Pointless - nothing more than a pretty tourist film for coastal England
bob the moo31 May 2002
In a small fishing village in the UK something crawls out of the sea and hides in a cave. Later it transpires that the thing is the father of one of the fishermen. The man's mother helps dress the thing but the son is not keen to be reacquainted.

This feels like it's part of a folk story. It feels like a segment of a bigger story and this short made me feel that I was meant to know all the back story to be able to understand what was going on – or rather, what the point was of what was going on. The story is interesting but it has nothing interesting to say and nothing at all happens.

The cast are all fine and give good performances, but the story throws all that in the bin. With a decent story this good have been good – it looks good, has a good cast and good direction but it feels like it is a 5 minute scene from a 90 minute story.

Overall it has much to admire but the total lack of plot or narrative makes this a pointless little film – nothing more than a pretty tourist film for coastal England.
