Absolutely hilarious.
Latheman-930 December 2004
Chris Marker's "La Jetée" (1962) was my selection for all-time favorite film when I registered with the IMDb, and it still is. I have both versions (French & English language voice overs) in a total of three forms. When Terry Gilliam's "Twelve Monkeys" (1995) first came out, I disliked it intensely as a bad knockoff but have since come to accept it as the homage to Marker's film that Gilliam intended his work to be. With all that as preamble, I now write that no fan of the original masterpiece should be without Timothy Greenberg's fondly satiric takeoff, "La Puppe." It is funny enough to make me double over with laughter. Beginning with the same choral music that began "La Jetée" and using an English voice over with a faux French accent, this nine minute gem captures the essence of Marker's work in a manner that is both irreverent and admiring. The lead character is played by a stuffed toy dog and his mysterious love interest from the past is (ready?) ... a golden retriever. Enough said, it's not to be missed. It is available in both VHS and DVD-R; just do a web search with the title as the search string. Rating: 9/10.

Excellent short film

I saw this film at 4:00 am. It was so cute and hilarious. The director made the puppy seem so real and cute. The movement of the puppy and how it is filmed is so real. The film is narrated in a french accent like that of inspector Clusoe of the pink panther. It is in black and white. The film is done in slide show format. The mood of the film is fun for the most part. (watching the puppy jump over the fence, when an easier route was available) The film had a web site at the end, but I could not find it. If you ever watched the episode of the Simpson's where Barney does a movie about his life of the show The scholar where the students had to make a film, this would be what you should expect from Le puppe. The film should be made more readily available via internet.

I am going to buy it.

The funniest 10 minutes I can remember

I laughed, I cried, I almost peed my pants. A must see!

It's basically a black-and-white slide show with a voice-over... but somehow it impressed me more than all of the high budget special effects films that have come out lately. The little stuffed dog gives an INCREDIBLE acting performance.

I would never have thought I'd want to buy a DVD of a ten-minute movie, but I just bought this one after seeing the short film on cable TV. I guess I liked this movie a lot more than 12 Monkeys, because I just spent fourteen dollars to buy a 10-minute movie, and I wouldn't pay $1.40 per minute for 12 Monkeys!

For those who know and like "La Jetée"

One of the more interesting pieces of short film was the French "La Jetée" of 1962, directed by Chris Marker. What's ironic about it is that it is not in the least bit flashy, or even uses moving images. It is a slideshow of black-and-white photographs with a narrator helping describe the story in these photographs.

"La Puppe" is a parody of "La Jetée." It takes the same type of story, uses the same method of film-making, but there's one big difference: the main character is a basset hound.

Yep. They use the basset hound Beanie Buddy (the larger version of Beanie Babies) to convey each scene that appeared in "La Jetée." For those in the know, it's wickedly funny.
