Treachery
boblipton19 November 2016
Broncho Billy Anderson joins up with a tiny bunch of miners. Soon, he is doing well with Vedah Bertram. Brinsley Shaw, who also fancies Miss Bertram, decides to take matters into his own hands.

This movie is a remake of the previous year's THE ROMANCE ON BAR O -- more than seventy shorts came between, so it's not like he was going to the well too often. It is well acted and very nicely put together, running the gamut from pleasant, mild comedy to some real moments of worry, topped off with the usual impeccable camera work of the unit. The movie has recently been restored by the BFI and, even though there are a few moments when the print is less than perfect, it's still a good film to show to those unfamiliar with this sort of movie -- or those who know them well and love them.

Broncho Billy romances are fresh, or at least give the impression of being so
deickemeyer14 December 2016
That so many of these Broncho Billy romances are fresh, or at least give the impression of being so, is due perhaps more to the development of the situation, the human freshness in little things, rather than to intricately made, unusual plots. In outline, this typical Broncho Billy love story is not new; but the picture, as a whole, seems new. There are many insignificant things in it that we have never seen before, and they keep pleasing all through the film. We wonder whether the conventional ending is necessary. To the reviewer, who has seen it and sees it every day, it seems very flat. Almost every romance has, in our opinion, just sixteen feet of flat ending. - The Moving Picture World, July 20, 1912
