Mboutoukou is a thriller and I was particularly moved when I watched and shared the film with others. It brings joy to me especially given that the film was shot in Cameroon.Though a short film,it's 'great' in one word, and I must say that both cast and crew put in their best. It's beautiful and lovely!!

A great journey

Warning: Spoilers
The movie to me is a journey. I am taken back home to Africa. To country life and to a time when the distant sounds of quacking chickens perfectly captures the tranquility of a dry season afternoon. The subject matter is one that few would think of as interesting at first glance but it is so beautifully explored that one can't help but cheer the emergence of bugs at the end.

It is a journey for the older brother who not only has to travel a long way to boarding school but, through their attempts to hunt termites, he learns from his little brother the true power of persistence.

Most of all it is a journey for Napo who overcomes numerous obstacles to prove that he is deserving of respect from his family and that he is more than ready to assume the cap as the new man of the house.

It is a short that packs so many elements into its brief, sure quarter hour that I highly recommend you watch if you are so opportuned.

Brilliant

Gentle, subtle, elegant. And deep. You might need more than a couple of viewings to appreciate the multiple layers in this simple story of a boy trying to prove himself. Watch it. See yourself. We are one.

The movie is not about bugs though there are termites in it. It is not about Africa, though it is set in Africa. But it is about family and it is about brotherhood and it is about manhood. In this tale of a young boy who sets out to prove himself, we learn that we are who we are and if we are determined we can succeed at what we set our minds to do. We can be great at something even if it is not the norm. We also learn that sometimes success isn't everything and this is one lesson which is so well executed, and subtly examined that you might not get with one viewing.

The movie is excellent, creative, and different.

I found Mboutoukou refreshing to watch. It is an excellent creative piece of work that is not only different, but educational. I enjoyed the simple lifestyles of the people portrayed in the movie, people for whom termites are a delicacy and termite hunting a test of manhood. I appreciate the movie and the artistic courage it must have taken to make the movie.
