If you think the script is bad, wait till you see Haßmann

"Ein Engel und Paul", which means "An Angel and Paul", or "Rendezvous mit einem Engel" is a German movie from 2002 (so soon 20 years old) that runs for 1.5 hours and the director is Stelzer and writer is Heinze. Now these two have already worked on many many films, not only for the small screen, and while a lot of it is not exactly great quality you will also find fairly prestigious projects in their bodies of work, but this one here really has to be among their very worst, perhaps even their very worst. The script is pretty weak there is no denying, but rarely have I seen a case where a lead actor/actress (yes both forms) manages to make an already bad script look even way worse. So Haßmann is not an actress in my opinion. Even very simple lines that required virtually no acting talent to deliver them she somehow managed to mess up. There is no denying that she is pretty attractive, also her body, and this means something coming from me because I generally prefer brunettes, but I genuinely doubt she ould have had a career or at least a career as a lead actress in films if it wasn't for her close connection with legendary German comedian Otoo Waalkes. Now him I cannot praise highly enough. Now I am drifting a bit away from the film here. But it does not really deserve too many words about it anyway I'd say because even without Haßmann making things worse, this was never a quality watch. The failure is closely connected to her. I mean you will recognize the specific scenes yourself if you want to watch it, which you really shouldn't, but the best example is basiclaly the moment in the rain when she says he is the only one who came to help her and that she loves him. And like I said this is just one of really many examples because Haßmann hits rock-bottom many times here. I also struggled with finding any characters likable in here and at least the two protagonists were supposed to be likable, but it just didn't work out honestly. Also the scenes with Naujoks' character, maybe the most famous actor here, tough to watch this crime-related story line. Like how he says on one occasion nobody is as good in tricking the old men out of their money as she is because she is so good with words or so and that's why he won't let her out of this scam. Oh well, that does not really say anything too positive about the other women working in that area. The ending was also not exactly a revelation although it must be said it was not among the film's weakest moments, but just because it was horrible throughout the movie and the ending was just weak maybe. So yeah they clearly totally relied on Haßmann's looks to carry the movie and that was obviously far from enough and to see how much they were going for it was also pretty cringeworthy, like there is her naked butt on one occasion even. I think you get the memo now. This is a film you should want to stay away from at any cost. Even for German afternoon television on a Tuesday it is way too bad and best would be if it vanishes into oblivion. Highly not recommended.
