Fun

This is a fun cartoon. If you're a fan of the old Bob and Doug McKenzie sketches on SCTV or their movie Strange Brew you're sure to get a kick out of this, though it is much more for a younger audience as a cartoon here. Kids will enjoy it too. It's not as good but it's better than most cartoons.

What comes up... what comes down

These characters were originally created on the Canadian TV show SCTV, by Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas, who played them. in 1983 they brought the characters to the big screen in STRANGE BREW, and on the DVD a special feature was "the animated adventures of bob & Doug McKenzie". i checked it out and it suffered the same fate as "spaceballs the animated series" (i know i already talked about it) boring and unoriginal. it had Rick & Dave as Bob & Doug, now as sanitation engineers. their cousin Rupert is a cop, their "boss" is Dwight, they go to a "skate and Bowl", a bowl o Rama and a hockey rink all in one. their best friend is Dennis, a get rich quick artist. the whole thing is more like a cheap kids cartoon (like the mighty b) no wonder rick Moranis retired!

Saw the preview...

The preview from the Strangebrew DVD looks awesome. Bob and Doug in the modern 21st century Canada farting around. They apparently are Sanitary Engineers who interact with various characters in the neighborhood including a very attractive woman whose beefcake boyfriend doesn't deserve. The fumigation business is apparently booming in Canada.

They also have an active night life at the local ice rink. There is a preview of a couple of Ugly Canuck chicks all over them, but they aren't interested. They they show a small preview of the states, guns blazing, smoke billowing, women screaming. All too real for us here in the US.

Can't wait til we get to see it here in the states, eh!

Quite pathetic and unfunny

This animated short is included on the "Strange Brew" DVD. I expected something fairly funny and unique but instead I got a carbon copy rip-off of other lame Saturday morning kids' cartoon shows - I know it's only a pilot, but it didn't convince me in any way, shape or form that this has potential.

The film itself is very funny which is part of the reason I hold such disappointment for this. Apparently producers didn't think it was very good either, due to the fact that as of 2006 it still hasn't gone into production.

It is nice to see Rick Moranis emerging from his solitude to do the voices for his character, but other than that...this is rather sad and painfully unfunny.
