The Nielsen tribe has spoken, and Survivor: Blood vs. Water‘s two-hour Sunday finale drew 10.2 million total viewers and a 2.6 demo rating — on par with last May’s Caramoan closer (10.2 mil/2.7) but down from a year ago’s Philippines finale (11.5 mil/3.2).
As for the reunion special, BvW did 7.7 mil/1.9 vs. Caramoan‘s 8.1 mil/2.2 and Philippines‘ 8.8 mil/2.3.
CBS’ numbers are subject to extra-change due to a NFL-related delay in some markets.

I may be behind the eight-ball here, but last month much blogging, Facebook and Tumblr posts and Twitter accounts were ablaze with comics artist Tess Fowler’s account of sexual harassment at the 2007 San Diego Comic Convention – a comics pro used the age-old pretense of being interested in her work to try and get her to come up to his room, and when Tess declined, he then went about insulting her work, her cosplay and talking bullshit about her to other male comics professionals and anybody else who would listen on the convention floor, i.e., in public.
Yeah, I know I’ve written about this subject before, and so has Heidi MacDonald over at The Beat, Colleen Doran on her own blog, former Dark Horse editor Rachel Edidin on her Tumblr site Postcards From Space, Jill Pantozzi at The Mary Sue, and Corrina Lawson on her site, Geek Mom.

Review Kylie Peters 30 Sep 2013 - 07:12
The magic and pixie dust is back on Sunday night TV. Kylie welcomes the return of Once Upon A Time...
This review contains spoilers.
3.1 The Heart of the Truest Believer
Once Upon a Time sails through the portal to Never Land and into its third season with all the intensity of Emma on a Momma Bear streak. Thrilling pacing and a fabulous collection of witty one-liners make up for chunks of cheesy sentimentality and a bit of drama-mongering in an overall satisfying opening that buzzes with momentum.
To be fair, it may just take some time to get reacquainted with Once’s Disney-fied approach to storytelling. It’s certainly a departure from Breaking Bad, Dexter, and other not-so-positive shows that have occupied geeks’ televisions since the end of Once’s last season. We just aren’t used to watching something where lines like “If you believe,...

Most of Disney’s classic animated films are fairly timeless, and that includes Peter Pan. Its celebration of childhood and imagination with a mostly ambiguous time period of London in the 1900s prevented it from ever being dated, and setting the bulk of the adventure in a land where no one ever ages and a band of children exchange wits with a sinister but goofy pirate meant it never felt specifically like the product of any one given era. It’s a bit puzzling then that Disney felt a new installment in the Peter Pan saga was necessary, or why they decided to root that installment, Peter Pan: Return to Never Land, in World War II, but at least the end product was every bit as gleeful and fancy free as the original. However, it’s not quite as creative or complicated. Instead it just feels like the same old...

Of all the characters introduced or highlighted for the first time during Once Upon a Time’s second season — including Captain Hook, Mulan, Princess Aurora, Lancelot, and even Dr. Victor Frankenstein — none is as pivotal to the show’s master plot as Neal Cassady, a.k.a. Rumpelstiltskin’s prodigal son Baelfire. Rumpel engineered the dark curse that created the town of Storybrooke purely so that he could find his long-lost child, meaning that Once itself wouldn’t exist if not for Bae. He spent a significant amount of time in Never Land, giving Once’s writers an opportunity to...

Peter Pan is not the first Disney movie that jumps to most people’s minds, but even among those who take issue with the film’s ending (like myself- and the New York Times… upon release) for not staying true to the original work, and thus somewhat negating the adventure, it’s a Disney classic that has a firm place within the Disney establishment. Whether it’s the classic ride at Disneyland, Tinkerbell’s inclusion in the Disney logo roll, the recent explosion in popularity of the new Tinkerbell movies and cute spins like Jake and the Never Land Pirates, or dozens of other treats, Peter Pan has touched much of the Disney world.

I love the art of animation, and it's amazing to see how far things have come and advanced over the years. The industry is changing in terms of technology, but what it all really comes down to is telling good stories. There's been a lot of great animated movies this year, and many of them are up for several awards at the 40th Annual Annie Awards.
Some of the movies nomainated include Brave, Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania, ParaNorman, Rise of the Guardians, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, and Wreck-It Ralph. Out of those films my favorite is a toss up between Wreck-It Ralph and ParaNorman, those were two pretty incredible films. I think ParaNorman has the edge though.
Some of the other animated properties nominated are Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1, Disney Tron: Uprising, Justice League: Doom, Robot Chicken ‘DC Comics Special', South Park ‘Raising the Bar’, and several others.

Blu-ray Release Date: Feb. 5, 2013
Price: Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo $39.99, Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo $44.99
Studio: Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
For its 60th anniversary, Disney’s movie adaptation of J.M. Barrie‘s classic children’s book adventure, Peter Pan, got a restoration for its high-definition Blu-ray debut.
The 1953 animated film tells the wonderful story about the Darling children — Wendy, John and Michael — who travel to Never Land with the boy who won’t grow up, Peter Pan. But in the fantasy land, they discover an ongoing war between the Lost Boys, Peter’s gang of runaways, and the evil pirate Captain Hook. But nothing can’t be fixed without some pixie dust from Tinker Bell.
The movie was directed by three men with plenty of classic animation pedigree: Lady and the Tramp‘s Clyde Geronimi, Cinderella‘s Wilfred Jackson and 101 Dalmatians‘ Hamilton Luske. And Peter Pan was executive produced by Walt Disney himself.

"The Hunger Games" helmer Gary Ross has finally locked down his next directing vehicle - "Peter And The Starcatchers" for Disney Pictures says Deadline.
The project is adaptation of the 2004 fantasy novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, which itself was recently turned into a multi-Tony winning musical. Jesse Wigutow is adapting the script with the studio currently waiting on a new draft to be delivered in October.
A prequel of a kind to J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan", the story follows a young Peter who befriends Molly, a shipmate he meets on the Never Land ship headed toward King Zarboff.
Molly tells Peter of a mysterious trunk filled with magical starstuff that must remain out of the hands of the pirate Black Stache (who will lose his hand and become Captain Hook). Peter and Molly lead an effort to recover the trunk.

With the success of The Hunger Games, director Gary Ross has had a long list of hopeful suitors knocking at his door. Since he officially passed on Catching Fire, the decision about his next project has been anxiously awaited. Well, we now we have that decision: Ross officially will be directing Peter And The Starcatchers.
Ross was rumored to be involved with the project about a month ago, and today The Film Stage confirmed that he would indeed helm the movie.
The film will be based off a 2004 novel published by Disney’s Hyperion and written by Dave Berry and Ridley Pierson. The book gives the back story of, you guessed it, Peter Pan. The novel has previously been adapted into a Broadway production that has been nominated for nine Tony awards.
This film sounds like it could end up being quite good, I mean who doesn’t love Peter Pan?...

Earlier this summer Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) pulled out of the running to direct The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and ended up talking to Disney about developing a project for them called Peter and the Starcatchers. According to Deadline, he's officially secured the directing gig and it will be his next film project. It looked like he would be directing a film for Summit Entertainment called The Secret Life of Houdini, but apparently he was tired of waiting around for the studio to make a deal, and he lost interest.
Peter and the Starcatchers is the first in a book series written Dave Barry and Ridley Pierson, that has already been adapted into a Tony Award-winning Broadway production. The script for the film is currently being written by Jesse Wigutow.

After kicking off The Hunger Games franchise with great success (the film ended up just shy of $700 million worldwide), director Gary Ross pretty much had his cream of the crop when it comes to a follow-up. With The Hunger Games: Catching Fire not on the list by his own choosing, he began to pile up a number of potentials and now we’ve got confirmation on what his next feature will be.
Deadline reports after looking at him early this summer, Disney has locked down the filmmaker to helm Peter and the Starcatchers, dropping the potential The Secret Life of Houdini at Summit Entertainment. Ross is simply waiting on the latest draft from Jesse Wigutow and once that is delivered in the fall, things would move forward. This would keep Ross in family friendly territory, but still something wildly different than he’s previously done.

It seems like Gary Ross might have found that different project he wanted to pursue that caused him to turn down a directing gig on "Catching Fire."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Hunger Games" director is in talks to trade in Panem for Neverland. He is reportedly negotiating to direct Disney's upcoming adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson's children's novel "Peter and the Starcatchers," which serves as a prequel of sorts to "Peter Pan."
Ross has never been a director to prefer helming children's stories over adult ones, so there must be something very special (or very profitable) drawing him towards "Peter and the Starcatchers." "The Hunger Games" must have been a good way to prep him for the story, though this Disney project likely won't be nearly as gritty and violent. Ross's previous two films, "Seabiscuit" and "Pleasantville," also aren't great examples of the tone required...

Looks like former “Hunger Games” director Gary Ross has found his new muse — Peter Pan. The director, who bowed out of directing the sequel because he didn’t feel as if he had enough time, has signed on to develop the book “Peter and the Starcatchers” as a directing vehicle for himself. “Starcatchers” is said to be a “prequel of sorts” for the Peter Pan stories. Based on the children’s novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, “Peter and the Starcatchers” centers around “a young Peter who befriends Molly, a shipmate he meets on the Never Land ship headed toward King Zarboff. Molly tells Peter of a mysterious trunk filled with magical starstuff that must remain out of the hands of the pirate Black Stache (who will lose his hand and become Captain Hook). Peter and Molly lead an effort to recover the trunk, which takes them on a treacherous journey.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Hunger Games" director Gary Ross is in negotiations to direct Walt Disney Pictures' film adaptation of "Peter and the Starcatchers," the Peter Pan prequel novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. The 2004 children's adventure book, which offers a backstory for J.M. Barrie's orphan boy who wouldn't grow up, was also adapted into a stage play with music that debuted at La Jolla Playhouse in 2009. After a successful Off-Broadway run in 2011, "Peter and the Starcatcher" moved to Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre in April 2012 and earned nine Tony Award nominations, winning five. The story follows Peter, a young orphan boy who befriends a girl named Molly on board the "Never Land" ship and sets off on an adventure with her to prevent a mysterious trunk filled with magical "starstuff" from falling into the hands of the evil pirate Black "Stache" – who will later...

Gary Ross ("The Hunger Games") is developing Disney's proposed "Peter and the Starcatchers" movie as a directing vehicle says The Hollywood Reporter.
The project is adaptation of the 2004 fantasy novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, which itself was recently turned into a multi-Tony winning musical. Jesse Wigutow is adapting the script.

It looks like Gary Ross has traded in Katniss Everdeen for Peter Pan. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director of The Hunger Games is in talks with Disney to venture to Never Land and bring the 2004 children’s adventure novel Peter and the Starcatchers to the big screen.
The story is a Peter Pan prequel that follows young Peter, who he meets a girl named Molly and goes on an adventure to keep a “trunk filled with magical starstuff” out of the hands of the evil Black Stache, a pirate who eventually loses his hand and becomes Captain Hook.

The Hunger Games director Gary Ross is in talks with Disney to develop their adaptation of the novel Peter and the Starcatchers. Dave Barry and Ridley Pierson wrote the book, that has already been made into a Tony Award-winning Broadway production. As you might expect, the novel is the first in a series, which means we'll most likely see a movie franchise if the first film does as well as the studio hopes.
The story is a Peter Pan origin, that follows "a young Peter who befriends Molly, a shipmate he meets on the Never Land ship headed towards King Zarboff. Molly tells Peter of a mysterious trunk filled with magical starstuff that must remain out of the hands of the pirate Black Stache (who will lose his hand and become Captain Hook). After exiting the battlefield that was The Hunger Games, Gary Ross may be swallowing some pixie dust for a live-action psuedo-prequel to Peter Pan. THR lets us know that the director is in talks with Disney to helm Peter and the Starcatchers. The studio recently hired newcomer Jesse Wigutow to adapt Dave Berry and Ridley Pierson’s 2004 novel, which gives the backstory to the iconic figure of Peter Pan. The Broadway adaptation of the novel has already been nominated for nine Tony Awards and winning five of them.
This attachment comes as no surprise, as Ross has been known to heavily switch up genres for his project, after helming Seabiscuit and Pleasantville. Considering he also succesffuly launched a franchise that will certainly bring in billions of dollars, one can bet he has his cream of the crop when it comes to what he wants to direct. Since deciding not to return to direct Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, Gary Ross has been lining up one or two alternative movies to consider as his next gig. He’s already got a Houdini project bubbling away, but The Hollywood Reporter brings word that he’s also negotiating to take on Peter And The Starcatchers for Disney.Jesse Wigutow is on board to write the script, which adapts Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s 2004 book. Starcatchers is a sort of Peter Pan prequel, which finds a young Pete befriending a girl named Molly while on board a Never Land ship. Everyone knows the story of Peter Pan, a boy who could fly, crossed swords with the dangerous swashbuckler Captain Hook and refused to grow up. But ever wonder how Peter got to Never Land? J.M. Barrie, who created the character, certainly had his own ideas, but humorist Dave Barry and suspense novelist Ridley Pearson offered their own explanation with the 2004 children's novel Peter and the Starcatchers. In this bestseller, they suggest that before there was Peter and Wendy there were Peter and Molly, going on a pirate ship adventure to uncover the magic behind "starstuff." Since it's release Peter and the Starcatchers has spawned a Disney-owned book series as well as a Broadway play. Now in the wake of the lively stage show scoring an incredible nine Tony nods.making it the most Tony-nominated production currently on Broadway.Disney has begun development on a movie adaptation. The Warrior director is off to Never Never Land for the Sony picture originally titled Pan, which has Channing Tatum attached to play the lead. Details are sparse on the script that was written by Billy Ray, who will be enjoying the release of The Hunger Games next week, which he co-wrote. Elsewhere in Never Land, the indie film Pan (scheduled for a 2012 release) actually flipped the script on the magical boy: Aaron Eckhart will play Hook, a retired detective, who chases after Peter — a childlike kidnapper. Can your childhood handle that reimagination?...

I sat smack bang in the middle of Hook’s major target demographic when it was released in 1991. I was an innocent child, five years old to be specific, and I admit to falling hook, line and sinker for its hugely budgeted adventure sensibilities. Jump forward twenty years to Hook’s recent budget Blu-ray renovation; does it still hold the same charm to the cynical, bill-addled mind of a disenfranchised twenty-something?
Directed by movie goliath Steven Spielberg, Hook isn’t quite a sequel to J.M Barrie’s eponymous stage-play Peter Pan but it’s not exactly a remake either. It’s something of an extended re-imagining that takes certain narrative liberties with the original characters; giving them lives beyond the ending of the original story. Maybe you like Peter Pan, maybe you never have but this is inarguably an interesting premise that lends credence to...

Hollywoodnews.com: The Disney Channel’s animated series “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” which runs daily on Disney Junior, is a clever way to extend the studio’s “Peter Pan” brand.
It features three young pirate adventurers – Jake, Izzy and Cubby – as they seek out treasure and take on Pan’s rivals, Capt. Hook and Mr. Smee. My three-year-old adores it, and he hadn’t yet seen “Pan,” so this was a great way to introduce him to the world of Peter and his lost boys.
And now it sounds like the show’s getting a new, recurring character voiced by … Josh Duhamel?

Time after tedious time, when critics suffer an aridity of fresh, inventive phrases with which to denigrate a film, play or book, they fall back on "soap opera"; it has become the classic cliché of derogation.
But the critic cannot be singly criticized when his attitude is shared by a good part of the television industry itself. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, for example, did not simply fail to give an Emmy to any soap opera: by having no award category for them, it failed to recognize their existence.
Of course, after viewing the recent fiasco of the Emmy awards, it may well be considered a mark of distinction to have been ignored by this group.

With the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides shortly upon us I decided to take a look at other Hollywood movies that have involved pirates throughout the years. Here are some of my favourites:
The Goonies (1985) – The Goonies tells the tale of a group of young teens who are desperate to find a way to prevent their homes from being gobbled up by an obnoxious local developer in order to build a golf course on the site. When the kids discover an apparently authentic treasure map, the solution to their desperate situation appears to be in their hands.
Hook (1991) – The basic story is that the original Peter Pan (Williams) has grown up to be a cut-throat merger and acquisitions lawyer, and is married to Wendy’s granddaughter. Captain Hook (Hoffman) kidnaps Peter’s children, forcing Peter to return to Never Land with Tinkerbell (Roberts). With the help...

According to Disney chief Bog Iger Disney is looking to bring a new Peter Pan prequel movie to the big screen called Peter and the Starcatchers, based on a best-selling novel written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Iger said, "We considered making [it] a movie. We haven't made a decision on that yet.”
Here's a description/review of the story and book from Amazon:
Humorist Dave Barry and suspense writer Ridley Pearson have clearly taken great delight in writing a 400-plus page prequel of sorts to Scottish dramatist J.M. Barrie's beloved Peter Pan stories. The result is a fast-paced and fluffy pirate adventure, complete with talking porpoises, stinky rogues, possible cannibals, a flying crocodile, biting mermaids, and a much-sought-after trunk full of magical glowing green "starstuff." Ever hear of Zeus? Michelangelo? Attila the Hun? According to 14-year-old Molly Aster they all derived their powers from starstuff that occasionally falls to Earth from the heavens.
