  • A drawing of a partially naked woman is seen. View of breasts of genitalia is covered up.
  • A boy and girl head out to a cornfield late at night for implied sexual activity, but are interrupted quickly.

  • A man mops up a mess of mud and blood from his bathroom floor.
  • A man is badly beaten by a boy with a baseball bat. We see the man later bloodied and bruised, hardly able to walk.
  • The victims of a murderer are seen in the places where he dumped their bodies. Some of the bodies are partially buried, while others are clearly seen (no blood or injuries). This sequence is not in the real world. Not graphic.
  • A man breaks a hole in a neighbour's door.
  • A man violently destroys several glass bottles with ships inside that he had made previously. Giant representations of these bottles violently crash into a shoreline in the purgatory world.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A woman is seen repeatedly drinking alcohol and smoking. There are several references to her taking pills, one scene shows her doing so while drinking alcohol. She tells a young child that she takes pills every day. It is not disclosed whether these are prescription or not.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This movie may be triggering to sexual assault survivors.
  • Despite being not gory and not very violent, the films is very upsetting and horrifying in it's nature
  • The entire movie is about a 14 year old girl watching from purgatory as her parents and the police try to find her murderer. Some scenes may be emotionally intense.
  • A young boy (about 4 years old) swallows a twig and nearly dies early in the movie. He survives, but the viewers see his lips turn purple as he lies motionless, unable to breathe. However his older sister saves his life by driving him to the hospital
  • We see several crime pictures of dead people that were all killed by the same man. Neither blood nor wounds are visible on the victims.
  • It is implied that a murderer lures someone into a hole underground where he kills people. We do not see this happen.
  • Susie's parents are distraught when they learn that their daughter was most likely murdered. They are seen crying uncontrollably in some scenes.

Sex & Nudity

  • As per book narrative, the main antagonist is a child molester/rapist.
  • It is heavily implied that a man has raped 14 year old girl and other women (few women and some girls).

Violence & Gore

  • We see what is implied to be Susie's body in a blood covered bag. Mr. Harvey puts it in a metal safe. This can be quite disturbing for some.
  • Susie is murdered offscreen. We see her fighting off her killer until he stabs her offscreen. Nothing really graphic throughout this scene.
  • A girl falls out of her upstairs window. (She survives this with minor bruises.)
  • A man dies from falling into a ravine. We see his head snap back and body fall on ledges on its way down. Minor bruising and injuries visible. We see his contorted body on the ground

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Susie's father has an emotional breakdown when he see's his daughter through his window. (She is a ghost) We see him chasing after her but she disappears.
  • Susie possesses Ruth for about a minute before Ruth becomes herself again. This scene can be considered creepy for some viewers.
