'Teen' music movie made for TV
rodelleenterprises7 November 2006
A nice feel-good 'teen music' telemovie starring real-life mother and daughter: Olivia Newton-John and Chloe Lattanzi. A similar film to the 2003 US/UK co-production "I'll Be There" with Charlotte Church, Craig Ferguson and Jemma Redgrave. Jasmine Wilde (Olivia Newton-John) is a single parent. What her teenage daughter, Izzy (Chloe Lattanzi), doesn't know is that her mother was formerly a pop star. Izzy has musical ambitions of her own and, finding out the truth about her mother's past, she beings to get the courage to follow her own dreams. Olivia Newton-John and daughter Chloe Lattanzi get the opportunity to sing together in this television production.

Who is the singer?
ewok128 September 2003
Unlike most of the comments, I enjoyed the movie. It was the best and it wasn't the worst, but it was cute and delightful to watch. I also enjoyed the music that was in the movie and just wanted to know if that was Chloe Rose singer or not. And also is there a soundtrack to this movie? I would really enjoy that. Thanks

Doesn't get worse than this

I saw this on Showtime and I've always been a big fan of Olivia's work but I bet she wishes she never made this film. Poor acting, laughable script, and really bad plots. This is the story of a daughter trying to make it in the music industry and this is me whishing I had taken that sleeping pill.

Not Oliva's Best.
nikoel_s027 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
To be brutally honest I found this film to be flat. The acting at best was decent, even finding Swoozie the best actor in this film to be drowned under a disastrous script. The high point in 'Wilde Girls' would probably be when Oliva was singing 'Trust Youself' because she sung it beautifully even if this moment was brought down by the sheer cheesiness of it all. The worst part about this film would have to be the love story that happens. There is nothing there and the climax that it brought was saved only due to Swoozie skill to bring a bad script through. It made me cringe to think of the stupidity of the situation which was played out in such a grave nature. Overall this film I feel will only be enjoyable only for true Oliva die-hard fans. I wouldn't suggest watching it unless you have an Oliva shrine in your closet.

Del Shores has no talent

This is probably the worst thing I have ever seen in my entire life. If I was responsible for this mess I would have used John Smith. Oliva was walking through this role, her daughter is just "ok" with carrying a tune, Swoozie was not too bad, and the writing was dreadful. The story was unbelievably bad.

One word..AWFUL!
=G=17 November 2001
"The Wilde Girls" is about a single mom (ONJ), vet, and ex-singer with a talented 14 year old daughter (Lattanzi) and the daughter's long estranged father (Ehlers) and a kookie friend (Kurtz) and reconciliation and forgiveness and...and...and stuff. A kind of wholesome and sentimental flick with some pretty good singing and some pretty awful acting and direction and a really corny story. It's pretty difficult to pick apart a film which has ONJ singing with her kid or singing to puppies but this is, by cinematic standards, pretty awful stuff. Recommended for teen females and their moms.

one word....AWESOME!!

Chloe Rose is great! Her acting and her singing were much much better than I had expected. Olivia did a wonderful job. I think this is her best role yet. This is a must see for all Olivia fans....actually, for everyone. Swoosie was hilarious. The music was awesome. I cannot get the songs out of my head. I wish there was a soundtrack!!!

You'll have a Wilde time enjoying this movie

Warning: Spoilers
Good movie. HUGE ONJ fan and her daughter was fab in this movie too as well as A Christmas Romance. Character Sierra was funny and relatable. I'm sure ONJ did some reminiscing of her own whilst making this movie. Tried so hard to get this on home video or DVD. No luck. I think it's available to buy in Pan Asia.

Very apt role for ONJ been an animal and nature lover her character is a Vet of some sort! I reckon she came up that role herself as she is also Ex Producer of this movie!

Chloe should make more movies as she's very talented. I've seen her (movie speaking ) transition from little girl to teen to adult on the silver screen. More roles for Chloe please.

This isn't a masterpiece but one for ONJ/CHLOE fans. Loving the house too. Talent certainly runs in this family.

Want to see more of Livvy&Chloe in a 'happy happy' movie with very little drama.

It is what it is.

This is a pleasant film. I can't imagine anyone hating it or loving it. It is jarring to see Olivia and Chloe have such harsh words for each other's characters in their arguments, but that's as high as the stakes get. We know Izzy's not going to get in any major trouble in L.A., and we know her father isn't going to turn out to be horrible man. Therefore, Swoosie Kurtz's character ends up providing "comic relief" where not much relief is needed. Maybe a wackier story line would have been if Jasmine had a son and he went off to L.A. to be a drag queen, but that wouldn't have been a showcase for Chloe. So what we have is a kinda funny, kinda dramatic mother-daughter story with music as a backdrop. This film may not be gripping or hilarious, but the target audience (pre-teen girls, Olivia fans, gay men) will find it enjoyable, and most others should find something to like about it. A few of them might even view it again.

I loved this movie
mindylangevin15 March 2022
Maybe because ONJ has been my idol since I was a little girl but I loved this movie. I was watching the ONJ This is your life show and just saw that Wilde girls even existed. It sure wasn't promoted enough 20 years ago. I think that thecasting was great and I believe the acting was first rate. Obviously, it's not an Academy Award winner, it's not meant to be but it's a fun movie!!!

Good flick!

This comment is for the above comments from DAVID and GEORGE. First off, I used to go anti-private investigator meetings. You know what our motto was George and David? Our motto was "Don't be a dick". Now, as for "The Wilde Girls", what were you expecting? Action and people getting shot in their heads? This is a movie with Olivia Newton John and her Daughter Chloe for God's sakes! You expect things like singing to animals and occasional mushiness! You guys, freeking shape up, cuz we don't need you men! LOL

Banal Tripe
orgel_d28 November 2001
I felt the need to add a bit of perspective to the single "awesome" comment. I watched this film because I had absolutely nothing better to do, and I 'm compelled to say that it's one of the worst things I've ever seen. The plot is hackneyed, the dialog is trite, and the acting is mediocre (with the exception of Swoosie Kurtz's -- I hope she got paid a lot to associate herself with a project of this nature). There's also a bunch of cheesy locations, poorly used.

Chloe Lattanzi, while possessed of modest musical and acting capabilities, lacks the prettiness her mother possessed in her prime. It's clear that this is film is intended as a vehicle for Chloe, and it's equally clear that it's a quixotic attempt.

There's really only one original song, repeated ad infinitum, and it was apparently composed by Olivia. If you think "I Honestly Love You" is a pop landmark, then you'll find this tune delightful. There's also a cover of "Rockin' Robin," which is ... okay.

This one is for diehard Olivia Newton-John fans only. Others will be better off watching Dukes of Hazzard reruns.

Cheesy but harmless
grabyourumbrella12 August 2004
This isn't a great film, I'll admit, but I have seen worse.

My only issue with this film is that Chloe Rose, the girl who plays the singer in the film, really isn't a very good singer - I find her Mariah Carey-esque warbling a bit grating. Still, she plays the part quite well and luckily there isn't too much singing.

Olivia Newton-John doesn't do herself justice in this role - but not every part can match Sandy in Grease I suppose, and she does do okay in it. I much prefer her singing to that of Chloe Rose's.

It is a bit of a generalization, but I would suggest this is a nice film to be watched by a mother and daughter - a silly, light-hearted film, semi-dramatic and quite heart-warming. Don't expect much or look at it too critically - it is only 90 minutes long and it is nice enough.
