A broadcast TV season that began with cobbled-together schedules during dual labor strikes is ending the way every season in the recent past has — with CBS as the most watched network.
With a few weeks left in the September-to-May season, CBS will end up as No. 1 in primetime for the 16th straight season. The network is averaging 5.59 million viewers each night, according to Nielsen’s seven-day figures (through April 21). That’s about 580,000 more than second-place NBC (5.01 million); ABC sits in third with 4.29 million viewers, and Fox averages 3.35 million. The CW is back of the pack among English-language broadcasters with 462,000 primetime viewers.
Those numbers may change a little in the remainder of the season, but the order of finish won’t. CBS is off by 6 percent in viewers versus the 2022-23 season, while NBC lost 5 percent year to year. ABC ticked up by about 4 percent — with a big assist from a...

Ryan Seacrest Not Top Pick For Wheel Of Fortune Fans
It made sense to have Ryan Seacrest come in and take over for Pat Sajak who had been hosting Wheel of Fortune since 1981. He has been hosting various shows for years. These include American Idol, his own radio show, and Live With Kelly. So, this was just a natural progression and he will start in September 2024. Vanna White has signed a contract to keep her turning letters through 2026 which will keep some familiarity for diehard fans. Of course,...

It came when the Top 8 competitors filmed, and some images were leaked. Fans of the show saw the competition on April 29 and Kaibrienne “Kb” Richins ended up eliminated.
Katy Perry’s Replacement Gets Discussed
If the famous judge hadn’t said she was leaving, then perhaps fans would be calling for her to go. They already did that over the years, but she seemed disinterested in the show, according to sources at the taping of the Top 8. There’s been a lot of talk about who might replace the judge.

With the Group B Finals just hours away (Fox, 8/7c), it’s time to make our final guesses about another one of The Masked Singer‘s secret celebrities. In fact, let’s make it a twofer this week.

The post-event TV lead-out is a delicate thing. Whenever major television telecasts – like, say, the Super Bowl, the Olympics, or the premiere or finale of a super-high-rated reality show – end, something has to come on afterward, and most shows chosen for the coveted slot take the responsibility very seriously. Lead-out programming usually catches hundreds of thousands if not millions of extra eyes since watch parties all over the country get caught up chatting or celebrating and fail to change the channel. Or, better yet, they get hooked on the first few minutes of whatever show's in front of them.

Katy Perry is leaving American Idol after this season. The hit reality singing competition series has had the same three judges since it returned to ABC, and this is the first change since its reboot. Ryan Seacrest, the host since the start on Fox, has recently talked about Katy leaving the series.
Here is what Ryan had to say and when he thinks American Idol will announce her replacement.
Ryan Seacrest On Katy Perry Leaving American Idol
Katy Perry shocked her fans and co-stars when she announced she was leaving American Idol at the end of this season. Luke Bryan said their contracts are year-to-year, so any judge can exit after any season since nothing locks them down for multiple seasons on the show. For Katy, it is time to depart the series.
This is because Katy Perry wants to release new music and tour the world performing concerts, with her daughter in tow.

The Voice fans agree that the long-running singing competition hasn’t quite been the same since Blake Shelton hung it up and decided to retire as a judge. According to a source close to Blake, he would consider coming out of retirement under two strict conditions. So, what are they?

Blake Shelton was part of the original lineup of The Voice judges when the show first premiered. It was NBC’s answer to American Idol, and they brought the star power to the judging panel. This is a trend that has continued in all of the seasons since.

Katy Perry via Instagram
Perry has been open about her battle with depression and mental illness in the past, and it was quite evident when she cut off her hair. Could the singer have gone bald again and just tried to cover it up with a wig?
Katy Perry Sports New Wig – Could This Mean She Shaved Her Head Again?
Katy Perry wore an all-black ensemble in her recent Instagram post, and in one video, she said:
“You guys have a lot of strong feelings about my haircut. Let’s see the energy for KP6, ‘cause this is just a wig.

With the May 31 Emmys eligibility cutoff almost exactly one month away, Emmys-related action is picking up.
On April 22, Ryan Seacrest, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan came out for a screening and reception in Hollywood on behalf of ABC’s American Idol. Meanwhile, in New York, Peter Morgan, creator and principal writer of Netflix’s The Crown, was feted at the opening of his new Broadway play Patriots. And that same night, FX’s Shōgun had a well-received series — or season? — finale. (The following evening its lead actress, Anna Sawai, sat down with yours truly at Chapman University to record an episode of THR’s Awards Chatter podcast.)
On April 24, Max toasted the third season of Hacks (which debuts on May 2) with a party at the Chateau Marmont attended by the show’s creators and stars, including Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder. And at the same time,...

After revealing behind the scenes details about how he helped bring an all-star group of musicians together to make the Grammy-winning smash hit charity single “We Are the World” in the Netflix documentary “The Greatest Night in Pop,” Lionel Richie recently spoke to IndieWire about which of the participants he knows have watched the movie, and are still reeling from the down-to-the-wire recording session.
“Huey Lewis sat next to me while I’m watching the premiere, and he leaned over to me, and he said, ‘I don’t think we’re going to make it,’” the “American Idol” judge said at an event celebrating the reveal of the current season’s Top 10 finalists. “I said, ‘Huey, it’s 39 years ago. (Read our minute-by-minute recap.) Ultimately, the “I Kissed a Girl” singer chose to keep McKenna in the ABC competition. That resulted in “Kb” being the latest person eliminated from “American Idol” — womp, womp.

To honor Mandisa’s life, Idol alum Colton Dixon, Melinda Doolittle, and Danny Gokey returned to the stage and performed “Shackles” by Mary Mary.
Mandisa sang “Shackles” as a contestant on American Idol, saying back in 2006 that the song meant a lot to her “because it’s a testimony that there’s nothing too hard for God.”
At the end of the performance, the trio shared some words about Mandisa.
“I’ve known her for over twenty years,” Doolittle said. “We started off singing background in sessions together. And then she got on Idol, and I cheered for her, and I came the next season, and she cheered for me. That is my girl through and through.”

American Idol judge Katy Perry recently slammed fellow judge Luke Bryan over his comments to a contestant. What did Bryan say that got under Katy’s skin?
American Idol: More Hopefuls Sent Home
As veteran American Idol fans know, no matter how much viewers love certain contestants, there can only be one winner when it’s all said and done. Unfortunately, that means, every week, more fan-favorites will be packing their bags and going home.
This is especially true as this season of American Idol is getting down to the nitty-gritty. In the most recent episode alone, more singers were cut from the competition. When it gets to this stage, the slightest mistake can be the difference between going home or sticking around. So, the margin for error is non-existent.

The Top 8 were revealed in a live two-hour broadcast of “American Idol” Sunday night. Host Ryan Seacrest called the Top 10 to the stage to perform on “Birth Year Night,” mentored by Shania Twain. In a poll conducted just after the episode, we asked, “Which contestant gave the best performance of the night?” Fifteen-year-old Triston Harper came out on top with his rendition of “She’s Country” by Jason Aldean. Watch his full performance above.
After his performance, Katy Perry thanked him for “being a student of this game.” Luke Bryan asked, “You trying to out-gyrate me?” Lionel questioned, “Did I just see the Triston strut?” They were eating this performance up and apparently so were viewers at home.
After thousands of votes were recorded, Triston ended up with 19% of the tally, followed by Will Moseley (“Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde”) with 16%, Abi Carter (“Clocks”) with 14% and Kaibrienne (“Here Without You...

[Warning: The below contains spoilers for American Idol.] The Top 10 took the stage during American Idol to perform songs from their birth year. To help them with this trip down memory lane was country superstar Shania Twain, who served as Sunday’s show mentor. Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan had a front-row seat as the singers aimed to secure a Top 8 slot based on America’s live voting. Breaking up the heat of competition was two homecomings. Idol champs Scotty McCreery and Just Sam stopped by to show the competitors what is possible with their careers. Scotty brought “Cab in a Solo,” and Just Sam took on Whitney Houston’s“One Moment in Time.” Since Just Sam won in 2020 during Covid and the at-home season, it was the first time they performed before a live Idol audience. A powerful moment indeed. Who did host Ryan Seacrest announce making it to the next round?...

Just Sam, the American Idol 2020 winner, returned for Season 22 to perform Whitney Houston’s “One Moment in Time.”
The singer went viral last year after revealing that despite winning Season 18 of the ABC competition, she had to return to performing in the NYC subways.
Just Sam won the singing show amid the Covid lockdowns and performed from home. Her return to the show allowed her to sing on the Idol stage and in front of the judges once again.

Host Ryan Seacrest tossed it to Katy Perry to say something to Just Sam, to which the pop star said, “I ain’t got notes.”
“But, what I will say is, you one hundred percent deserve that confetti,” Perry added.
