Poor Kylie Minogue, if she only knew what she appeared on...
The star and host of this show, H.C.Andersen (not to be confused with the famous author:) did a good job as a VJ on Norway's biggest channel, NRK. Then he was apparently headhunted to Norway's second-largest channel TV2, and together with stand-up comedian Tommy Steine he created the formula for his very own Friday night talk show.
The result was to put it mildly, a major disappointment. The reason not being the formula, since it is basically the same as that of Conan O'Brien's superb LATE NIGHT (without the band), and certainly not being the talented Tommy Steine. No, the defect is so obvious that only a blind deaf-mute could fail to see it:
H. C. Andersen.
When it comes to hosting a talk show the man has NO talent what-so-ever! I was shocked to learn TV2 actually paid the man 1 million kroners (about $100,000) for hosting the first season! All though Andersen at times bares a startling resemblance to the great Conan O'Brien, he is far from it. For starters Andersen lacks:
1. The charisma
2. The humour
3. The talent
(not mentioning the fact that he has only one facial expression)
He is clearly a nice guy, but all he ever does is just sit there and look pretty, trying so hard every week to rise above mediocrety. Well at least he tries, and thank God he has the assistance of Tommy Steine who has EVERYTHING Andersen lacks. Steine is full of charisma and best of all: a dead-pan humour that works great alongside his "I'm God's gift to women"-attitude. The man can come up with the greatest one-liners at the blink of an eye, and he even has a great singing voice!
At the beginning of each program it is downright ludicrous when Steine (the real star of the show) walks out and THEN introduces Andersen as if HE was the reason you where tuning in! Yeah, sure.
Had this been the U.S. Andersen would be back presenting music videos on NRK and Steine would get his own show, but it isn't, it's Norway: a country so stupid that when the national soccer team failed to qualify for the World Cup and delivered the worst results in a decade, they renewed the coach's contract with another 5 years!
