Mediocre Austrian comedy

"Brüder" or "Brothers" is an Austrian television film from 2002, so next year it will have its 15th anniversary. The director is Wolfgang Murnberger and he is mostly known for his film franchise starring Hader as Brenner. So if you know any of these, you know what to expect here. Of course, the crime component is entirely missing, but the comedy is sometimes very similar. Sadly, this movie here, which runs for slightly under 90 minutes, has no performances as good as Hader's. It is about three very different brothers who reunited when tragedy hits their family on more than one occasions. But all bad things also lead to something good, don't they? And in this case it would be the brothers reuniting. You need to decide for yourself if that is something good. It certainly was something good for the filmmaker as this film was successful enough to make several sequels followed. By now, it is not only three brothers, but also three movies. The last one is from 2006, so I am not sure if a fourth film will follow. Back to this one. I personally cannot say that I found it funny enough for almost 1.5 hours. There is an entertaining scene here and there, but the story and interactions just weren't good enough for me to let me recommend it. The humour is pretty dark sometimes, but I would still call it a family film overall. And maybe, because of the Austrian accents, you will also need subtitles, even if you are fluent in German. I give it a thumbs-down though. Not recommended and I have no interest in the next films.
