Hans Conried previously essayed the role he has here when the play became the basis for a TV series pilot, Love and the Big Leap/Love and the Good Deal/Love and the Former Marriage (1969), specifically, the segment "Love and the Good Deal."
The original Broadway production opened at the Biltmore Theater on October 23, 1963, ran for 1530 performances and was nominated for the 1964 Tony Award (New York City) for the Best Play. The original cast starred Robert Redford and Elizabeth Ashley.
Joan Crawford's daughter Christina played Corie in the national touring company of the play, with Myrna Loy as her mother.
