances, intricate storytelling, and high-stakes drama. But the show could inadvertently take one of its stars into a completely different genre going forward. Here’s how Succession just might lead actor Kieran Culkin down the road toward becoming an action movie star.

Kieran Culkin is opening up about growing up with his massive and famous family in New York City. Kieran, who stars as Roman Roy on "Succession," is one of seven kids shared by Kit Culkin and Patricia Brentrup. The pair never married, though their split in the 1990s and ensuing custody battle became tabloid fodder because Kieran's brother Macaulay had become very famous after starring in 1990's "Home Alone" franchise. Kieran revealed in an interview with Esquire published March 27 that his dad - an actor himself - had all seven try to be actors, though only Macaulay (who his siblings call Mack), Kieran, and Rory pursued it seriously.
The family grew up in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, and Kieran says that even though he was just a kid himself, he felt bad for the way fame affected Macaulay's life. "Poor f*cking guy," he told Esquire of his brother.

Kieran Culkin had a Succession question dropped in his lap while promoting the fourth and final season of the Emmy-winning HBO drama series.
During Culkin’s visit to The Tonight Show on Friday, host Jimmy Fallon noted that the actor’s character, Roman Roy, appears to enjoy sitting on chairs in unconventional ways, including resting himself on the back of one. Fallon proceeded to show a few episode stills that emphasized the point.
“A lot of fans of yours think Roman doesn’t understand chairs and how they work because every time you’re sitting, it’s always the oddest position I’ve ever seen,” Fallon quipped.
After a laugh, Culkin replied, “I didn’t notice that until after the second season — people started pointing that out. And a lot of people, including my wife, thought that that was something I was told — it was either in the writing or the director said,...

Exclusive: Ryan Phillippe (MacGruber), Mireille Enos (Hanna), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) and Taryn Manning (Orange Is the New Black) are the latest additions to Michelle Danner’s courtroom drama, Miranda’s Victim. They join an ensemble led by Abigail Breslin, which also includes Luke Wilson, Andy Garcia and Donald Sutherland, as previously announced.
The film will tell the true story of Trish Weir (Breslin), who in 1963 was kidnapped and brutally raped by Ernesto Miranda. Committed to putting her assailant in prison, Trish’s life is destroyed by America’s legal system as she triggers a law that transforms the nation. Her case notably results in the establishment of the Miranda rights afforded to criminal suspects taken in police custody, to ensure the admissibility of statements made during interrogation, as part of subsequent criminal proceedings.

He’s a cha cha real smooth talker. He’s 22, tall and handsome with a beard, but not a scruffy hipster beard — more like a post-millennial, post-ironic traditional beard, which sets off features that are finely chiseled in a Middle American corporate way. He’s just out of college but has no idea what he wants to do. He’s a Zoomer spinning his wheels, part of a tradition of aimless rebel slackers that stretches back to “The Graduate.” He’s sincere but a bit smarmy, a “nice guy” who knows how to use his sincerity. He is, of course, good with the ladies, maybe a little too good, which is why he attracts the amorous attentions of a mother he meets at a bat mitzvah, played by Dakota Johnson. And he’s got problems, but they’re sort of white people problems. You could call them old-school indie-film problems.

Do not adjust your WiFi settings. No, you are not experiencing a severe case of Deja Streaming-vu. HBO Max’s list of new releases for May 2021 are indeed highlighted by two very recent WarnerMedia hits.
For starters, Tenet finally makes its long-awaited HBO Max this month. Mark your calendars as May 1 is the day that you can finally watch Christopher Nolan’s latest cerebral thriller. Of course, Tenet already had its theatrical release, but obviously that was not really an option for many of us. We've already discussed how Viola Davis had a spectacular 2002. But truth be told, it’s incredible how many actresses turned out multiple great performances in that film year: Samantha Morton headlined one of the best films of the past 20 years with intoxicating subtlety in Morvern Callar while delivering the most visceral, unsettling element of Minority Report. Maggie Gyllenhaal announced herself with a bang in Secretary and folded beautifully into the ensemble of Adaptation. Multiple cast members of The Hours gave equally memorable characterizations in other films - Meryl in Adaptation, Julianne in Far From Heaven, Miranda in Spider, Toni in About a Boy, and Claire in Igby Goes Down. The long-gestating drama “The Gilded Age,” which hails from “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes, has announced four members of its main cast.
Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Amanda Peet, and Morgan Spector have all been cast as series regulars in the drama project.
The series is set in the titular period of American history, beginning in 1882. It centers on young Marian Brook, the orphaned daughter of a Southern general, who moves into the home of her rigidly conventional aunts in New York City. Accompanied by the mysterious Peggy Scott, an African-American woman masquerading as her maid, Marian gets caught up in the dazzling lives of her stupendously rich neighbors, led by a ruthless railroad tycoon and his ambitious wife struggling for acceptance by the Astor and Vanderbilt set.

“Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again” could bring Cher her lucky seventh Golden Globe nomination. The well-reviewed film has raked in more than $350 million to date. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association loves to recognize box office hits almost as much as it loves a good comeback story. Cher hadn’t made a move in almost 10 years and makes quite the return to the screen in “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.” Her entrance is via helicopter and she looks smashing in a white suit and wig.
She plays Ruby Sheridan, the mother of Meryl Streep‘s character Donna who travels to the idyllic Greek isle to to support her granddaughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried‘) who is pregnant. Ruby has a dramatic reunion with her ex-lover, Fernando, played by Andy Garcia. That scene, in which they sing, er, “Fernando,” is one of the highlights of the movie.

Austen and the undead fail to raise laughs or shocks in a misfiring mashup
A damp-squib reception for Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in 2012 seemed at one point to have driven a stake through the heart of this long-gestating project. Now it finally arrives, helmed by Igby Goes Down director Burr Steers, who also wrote the screenplay from Al:vh author Seth Grahame-Smith’s 2009 bestseller. Sadly, Steers has solved few of the problems that have long made this mashup movie such a tricky balancing act. The 19th-century narrative imagines Britain as a walking graveyard and gives us combat-trained Bennet sisters with daggers in their garters who must navigate the treacherous waters of marriage proposals and costume balls while dispatching walking (and, irksomely, talking) corpses. Cinderella-star Lily James is well cast as the spirited Elizabeth, Sam Riley brings a touch of dourness to the role of Mr Darcy, Sally Phillips...

Zombie films are second only to slashers when it comes to the sheer volume of horror titles released each year, but as popular as they are very few of them seem to make it into theaters. The handful that avoid the direct-to-dvd fate typically feature something extra in the form of a big star (World War Z), a genre lean towards comedy (Zombieland), or an existing franchise (Resident Evil: Retribution). Pride and Prejudice and Zombies checks off one of those boxes — possibly even two if you consider the literary works of Jane Austen to be something of a highbrow franchise. Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James, Downton Abbey) and her four sisters are proper young Victorian ladies trained in both the fine arts and the martial arts — the better to charm the living and decapitate the living dead — and while their father (Charles Dance) is focused on teaching them survival skills their mom’s (Sally Phillips) primary concern is...

As a concept, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" is the sort of absurd brainstorm that won't just sit on the page. The phrase almost giggles for you; we were doomed to experience it the moment it became a repeatable thought. The 2009 novel by Seth Grahame-Smith reworks Jane Austen's 1813 novel just enough to amplify the heroic qualities of a few characters into modernity, with some social conflicts replaced with zombie battles. And ninjas. The book also has a bunch of ninjas. The ninjas didn't end up in this film, but the movie directed by Burr Steers ("Charlie St. Cloud," "Igby Goes Down") keeps much of the rest of the span of Grahame-Smith's revamp, with Lily James delivering a muscular and effective star performance as Elizabeth Bennet. "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" is not a particularly good zombie movie, and it is never an inventive one. Nor is it much of a comedy,...

More a concept than an actual novel, the 2009 best-seller “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” is merely the Jane Austen classic (which is in the public domain) with some brief zombie inserts by the writer Seth Grahame-Smith, best known for turning Abraham Lincoln into a vampire hunter. It’s just a silly title and a dumb passing idea, and now it is a movie written and directed by Burr Steers. Steers, a descendant of Aaron Burr and nephew of Gore Vidal, previously wrote and directed the literate “Igby Goes Down” before giving the world two Zac Efron vehicles, “17 Again” and...

Before he moved behind the camera to make movies like Igby Goes Down and the upcoming Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Burr Steers was actually an actor in Hollywood. and there.s a very good chance you vividly remember one of his scenes. This is one of the most iconic scenes of the film, and as a result modern cinema, however, there is one thing you may not know about it: Steers repeatedly messed up takes due to his animated reactions to the sequences. gunshots.
