Interesting Filming
regnery8 February 2004
I saw this film in Berlin in 1991, when I lived there. It was interesting in that it was shot with several cameras mounted in a circle. Viewers stood in a circular room and the projector -- mounted from the ceiling -- displayed the film on all the walls. It was mainly helicopter scenes of Berlin, and so one one wall, you'd have a forward view, and on the opposite wall, there was the rear view from the helicopter. There were also some scenes from cars and from when the camera was mounted in a square or somewhere else. I had just moved to Berlin, and it was pretty interesting to see the city I was now living in, and I remember getting a little dizzy watching the film, because you'd constantly be turning around to see something that the helicopter passed. I later saw a similar film at Disneyland in California, so I guess this wasn't a unique way to film something, but it was the first one of these 360 degree films I had seen. The music was done by Tangerine Dream, and there was little dialogue in the film, it was mainly a helicopter video with Tangerine Dream music. A few months later, a friend came to Berlin to visit, and I took him to the theater to see this film, but it was already closed. And obviously, you can't buy this on video due to the strange nature of the filming.
