I saw "Sinful Deeds" for the first time last night, and let's just say I was underwhelmed. The sex scenes weren't that great, the women were just okay-looking, and the story was....well, I'll get to that in a moment.
We begin with Julie Baxter (Syren), an exotic dancer at a seedy club where a couple of her co-workers, including her best friend, disappear under mysterious circumstances. She takes it upon herself to get down to the bottom of it, against the will of the club owner. Her boyfriend just wishes she'd stop dancing and think about their future together (awww!).
Eventually, as the movie progresses, we find out that a serial killer had been killing dancers at the club, and he's targeted Julie as his next victim. Will Julie survive the wrath of the killer coming for her?
Spoilers coming:
In a word, yes.
In the meantime, we get treated to various stripteases by the dancers and a few sex scenes, none of any high quality, just of the "going-through-the-motions" variety. I'm not saying Syren isn't a good looking girl--she is--she just can't act that well. Of course, I'm cutting her a little slack since she's a hardcore porn star by trade, but if she's going to recite her dialogue like she's reading lines from a cue card (and occasionally in a methodical, robotic tone), she really shouldn't be doing softcore. At least the casting directors have figured out how to cast hardcore star Angelica Sin, as this is the fourth softcore movie I've seen her in where she plays a dancer. In short, I thought this flick had very few good points, and not enough sex scenes to hold my interest. Not tapeworthy at all.
Women: B- (Like I said, Syren is very pretty. Angelica Sin doesn't look that bad either. Adajja and Isabella are cute as well. However, since there wasn't a great deal of sex, it actually lowered this grade a bit too.)
Sex: D (If this grade was for nudity alone, the grade would be much higher, but nudity by itself isn't enough for a softcore flick--there needs to be sex as well, and the sex scenes were a bit lower than average. Since most of the action took place at a strip club, I was expecting plenty of nudity, but the sex was lacking. The scenes were on the short side, too.)
Story: D- (The story plodded along in the background as we saw scene after scene of stripping. Where's the sex at? Too much of the dialogue sounded like someone was just off-camera holding up cue cards, and the actors were simply reading off them. Very few signs of emotion. "House Of Love" showed me that even softcore flicks can have some passionate displays of emotion.)
Overall: D- (If the women in this film didn't look good at all, I probably would have given this film an F, but since it's Syren and Angelica Sin giving workmanlike performances instead of a couple of unattractive women, I bumped the grade up to a D-. Not very high, but what do you expect for drivel like this? I expected better from a film produced by MRG Entertainment, usually a good source for quality softcore flicks. "Sinful Deeds" gets a D-, primarily for casting decent looking women and not doing much else.)
