No Toys and No Boys(almost)
openers25 June 2007
Guys aren't going to think there's "enough" in this movie(no toys, one boy...later), but I guess that's to be expected in a movie more designed to drive women over the edge.

Andrew Blake is a master of erotic imagery, not porn. Any idiot can shoot people doin' the nasty, but Blake has a style that permeates his work and as a piece of erotica this stands very high on the list.

In discussions with lady-friends I have devised the axiom "Toys are for boys", meaning that women use them only because men basically demand it of them. Quite a few women would be quite pleased at the prospect of sex without having something artificial stuck in them, particularly mechanized plastic.

As a lesbian-fantasy movie this is a powerhouse. Blake uses his knowledge of framing, pacing, lighting, erotic imagery and his understanding of the feminine psyche to the fullest effect. If you doubt how well this goal was achieved, ask a woman to sit through it and give you her opinion (once she stops panting).

Most "porn" seems to have the simple goal of "stick something in there!". Doesn't matter what it is... foreign objects, feet, fists, inflatable scary s**t... Think about what it must be like on the receiving end, then, think about the picture presented in this erotic, sensual, loving masterpiece.

Andrew Blake's "Blond And Brunettes" is the type of movie that will make your wife seriously consider.....

9+/10 - 'cause perfect is just too hard to come by.

Not Blake at his best

Rented the video and was sorely disappointed. I am a fan of Blake's artistic inclinations. But, this film was boring.

Yes, the film won AVN awards for cinematography and art. But, the direction seemed pointless. The sex was not gripping.

One of Blake's strengths is that he is willing to explore the beauty of the female form in a leisurely manner. Unfortunately, I found that this film over-emphasized the opulence of the larger actresses.

Among Blake's lesbian films, I much prefer the film Dark Angel (1997) which had delicious situations. IMO, the most erotic and subversive of Blake's film is still Les Femmes érotiques (1993).

I suggest that you rent the video for a preview before buying.

# 38 : Pets of the month & Pets of the year (dvd)

This is the exception that proves the rule which says that Blake's movies are awful. So, this one is at last watchable as for once, Blake changed his rules : no more the brightly illuminated and very cold American mansion, no more the frozen Miss Grey, no more the prude heterosexual sequences in which nothing happens. Sure, there is still the insipid soundtrack, it's more about massages than sex but Blake here went to Rome and has called 3 Penthouse Pets : Kyla Cole + Aria Giovanni + Kelle Marie. With Anita and the bunch dressed for one time without baroque erotic lingerie, the movie finishes to become interesting !
