Today’s short is the 2001 film The Girls Guitar Club. The short is written by Mary Lynn Rajskub and Karen Kilgariff, both of whom also star in the film, and is directed by Ruben Fleischer. The short also features Nick Swardson in a supporting role. Fleischer broke out in 2009 with his horror comedy Zombieland, and his latest directorial feature, Gangster Squad, was released in theatres this weekend. Nick Swardson also plays a supporting role in the horror movie spoof A Haunted House, which also was released in theatres this weekend.

Ruben Fleischer is on a roll right now, with his third feature in four years hitting theaters (a bit delayed) this Friday. Before Gangster Squad, he directed the dark comedies Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less, and long before that he made his first film, a short from 2001 titled The Girls Guitar Club. Producing and directing off a script from the comedy duo of Karen Kilgariff and Mary Lynn Rajskub (both of whom were then perhaps best known for Mr. Show), Fleischer thought it would be his calling card for jumping into Hollywood. “I basically spent all the money I had saved and was sure that movie deal offers were gonna come and I’d be directing pilots [for] television shows,” he told Collider back in 2009. “And as soon as people saw the short film, but of course people thought and said, ‘Oh that’s good,’ and [then] nothing ever really came of it.” Perhaps...

The guy’s only other directorial credit is “The Girls Guitar Club” and something called “Gumball 3000: 6 Days in May”, for God’s sake. Plus, I’ve just learned to temper [...]...

“Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer has declared shooting on his horror-comedy “Zombieland” finished, and was nice enough to slap some set pics featuring famous L.A. landmarks overrun the by the film’s zombie apocalypse on his official site. Nothing mind-blowing, but today is shaping up to be a very lame Monday for cool movie news, so here you go. “Zombieland” set pics featuring, well, sets, and stuff. I would have liked to see some pics with stars Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Amber Heard and Mila Kunis, but whatever. In a world overrun by zombies, a guy described as “the most frightened person on Earth” looks to find refuge a band of people to safety. Starring Mila Kunis, Jesse Eisenberg, Amber Heard, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Abigail Breslin, Chick Bernhardt, and Rosie Bernhard. Ruben Fleischer (”The Girls Guitar Club”) directs.
