The rehearsals for this seasonal offering were held in a yacht club, just down the road from the actual studios.
After a number of rehearsals it was recorded in front of an invited audience at Teddington Studios on the 14th December, Editing was completed by the 19th, 5 days before it's Christmas Eve broadcast.
In the original draft Barbara Windsor was earmarked as Glory, Scrooge's cousin and Bernard Bresslaw would be Fagin leading Scrooge (Sid James) into a life of crime. Charles Hawtrey would have played Oliver Twist whose pocket Scrooge picks. Terry Scott would be a haughty school teacher and Barbara as a sexy pupil. Sreenwriter Talbot Rothwell removed a lot of the Dickensian material and replaced it with a Hammer horror pantomime featuring Peter Butterworth as Count Dracula and Bernard Bresslaw as the creature.
