Women in the new Iranian theatre world.
A thoughtful and poetic look at women in the new Iranian Theatre world. German theatre force, Roberto Cuilli goes to Teheran to stage a production of "The House of Bernada Alba," by García Lorca, collaborating with the local talent; an all female cast and crew.
Will the play, a metaphor for women in traditional Iranian society make it through the censorship process at the Fajir festival? It is a tribute to the recent democratization process that it is shown and appreciated. The women in the film are anything but traditional.
We instead see strong actresses revealing their talent and ambitions, camaraderie and women in public cafes smoking hookahs. Interspersed with scenes of life in Teheran, it is surprising to finally see women here and realize that most are NOT under a burka. It is a privilege to share their rich intellectual and artistic lives. Well done.
