Sex & Nudity

  • After losing a race, one child prods another child to expose herself (however, she is stopped before anything is shown).

Violence & Gore

  • Towards the introduction of the film, there is a quick sequence in which a chicken corpse can be seen with a bloodied, slit throat.
  • A female child is slapped after refusing to comply with another child's demands.
  • There is a brief sequence in which a flattened snake's bloodied insides can be seen.
  • A child's bloodied fingers can be seen when he reaches for a bowl of water.
  • A child's cut and bloodied ankles can be seen when he steps out in the sunlight (the audience can see that this has been caused by shackles being attached to the child's ankles).
  • There are a few scenes in which the audience can hear a discussion involving the removal of a child's ears (by means of cutting).
  • A child is shoved to the ground after being being found in an undesirable place (in a consecutive scene, the audience can see that the child's nose is bleeding).

Profanity

  • Since the film is in the Italian language, there may very well be more references that can have a colloquially different meaning, so there may be instances in which not all profanity can be accounted for. However, from what the audience can see in the English subtitles, there are:
  • 11 instances of the use of the word "f*ck" (none of which are used with a sexual connotation); 4 instances of the use of the word "sh*t"; 5 instances of the use of the word "ass"; 2 instances of religious exclamations (including Christ); 3 instances of the use of the phrase "p*ss off"; 1 instance of the use the word "f*ggot", "b*tch", "cr*p", "d*mn", and pr*ck".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There are many scenes in which men can be seen smoking and drinking in a casual manner

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There are brief, dark (and possibly malnourished) images of a dirty child whose eyelids appear to be crusted over (however, the audience later learns that the child is just closing his eyes tight).
  • There is a sequence in which a man and women become involved in a loud, heated argument that visually upsets a child. The child then interferes and attempts to remove the man from the woman before many more men help the child by forcefully moving the man out of the room.
