Just rely on your video game experience
unbrokenmetal17 March 2006
The second movie by the two Bavarian comedians, Erkan and Stefan. They discover an ancient dagger and free the beautiful warrior virgin Tana (Bettina Zimmermann) from it. Evil sorcerer Kartan, however, wants both the dagger and the virgin for a sacrifice ceremony. Erkan and Stefan rely on their video game experience to defeat the dark forces. At a length of only 77 minutes, the movie doesn't slow down too often between the gags, so if you have got the appropriate sense of humor, you may find this quite enjoyable. Excellent: Corinna Harfouch as the teacher who breaks her own rules to solve problems without violence. On the other hand, the performance of Bettina Zimmermann is disappointing. One needs more than wildly rolling eyes to follow the footsteps of a Michelle Yeoh or Sandahl Bergman. The parody elements are reminding me of movies like Stephen Sommers' "The Mummy", Harold Ramis' "Bedazzled" and J. Lee Thompson's "Firewalker", among others.

Two idiots against the forces of darkness Warning: Spoilers
The first "Erkan & Stefan" movie was successful enough, so they made another one, this one here, two years later and even a couple years later also a third movie. Axel Sand directed his first feature film ever here as Michael (Bully) Herbig, one of Germany's most famous comedians, did not return to direct this movie (just like with Wickie), but the writers are still the same like in movie one and also got help from the Erkan & Stefan actors as co-writers. All in all, they tried to go with the ingredients from the first. The two protagonists save an attractive woman on uncountable occasions and also save the world (peace) while they are at it. I mostly preferred the first film, but one exception is the female main role as I personally find Bettina Zimmermann (who dated one of the lead actors for a while) much more attractive than Alex Neldel. Both aren't really great actresses though. Apart from these, you may also have heart of Herforth, Harfouch and Hollinderbäumer if you like German films. Also, Rick Kavanian, one of Herbig's closest friends and colleagues plays in this sequel.

I always thought Stefan is the funnier of the duo, but both really aren't that much entertaining. Also, the acting is downright pathetic at times. They try to hide it as a big part of the film is actually over the top and fake because of the genre and the protagonists' approach to comedy, but yet it's pretty obvious the two lead actors are not gifted at all in terms of range. Anyway, here they take care of a mystic dagger and go against a dangerous Egyptian cult and this film is at least partially inspired by the "Mummy" movies. I don't recommend watching it. Also check out my review for the first Erkan & Stefan movie and soon I will probably watch and review the third and final installment too. Until then, peace out.
