So is there a plane stage or what?

This game was cool back in the day. You are a car with a machine guns blasting bad guys off the road. A truck periodically comes up and you drive into it and get even more power ups: a smoke screen, oil slick and missiles! If you can make all the right turns you can even enter into the spy boat! The cover of the NES game seems to indicate you can even play as a plane, however, I rarely made it to the boat stage and when I did I usually ended up dying right away as I was usually down to my last life. The road hazards are many as you have cars constantly trying to bash you off the road, shoot you and generally make your trip less pleasant. All these hazards make me wonder, why did they not include some armor onto the spy hunter car? Do not tell me it would of effected its speed as most of the other cars were faster than the spy hunter car including the semi! Still, it was fun, especially at the arcade and on the NES it was a nice rental when rented with a couple of other games. I could not imagine continually playing this one over and over without a break. I just wonder if you could become a plane after the boat or was that picture on the cover simply there to trick us?

The first arcade game I ever played
CuriosityKilledShawn25 October 2013
I remember perfectly the day I discovered Spy Hunter in the corner of the Hawes Inn. Video games were still in their infancy back then and Spy Hunter looked quite advanced for its time (to me). I was fascinated by the long road with its top-down perspective. Where did it go? How long did it go on for? I was terrible at the game (and I fared little better at the Commodore 64 version later on), but that didn't mean I didn't enjoy playing it. From a 2013 viewpoint it has dated a bit, though it still holds up as nothing more than an enjoyable way to spend 10 minutes. I'm not too keen on the gear shifting though as 2nd gear almost certainly leads to instant death.

There was talk of a movie version of the game a while back, directed by John Woo and starring The Rock. Exactly WHAT this would be about is beyond me as the premise of the game (drive and shoot) is about as thin as it gets. The game couldn't even be bothered to make up its own theme tune and instead uses the Peter Gunn theme by Henry Mancini.

Probably one the top 10 classic arcade games.

Spy Hunter!

Spy Hunter is one of the one of the coolest action video games! The characters, the action, and the sure thrill of adventure makes this game a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!

Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful especially for the first Nintendo. The backgrounds are really beautiful! Difficulty: The game is easy but as it goes on you find out that it will become more difficult!

Music: The music is great! Just fantastic catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!

Sound: The sound is great. Nuff said!

Overall: I have always loved Spy Hunter! If you like excellent adventure games, racing, shooting and more then I strongly recommend you play this game!
