Highlander meets Forever Knight
Johnny_West26 July 2020
When I found this show, I thought it would be pretty good, since Adrian Paul had been The Highlander for many years, and his nemesis was Zin, played by Geraint Win Davis. Davis had been Detective Knight on one of my favorite shows, Forever Knight, about a vampire who is a police detective.

Highlander and Forever Knight were both good action, science fiction (and horror) shows. These were two good actors, what could go wrong? Unfortunately, Zin the evil alien (played by Davis) is not on very often. Usually he is shown making a phone call to one of his alien lackeys, and then the show centers around The Tracker (Adrian Paul) capturing the alien henchmen.

Adrian Paul is a tracker from another planet, sent to capture 218 escaped alien criminals. Paul's soul takes over a poster on the side of the road, and so he spends most of the first season acting like someone without a brain, because he is basically a piece of cardboard. Adrian Paul always has a dumb look on his face and his mouth open. He also walks around very awkwardly, because he does not know how to walk. All this stuff was funny in the first episode, but it needed to go away quickly, and it did not.

Paul has a couple of powers. One of them allows him to walk fast. That is a really dumb power, but it is only used occasionally, even though he is always chasing people. The other power allows him to freeze everyone and walk around them. That is useful for catching villains, but it is not used most of the time when he needs to catch a villain. What is the point of having any powers if you only use them occasionally?

The dynamics between Paul and the supporting characters are not explored very far. There is not much character development between Paul and the rest of the cast. His main supporting character is Mel, played by Amy Price Francis. For some reason, the writers kept them from having any meaningful relationship, so why was she supporting Cole/Daggon (Paul), giving him a place to live, and paying all his bills? Apparently they wanted Paul to stay in the man-child mode, and so Mel was attracted to him, but she treated him like a child or little brother who needed guidance. That was all kind of lame.

The alien-of-the week stories were sometimes pretty good. A lot of times way too much time was spent with Adrian Paul learning how to play a radio or do some other easy task. The writers that thought it was interesting to watch a forty year old man learning how to brush his teeth, really killed any momentum this show could get.

One minute it was interesting, then the next ten the pace stopped while Adrian Paul had a dumb conversation with someone (how do I eat corn? what is soccer?). We get that he is an alien soul who took over a cardboard underwear poster. It did not have to get hammered into every story.

This show had potential, but the focus on how dumb and innocent Adrian Paul was, really killed it. The dork walking, the silly facial expressions, the goofy remarks, it all got old very fast.

Highlander revisited
Mikew300123 June 2006
Once there was a time - in the nineties of the last century - when a supernatural fighter, armed with a sword and long hair and played by Adrian Paul - took the heritage of "Highlander" Christopher Lambert and fought supernatural enemies on earth in a TV Series of the same name.

Ten years later on, the same actor, this time with short hair and without the sword, has to track down more supernatural enemies again on TV. This time, he's the "Tracker", comes from another time and space again, and has a super brain, super weapons and super power and tracks down several gangsters and killers with the same attributes all over the country... again, he's accompanied by some good-looking earthy Blondes and has to face the weirdest enemies in hard-fought fights after 45 minutes.

While the "Highlander" TV series was a big hit in Germany and was broadcast on RTL Television at prime time, "Tracker" runs on a smaller station early in the morning at 5am. It looks like a sci-fi remix of "Highlander" with some elements of "The X-Files", "Profiler", "Quantum Leap" and also with some "Star Trek" and cyberspace utopia. But all in all, it's a nice and entertaining series with some good ideas and a relaxed and cool Adrian Paul, whose biggest success will always be the long-haired man with the sword from the hills...

A good idea, poorly executed
xbatgirl-300294 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Adding my 2 cents to the mix: I watched this when it first aired and just watched again. In the end, I think it's a shame that this really good concept for a show, which could have lasted several seasons, never got a proper chance. The show runners are totally to blame for squandering this opportunity.

Firstly, the writing was very mediocre. You can't blame the time period because there was certainly plenty of well written, entertaining shows of this type throughout the decade prior to this. The alien of the week plots and action was decent. That was their strength. The weakness was all the terrible attempts at comedy and side characters living their mundane lives. Way too much of each episode was devoted to this stuff. Truly, they had no idea what they were doing. Ridiculous dialogue, 2 dimensional people, cringeworthy slapstick. I'm sure it wasn't the case, but it presents like the scripts were turned out by a group of early twenty something dude bros, who had spent years watching action movies but knew nothing about the real world or any type of adult relationships, especially concerning women who were not acting in porn. I know it's harsh, but this is why the show failed.

Obviously, Adrain Paul was a great choice to play Cole. He's the sole reason anyone watched the show and he makes it worth it. He got a great chance to show his acting skills by playing someone so different from Duncan MacLeod yet he's still charismatic and funny when called for while also believable in action scenes. I wish he had gotten more prominent roles since this went off the air.

But let's just say Amy Price Francis was very much miscast to play the already brittle, anxious Mel. Her character reminds me of a chihuahua - all big eyes, very skinny, and trembling nerves. I tolerated her character but never warmed to her. She was written and played mainly like a stressed out, exasperated, overbearing mother to everyone around her. She was never remotely believable as what we were told (but never shown) to be an intelligent and grown up business owner.

Jess was also a big mistake, which even the producers figured out by eventually writing her out, but I'm sure by then, only a few such as myself were still watching. The damage was done. Once again, writers and producers seemed to only have interest in and knowledge of women from porn. The less said the better.

There was some good. Geraint Wyn Davies was perfect as Zinn. If the show got a season 2, there definitely was an opening for him to return. I even thought Dean McDermott was good as the sometimes helpful cop who was jealous of Cole. Too bad Mel had even less chemistry with him than she did with Cole. Nestor character improved and got less annoying as the season went on. It was a good idea to increase his role as an ally for Cole to go on missions with.

If they got a season 2, it did seem like changes were going to be made, after giving the bar to Nestor and Cole taking off with Mel. But unless all the writers were fired, no change of scenery would have been enough. As I said at the start, someone had some good ideas, but they sadly were wasted.

Worth watching....
JALETOL-117 March 2002
Each episode is better than the previous one. It has been well planned and scripted. Worth watching. There is adventure, laughter, drama, comedy. Tracker is based on a story written by Gil Grant. Accordingly, 218 aliens (from other planets) enter earth thru a wormhole, land in Chicago. You do not see the aliens as creatures, since they were light beams and have taken over 218 human host bodies. The Tracker (played by Adrian Paul) did not take a human host, but rather transformed into a human body after viewing a advertisement on board. When he captures an alien, he doesn't kill just takes the light beam from the host body. There are fights, but no killing. I am not to good with words, but I can say that I enjoy this series tremenously. If you wish for a different type of show, give this one a chance, you will not regret it.

Good for a binge weekend watch
dbre29 July 2021
If you are a binge watcher you should enjoy this series. People are comparing it to highlander. I came in not having watched much of the highlander series (except the movies) so my view wasn't tainted by it.

The series wasn't bad. The early '00s SFX was what it was but the series progressed pretty well and the shows were logical and put together thoughtfully. There was not much disbelief to suspend.

There was a nice amount of humor and a lot of humanity in the show which is I guess a bit ironic. It was a bit of a 'pretty people' show but if you like pretty people then there is that for you too.

The only negative part is that, near the end, you kind of got the impression they got the bad news or were saving on money because they focused on previous episodes. This was a bit tedious but at least they tied the end together and left something at the end to open the door for future potential. So it ended cleanly and we might see it in the future.

Bottom line: Logical and bingeable.

Highlander Retardo
panzerstein30 July 2020
Adrian Paul pretends to be brain dead in Tracker. He is an alien soul that gets sent from planet Uranus to track down 218 escaped criminals. While the other aliens inhabit living human bodies, Adrian Paul possesses a cardboard advertising poster on the side of the road. So he starts out brainless, and it gets worse from there.

When Paul takes over the cardboard poster, he makes it into a three dimensional being. How he creates flesh and blood out of cardboard is never discussed. However, Paul has no brain, so he walks like a toy robot, and he always has his mouth open, and tries his best to look mentally defective. Paul is great as a moron, but not very good as a tracker.

Most of the criminals take advantage of his mental deficiency and get away or beat him up in every episode. Eventually Paul tracks them down, walking like the Frankenstein Monster on LSD. Very funny in a very pathetic way. What was Adrian Paul thinking?

Paul has an alien criminal sidekick, Nestov, who is the most racially offensive stereotype that I have ever seen on TV. Imagine Huggy Bear from Starsky & Hutch, or Jar-Jar Binks from Star Wars Phantom Menace, but even worse. It is hard to watch when that guy is on. It is offensive on numerous levels. Adrian Paul also treats the guy in a very condescending manner, which just adds to the racists overtones.

The rest of the cast is wooden. Mel plays the woman who finds him on the road. She takes him home in spite of the bizarre and creepy behavior. She gives him a place to live, and lets Paul destroy all her electric appliances so that he can customize them into alien tracking systems. Just a totally ridiculous relationship. Because Adrian Paul has the personality of a four year old boy, Mel treats him like a child, and the relationship between them is weird in a sicko way.

The TV series is just horrible. There are some good episodes with interesting aliens and ideas, but most of it is some kind of romance sit-com without any romance, because the lead guy is brain dead.

Aliens, humor and action
trepessa28 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't see this show when it originally aired but I'm watching it now. People should stop using the word cliché because the romance issue the way they are showing it fits the story. There rarely is any idea that hasn't been tried in movies and/or television. We have had these mediums for a long time. One has to see how the idea is portrayed now and people need to quit comparing shows to other shows. This one is nothing like any other I have seen. Some didn't get the fact that Adrian Paul played his character slightly wooden because he wasn't comfortable in the human body. He was different than a human and he didn't know what a lot of things meant. Would you in the same situation? I like the science fiction angle, the romance not yet consummated, the range of the stories and the way all of the cast fit together well. I think it was a big mistake to cancel the show but this cable network is notorious for canceling the wrong shows and keeping others that aren't that good. This one should have gone at least another season but it didn't and that's a big shame. Loved it.

Misses the Mark
karenlynn127 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I had high hopes for Highlander star Adrian Paul's new series when I had first heard about it. I had very high hopes that he'd have success equal to--or greater than--Highlander:The Series.

My biggest disappointment was in how wooden Paul's performance of Cole was; and how cliché the underlying romance between "Cole" and the Mel seemed.

"Cole" was an alien tracker, sent to rid the earth of evil aliens disguised as humans. Unlike the evil aliens who kill each human that they commandeer the body off, Cole steals the likeness of a picture on the billboard. A gorgeous male underwear model. As he's running down the road, completely oblivious to the fact that he should be wearing clothing, he is picked up by the lovely blonde Mel. Yeah, I know. DOn't pick up hitchhikers--especially nekkid ones.

Each episode--correct me if I'm wrong--always seemed to be 1/2 about Mel and Cole and their underlying feelings, and her teaching him to act more human. The other half was about him absorbing the life forces of his enemies into this little octagon shaped device.

It's an okay SciFi series. Not great, just Okay. But not nearly as great as Highlander: The Series, and nowhere near as wonderful as Farscape.

A lot of people comparing to highlander
lavender23026722 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of people comparing to highlander. Which is unfair. This is a totally unfair it is a completely different genre. I think that Adrian Paul did a brilliant job.

People assume that aliens who come to earth can automatically speak and understand English.

Adrian Paul plays an alien entity that transforms into a human, using an image on a billboard. So obviously he's not going to know how the human body and speech works.

I'm disappointed they only did one season.

Give it a go. Do not judge it on one episode see how he transforms himself into a functioning human.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Most ridiculous inserted add in a TV show!
f-abdolian-481-41457128 December 2022
I watched it again after many years, just to have some laugh.

It is really like a bollywood made show with special effects without CGI. The use the old style slow motion to make it more exciting and I was surprised they didn't add some sparkles or splash like Marvel movies.

My absolute favorite laughing moment was when Tracker asked Zin "why earth", in which he answered, "it is because 1-800-COLLECT, do you know how much I have saved".

It had absolutely nothing to the story line or the plot, it was just a ridiculous dialog to advertise that service (previously, he was shown using a pager, with 1-800-COLLECT on it, sending a SMS).

Overall, it is an entertaining show if you just want to have fun.

Never trust a Vardian
phbalanced12 April 2005
Though only one season in length, this Toronto-produced series tidied everything up in the end so viewers weren't left hanging waiting for a new season that never happened. Compared to The Highlander TV series, Adrian Paul is much different in this role as the energy sustained alien called a Cirronian. Interesting set of aliens which take the form of everyday human beings which AP's character Cole Hauser hunts down including ones that can disappear, others which need water to survive, and the most evil race called Vardians, one of which was played by Geraint Wyn Davies. An okay supporting cast of characters led by restauranteur Mel Porter and her side-kick Jess Brown, though the latter was written out midway through the season and replaced by a chatterbox yet comical alien named Nestov who was a Dessarian. Due to the cancellation of the series, the relationship between the two main leads didn't develop into anything more than just friendship. And isn't that a shame, since Cole was a fast learner. Good effort by Adrian Paul who combined a great sense of humour in his role of an alien learning to be human while battling aliens with the usual sci-fi stuff. And if you're lucky enough to be watching the series on Canadian TV, look for a behind-the-scenes featurette with commentary by some of the writers and director David Wu.

Highlander With a Brain Injury
docm-3230420 January 2021
When the women referred to him as Forrest Gump in the first episode, they weren't kidding. I really loved Adrian Paul in Highlander and thought this series would show his fighting skills and commanding presence, but instead we got this wooden character who dresses like a homeless man and walks like Herman Munster. I had to check to see if this series was before Highlander as Adrian Paul is just so bad in this one. There have been many sci fi series where aliens had to learn about being human, but they all learned in leaps and bounds ahead of this idiot. The fact that he is from an advanced race does not come across in his learning, mannerisms or really anything in his character. Too bad, I was looking forward to this series, especially because it also features stand alone episodes .

Wow this Starman Wanna Be Is Truly Bad Even For This Production
FishBibble3 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This production house produced some horrible tv in the late 90's, early 2000's, living off successes like Highlander the tv Series, they turned out one bad scripts and bad camera work, after another.

But this one was truly terrible. Seems like Adrial Paul thought he could act as good as Jeff Bridges who made the part seem lovable and cute, where as Adrial comes across as creepy and more creepy... yea, not surpised this one didn't have the success of their highlander serious previously...

Enjoyed!!
cpmktzstk13 February 2024
I really enjoyed watching this show!! I enjoy watching a program that lays out a problem and then a successful resolution happens at the end!!!! Yes, there are a number of twist & turns to get though the program! But we all like the successful resolution of the problem that started the whole problem laid out. And it may be like a number of other programs on TV, but that happens to be what I like!! No one wants to see a bad outcome in the end!! There are other series for those who like other type of programming, but they can watch their show and I will continue to watch what I like!! Please continue this program!!!!

I am a fan of Adrian Paul, so when I started watching Tracker, it was because of Adrian. But each show got better and better, and I loved the way they developed the characters and the overall premise of the program. I was disappointed when it wasn't picked up for a second season, because there was so much promise! However, thankfully, we can still see the show in re runs!

Good show, improving with each episode
Sheeza3 December 2001
I will admit that I am an Adrian Paul fan. I also love Science Fiction in books, film, and television. While this show may not be unique in idea, it does bring new things that haven't been utilized in other shows of its type.

Tracker starts out sort of rough, and doesn't answer many questions. But if you stick with it, those questions do get answered. Each episode explores Cole and Zin a little bit more than the week before.

The actors work well together. We all would love to see a show that feels like it is in its third season when it has really only just begun. Many television shows don't start out all that great, but then come into their own as they grow together as a cast and the story starts to unfold.

Give Tracker a shot. There are funny moments and great effects.

I was a fan of the Highlander series and definitely a fan of Adrian Paul. When it was announced that he was going to be in new series, I thought it was about time, he had been off the radar long enough. I anxiously awaited the premiere of this show. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

Unless just being able to look at Adrian Paul is enough to placate you as a viewer for an hour, this show was not worth the time it took to watch it. He didn't act, he just hung out in front of the camera. The other "actors" in the series need to hone their skills a little more. The premise, writing, sets, direction...all subpar. Skip this.

Disappointing
Venus-2528 October 2001
I love to look at Adrian Paul, but I truly think his talents are wasted here. It does not look as though this series will make use of his better athletic abilities, and we will have to wait at least several episodes before his sex appeal will be truly employed. This prime asset is severely underutilized in a character who is terribly naive and clearly a fish out of water. If we are to believe that he possesses the intelligence to do what he is supposed to do, he will have to learn a lot of things awfully fast. It's as though he is trying too hard NOT to be Duncan MacLeod.

The premise of the series is a little too much like "Brimstone" but without the darkness and without the appropriately menacing adversary. The villains will be cartoonish and the stories will be formulaic. Diehard fans of Adrian Paul and Geraint Wyn-Davies will tune in, but this program needs a lot of work before it comes up to the level of these two actors, who certainly deserve better material.

Surprisingly low-key "thriller"
budikavlan30 June 2002
Rather blah if otherwise well-made sci-fi vehicle for "Highlander" star Adrian Paul. He's in control here, and this series was seemingly constructed around his personal charm, but to this point he's evidently shooting for subtlety. The performances aren't really bad, but bland; if the cast is holding back some "oomph" to be revealed later, one can only hope the show isn't cancelled before they get the chance. The action and suspense are low-key as well. And leaving aside the set-up and a couple of gadgets, there's very little in the way of science fiction present. I can't really say I dislike the show, but the producers had better hope it's not scheduled against very strong competition (it comes on at 2AM Sunday here).

Good Film for a Jockey Commercial
whpratt12 September 2005
This was a very entertaining TV series and Adrian Paul( Cole/Daggon),"The Breed",'01, was in complete control as the Tracker and started off in the film walking down the road as big as life in only Jockey briefs and Amy Price Frances(Mel Porter),"Our Fathers",'05 TV had her eyes almost pop out looking at this image of a man heading towards her. Mel manages to take him under her wing and eventually finds out what he is trying to do as an Alien Tracker. There are many fascinating fight scenes among fellow aliens and you at times, just wonder how the film will ever end, or if the tracker will accomplish his mission. If you like mild Sci-Fi and enjoy Adrian Paul and Amy Price Frances talents, this is the film for you to enjoy. There are even some very comical scenes with pin ups and an alien who looks like a hot sexy Pin UP with lots of curves in all the right places

I hope its around for a while
dunknluvr3 December 2001
I recently watched episode six, "The Beast" -- very good show. I can say that this series started out well and has only gotten better each week. I've liked the evolution of Adrian Paul's character, Cole. He truly started out as a "fish out of water" having to learn the very basic of human ways. Adrian Paul has brought just the right mix of innocence and intelligence to this character. The character comes more into its own each week. And, the chemistry between Cole and Mel (Amy Price-Francis) is wonderful. Jess is also good. I think her character gives the average person's perspective on what's going on. She doesn't know that Cole is an alien at this point and she reacts to him and his behaviors the way I think most people would. I've liked the story lines of each episode, but I like even better the time and attention given to character development. Anyone who hasn't seen this show, should. I hope its around for a while.

Adrian Paul really out did himself in Tracker. I grew up watching him as Duncan MacLeod on "Highlander, the series", but on Tracker he made it like Final Fantasy/Matrix. This is one of his greatest installments and all i have to say is keep it going, Adrian.
