Nova Aliança's look is based on the cities of Ouro Preto, São João Del Rei and Tiradentes in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The local college campus was modeled after the UFRRJ campus in Rio de Janeiro.
Helena Ranaldi broke her nose during a fight scene between Helena Ranaldi and Bruno Garcia's characters. She was assisted by famed plastic surgeon Ivo Pitanguy.
Most of its cast was brought in from "Dance of Life", a canceled series which would deal with politics, but was deemed inappropriate for election times.
Letícia Spiller was first considered for the role that went to Carolina Kasting, but she was cast on the following series The Taste of Passion (2002). Spiller bears a slight resemblance to Pedro Malta, who would play her son. Gabriela Duarte turned the role down to be on Esperança (2002).
Marília Passos's acting debut on television. After a couple more roles on Globo TV, she left acting out of disenchantment and is now an accomplished writer.
