Updated with statement from Rose’s attorney: A new lawsuit accuses Guns ‘N Roses singer Axl Rose of sexual assault and battery over an alleged attack in a Manhattan hotel suite in 1989.
Sheila Kennedy’s suit claims she “suffered severe emotional, physical, financial and psychological distress” when Rose (real name William Bailey) “used his fame, status, and power as a celebrity and performer in the music industry to gain access to manipulate, control, and violently sexually assault” her.
The case was filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which provides a one-year window for sexual assault plaintiffs to file civil claims, regardless of the statute of limitations. That window closes on Thursday.
“Simply put, this incident never happened,” said Rose’s attorney, Alan S. Gutman of Gutman Law. “Notably, these fictional claims were filed the day before the New York State filing deadline expires. Though he doesn’t deny...

For 15 years now, metal mainstayers God Forbid have been delivering their brand of metal. Firstly and foremost loved by their fans for the stellar guitar-work we witness on each new album, God Forbid also trap infectious choruses, grooving and punishing rhythm sections, and venomous yet catchy vocals within their sound.
The band first really came to attention at the tail end of the 90’s mainly by touring with such bands as Gwar, Nile, Cradle of Filth and Candiria but also because of the release of their first full album, Reject The Sickness, in 1999. The album received a lot of heavy air-play, resulting in a lot of new fans for the band, and also for their introduction to the metal community to truly take off. After the release of this album, they were signed by Century Media Records and released the 2001 album,...

In celebration of Nevermind's 20th anniversary, Riki Rachtman recalls Nirvana's most notorious MTV appearance.

Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic appear on "Headbangers Ball" in 1991

On October 25, 1991, with their Nevermind album only a month old but already gaining traction and the video for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" beginning to turn the world on its ear, Nirvana appeared on MTV's flagship metal show "Headbangers Ball" for an interview that would become legendary — mostly for all the wrong reasons.
As they made abundantly clear during their stint on the show, Nirvana considered "Headbangers" to be the epicenter of everything they considered evil: the teased-and-tousled, tough-guys-and-tanned-babes world of mainstream metal. As if barely feigning interest wasn't proof of this point, one only had to look at the canary-yellow ball gown Kurt Cobain threw on for the occasion. It was about as un-metal (and...

Grunge rockers move past their acrimonious breakup to do a handful of festival dates.

After quite a bit of speculation and years of saying "never," Soundgarden have announced that they are getting back together to do a handful of festival dates this year.
It's been nearly 13 years since the band was onstage together, though we've hardly missed many of the members — frontman Chris Cornell embarked on a solo career and fronted Audioslave, drummer Matt Cameron took up sticks with Pearl Jam, bassist Ben Shepherd recorded with a handful of people and guitarist Kim Thayil could be seen skateboarding around Seattle.
Soundgarden are considered one of the "big four" of the grunge era (along with fellow Seattle-ites Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains). While their sound merged king-size heavy metal with gritty garage punk, the group always seemed to be channeling...

Currently on the road in the final stages of the Hed to Head tour, Fangoria Musick caught up with Jeffrey Nothing and Stitch from Mushroomhead for an update from the road. Fango fiends may recall when the band performed at our Chicago stop on this year's FangoCon tour, where the hotel was shaken (literally) by the Ohio band. We hit Stitch and Nothing with Ten Questions...
1. First off give me an idea what it’s been like for Mushroomhead throughout the years. There have been some lineup changes, some label changes, some hard earned success. A lot of good and bad over the years - give me some insight into your ventures, and where they’ve brought you today.
Jeffrey Nothing: We are the poster children for the phrase; "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!" After all in the end, all we have is each other and even though...

MTV celebrates an important moment in its history this week: 17 years ago, Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain” premiered on “Headbangers Ball.” Since the video dropped in 1992, plenty has changed: Axl Rose has hired and fired dozens of bandmembers (finally releasing the long-awaiting Chinese Democracy last year) and Slash has gone from solo artist to Velvet Revolver axeman. One thing hasn’t changed, though: “November Rain” is still as inexplicable as it was when it first aired on MTV. If you haven’t seen it, take the time to enjoy all 9 minutes of Axl’s magnum opus, and then check out all the things you might have missed about it.
» “November Rain” was directed by a gentleman named Andy Morahan, whose résumé includes two other Guns clips (”Don’t Cry” and “Estranged”), many videos for other artists (Michael Jackson’s “Give in to Me,” George Michael’s “Faith,” Bryan Adams’ “(Everything...

When people ask me to ramble off the names of my favorite bands, there’s a few that I always mention. Faith No More. Helmet. Clutch. And Prong.
Prong first hit my radar in the early 1990’s. I was in high school, and MTV still played music. A weekend staple was always Headbangers Ball, and it was through that show that Prong first hit my ears during the era of their 1991 Epic Records release Prove You Wrong.
The music was powerful, heavy, yet uncluttered. The bass groove was infectious, the drums precise, and the guitar and vocals of front man Tommy Victor was the icing on the cake. Being a sophomore in High School at the time, I had my dad take me down to the local “CD Exchange” in search of the band’s earliest works.
After months of searching, I’d been able to go back to the beginning.

NEW YORK -- MTV2 will resurrect one MTV cult favorite and retire another as part of new slate of programming beginning this spring. The MTV series Headbangers Ball will return to the airwaves May 10 with Metallica serving as guest hosts. The weekly showcase for heavy metal music aired Saturday nights on MTV from 1987-95. "We've been getting calls from fans demanding its return ever since," MTV2 general manager David Cohn said. "We brought it back because there's a lot of great hard-rock bands out now." Another longtime MTV staple, alternative-music showcase 120 Minutes, will disappear from MTV2 to make way for a new series, Subterranean, which focuses on up-and-coming independent bands. "120" had been on MTV since 1986 before moving on to MTV2 two years ago. Also new to the MTV2 lineup is Sucker Free Sundays, a hip-hop programming block that will air from noon-8 p.m. Sundays beginning May 11. Other new series include Track 2 and Nose Dive.
