Sex & Nudity

  • The only nudity in this movie is when the counselor is helping his ailing wife out of the bathtub. It shows a full back view while he is wrapping a towel around her. Sex is very freely discussed by the workers after hours in the pub in some detail, but there is nothing expressed physically other than an attempted assault and some fairly mild kisses.

Violence & Gore

Profanity

  • There is a lot of profanity in this movie and taking God's name in vain. It is intended to portray the personalities of the people working in the fish processing and shipping industry in Fleetwood.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Many scenes take place in a pub where there is plenty of drinking done and discussed. The main character smokes and talks about taking drugs because they were cheaper than drinking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • An attempted rape of the main character Kath is foiled when she pretends to cooperate, then bites the man's ear. At the end of the movie her face is pushed into a window before they show her drowning, going down with what looks like an anchor chain. She is also approached in a threatening way by the security camera operator and runs away. Twice she asks about what happens to bodies in the sea and is answered pretty graphically in one.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The whole movie is pretty intense since it deals with a woman searching to find out how her sister has disappeared. I would not reccommend it for children. She becomes obsessed with finding out how it happened. There are spooky scenes where she thinks she has found her sister, but never catches up with her. One frightening look is of a boatman with white contacts over his whole eye to indicate blindness. Once a man follows her to her door whispering through it that he knows she is there and asking to be let in. She is shaking with fear as she tries to phone for help. When she confronts the murderer in the end of the movie he is pushing her face into a window and telling her she should have left the whole incident alone.
