Sad Tragedy
humanitieskollam25 December 2023
'Bewafa' will make you cry. The female character Roopa (Nargis) makes you imagine of a girl who don't know the accurate path but thinks herself as she is doing right due to her her blind trust on everyone. The problems with misunderstanding a person is another element in the story. Ashok Babu (Ashok Kumar) is portrayed as a guide for Roopa to begin and end her good life. Raj (Raj Kapoor) may confuse you till the mid-half unless the three gangsters enter the scene and make you realise the reality. The paintings displayed in this movie have relevance until the climax which makes art work an essential ingredient in the story.

This movie was short when compared to other films of the lead actors. It should have been little more extended because this short film confines Ashok Kumar's role to a mere advisor and a secret lover. Some dream songs of Ashok Kumar was a must that would have shown his love more openly rather than alloting majority of songs to Raj which of course will not make you feel emotional (while listening to songs) if you have watched it. Instead of showing Ashok as only a silent artist, he should also have been shown as a singer so that the songs could be made more romantic.

A watchable film

Warning: Spoilers
This little known film stars Ashok Kumar, Nargis and Raj Kapoor. The plot plays out like a love triangle with Ashok(Ashok Kumar) loving Roopa(Nargis) who in turns loves Raj(Raj Kapoor).

This film does not obviously match to standards of finer Raj Kapoor's films like the earlier Awaara or the later Shree 420. In typical style, the plot moves slowly but definitely to an unexpected climax. The songs are listenable to, maybe once. Where the film shines is its characterization and the acting by the lead actors. Ashok Kumar is restrained and provides contrast to Raj's mannerisms.

All summed up, this film isn't a must watch but Raj Kapoor's fans won't be disappointed by it.
