Sex & Nudity

  • There's a scene in a bar where liquor is crudely poured in a woman's dress and a man is lifted upside down to try to drink it.
  • We see Johnny and a lady lying on a bed (apart) talking. She takes off her blouse and her back is shown. In the reflection of glass, we see her bare breasts. Nothing else happens.

Violence & Gore

  • A main character is involved in two boxing matches to earn money. Several punches are thrown. His mildly bloody eye is shown, he gets knocked out by his opponent and we see his resulting black eye.
  • During a horse race, another jockey repeatedly hits at Johnny with his riding crop. A rider is pushed off his ride to the track, while another hits Johnny. In turn, he punches that rider and more riding crop hitting occurs.

Profanity

  • At least 9 uses of "shit", 14 uses of "hell", 5 uses of "son of a bitch", 1 use of "bastard", 5 uses of "damn", 7 uses of "goddamn", 4 uses of "Jesus Christ", 1 use of "Christ sake".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • McGlaughlin, Charles and Marcela each smoke several times, Johnny smokes once and various miscellaneous people smoke in many scenes (cigarettes and cigars, including in a movie theater).

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • For those who don't like violence or potential violence against animals, the following is present: A man prepares to shoot an injured horse with a shotgun, but Tom stops him and the shooting doesn't occur. We see a bloody and injured bull during a bullfight. A rider uses a riding crop on a horse (hitting him with it). A vet says he can put down a horse with a ruptured ligament, but that never happens.

Violence & Gore

  • The horse that Johnny is riding gets spooked by a backfiring tractor. He and the horse topple over. With his foot stuck in the stirrup, Johnny is dragged behind the stampeding horse for several yards and ends up unconscious with his leg clearly out of position. We soon find out it is fractured.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • After the horse that Johnny is riding gets spooked by a backfiring tractor, Johnny is dragged behind the stampeding horse for several yards, severely injuring his leg. This is a high intesity moment within the last 35 minutes of the film.
