We've already seen one teaser trailer for the creepy indie horror flick Oculus, but now we get a much better idea of the story with the full theatrical trailer. Tim (Brenton Thwaites) and Kaylie (Karen Gillan) had their lives changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents at a young age. Ten year later, Tim is released from protective custody and ready to move on with his life but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents' deaths were caused by a malevolent supernatural force from the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror from their childhood home. My last two columns in this series profiled the environmental docu-drama The Green Chain and Velcrow Ripper's personalised exploration of activism and spirituality, Fierce Light. Both of these films dealt with serious topics so this time around I thought I should lighten up. Don't get the idea that I'm going to be talking about the indie equivalent of Anne of Green Gables or Disney's Fantasia, though. Neither of the films profiled here are family-friendly and one is definitely not for viewers with weak stomachs.
